I attended Philanthro's most recent event, Stupid Cupid: the silent date auction. After interacting with a few volunteers, I was drawn to the organization. Learning more about it, I found it to be such a successfully organized, well-oiled machine. The volunteers make sure to have fun while doing their work, and due to them serving on a volunteer-basis, they are willfully sacrificing time and efforts for this organization.

To be honest, I was a little intimidated and surprised by everyone's dedication to the organization, but for me, that was a green flag. If the volunteers truly love their work and don't mind their sacrifice, then Philanthro must be doing something right.

Right now, I'm in the process of learning more about Philanthro in hope of becoming a volunteer!

I was first introduced to Philanthro via the San Francisco Chapter and immediately thought their ideas on how to introduce and connect young adults with philanthropy was ingenious. I just knew it could work in Seattle as well. It wasn't long after that when I received a message from the former co-President of the SF Chapter informing me that a Seattle Chapter was in the works. I jumped at the chance to become involved with this group of motivated and intelligent individuals with the hopes of helping out the local community and its non-profit organizations through volunteering and events. I also enjoy the transparency of Philanthro and most importantly, the creativity and ability to cultivate and nurture new ways to connect to our audience. I know where Philanthro stood when started out on this venture, and I am excited to see where we take it, as one.

I work for a private foundation and have been a philanthropy professional for more than 8 years. I learned of Philanthro through a friend who sent me a Facebook invitation to one of the events. I attended Philanthro's events and was completely blown away by the quality, the organization, the awareness they raised for the charity, and the energy. I looked for a friend connection on Facebook to learn more about Philanthro. After learning more, I just had to join and be a part of the Philanthro movement. Philanthro re-energized me on the power and possibilities of philanthropy.

Philanthro is creating the template for the future of philanthropy. It's not just writing a check or attending an event. Philanthro creates a connection platform for young professionals to meet each other and give back to to the community by using their talents, networks, and energy.

Being a part of Philanthro has allowed me to fulfill my desire to inspire others to make philanthropy a part of their lives. Coming together with a group of 20 likeminded young professionals every week and working on building a platform to help non profits connect with young professionals has given me a renewed sense of purpose and helped me grow as an individual.

Everything from volunteering directly with non-profits to planning how to best reach out and encourage others to join us has been an amazing experience.

I was always involved in volunteering one way or another as a youth, in high school groups or in church groups. As an adult in a busy world of work and life, volunteering has fallen down on my list. Then Philanthro came along and now I see myself trying to better myself and the world around me in nearly everything I do! Philanthro, thanks so much for the inspiration to live a better life and to encourage so many other young professionals to get active in their communities again!

I've always known that there are those less fortunate than me out there. I've always wanted to make a difference some day. I've always seemed to find ways to put off that someday. And I believe that many of my peers out there can identify with those statements.

Being a young professional, I was once guilty of wanting to contribute to positive changes in my community but never acting on it. Being involved with Philanthro Seattle has been the first real, tangible step I've taken in giving back to the world around me. Ultimately, this in itself reflects back on Philanthro's culture of doing, not talking.

And we do a lot. As a 100% volunteer based organization, officers and staff spend 10+ additional hours a week (on top of jobs, relationships etc) to put together events that bring awareness to causes, profit for charities, and excitement and inspiration towards living a philanthropic lifestyle.

Philanthro has filled that void in my life that left me feeling a bit unfulfilled. This organization has provided me with an opportunity to not only engage my community, but to do it with talented friends and peers who share similar beliefs. It has been an amazing journey so far and I have nothing but high hopes and expectations that great things will come out of this relationship. Young professionals alike could all use a little nudge, and I believe that Philanthro can be that force.

Philanthro has played a major role in my growth as a philanthropist, entrepreneur and holistically as a leader. By volunteering my time, I've been blessed with the opportunity of meeting and learning from some of the most inspiring and hard-working people I've ever encountered. It has exposed me to amazing, quality nonprofits from all over the world--local and national. And through this great organization, it has given me the desire to be an example of what a leader is despite my age and/or experience.

On top of the 9-5 and other various organizations and groups we're a part of, Philanthro members still find the time to be proactive and involved in what's going on in our respective cites' communities. There is not a single person in Philanthro who is paid for their services. And though at times it may seem overwhelming with all the emails we have to reply to, all the meetings we have to attend, all the events we have to plan, etc...one thing remains the same--the passion.

The passion we all exude is evident throughout Philanthro. With any job or anything one invests their time in, there will be challenges we must face and at times, discouragement. Yet we strive to do all that is necessary to overcome and grow from these challenges and to be wiser and stronger as an organization and as an individual. I don't know what we'd do without this passion and desire to grow this organization from its humble beginnings into what it is today.

Sir Ken Robinson of TED once said, "I meet all kinds of people who don't enjoy what they do. They simply go through their lives getting on with it. They get no great pleasure from what they do. They endure it rather enjoy it and wait for the weekend. But I also meet people who love what they do and couldn't imagine doing anything else. If you said to them don't do this anymore, they'd wonder what you're talking about. Because it isn't what they do, it's who they are. They say but this is me, you know, it would be foolish of me to abandon this, because it speaks to my most authentic self."

I'm excited to see what will become of this organizations in years to come. This collaborative group spanning from across the country has given me so much more than I have ever expected. My wish now is to share my story and experience with others and to make Philanthro grow and through that...ourselves.

Philanthro Seattle has been around for less than three months and have already been spread widely within our networks. People who haven't been to our events have already heard about us and are asking for more information on our upcoming events. Within a week, the attendance list of our upcoming volunteer event rose from 5 to 30 and is still growing. Please help our organization grow because this community needs it!

I attended their Pencils of Promise - POP event and was amazed! We had lots of fun with the music and dancing and great people. They also had a way of raising awareness for building schools for children. It was a great way to meet friendly people and understand how other communities are also helping out thru non profit organizations.

I wanted to get involved in something outside of medschool, meet new people, learn about marketing, and volunteer in a way that leveraged my skills. Philanthro was an amazing fit for what I was looking for!

To me, the leveraging of talent is the most incredible thing about Philanthro. In high school I used to go on "food drives" and collect cans from neighbors and in front of supermarkets. While I was doing a good thing, I was not using my education or talents. Also, collecting canned food was a finite solution to a problem and one measured only in the number of food-items I was able to solicit; at the end of the day, when the food was delivered and distributed, that was as far as my good-deed went. With Philanthro, I am able to give-back in a way that makes use of my knowledge and skills to touch thousands of people. While anyone can collect cans, not everyone can market and publicize in the way that we do and few can get young professionals out to "charity" events as Philanthro does. AND the return-on-investment for each hour I spend is enormous; every hour I spend means an exponential number of $$$ going to charity and raises awareness for issues that I care about.

Philanthro is a bright-spot in my life and one that gets me through my workday. All of us in Philanthro have jobs, and none of us gets paid. It's completely volunteer. I look forward to working with my Philanthro teammates to build something more than i can do alone.

I have been looking for an avenue to create the greatest positive affect in my community. And this organization develops opportunities to leverage the leadership of young professionals in a way to compound positive value in my community.

I have been a volunteer for only a few months at our newest chapter in Seattle. And we have already engaged over 80+ young professionals in volunteering at the Ronald McDonald House, Foster Care at the Y of Seattle, and Blood Drive initiative to donate 106 pints of blood by the end of the year.

Not only is our buzz attracting more individuals to our organization but it is also inspiring other young professionals in our community to develop their own independent philanthropic lifestyle.

Philanthro has introduced me to new and various non-profits, both locally and globally. By volunteering with such an amazing organization, I have met some of the most inspiring people and I have been able to hone my communications and strategic skills. In addition, Philanthro has helped me in my professional life by allowing me to create my own legacy and apply new skills toward a new career.

Philanthro has been amazing experience for me on so many levels. I helped start this organization as a very non-community involvment person, but have since developed into a leader and driver of change for our organization.

When I leave Philanthro, I will take from it many things - the idea that you CAN in fact make tangible difference, a network of life-long friends and professional contacts, and a lot of skill-sets that you simply cannot develop in any other type of atmosphere.

I ask everybody who volunteers for Philanthro, leads one of our teams, attends one of our events, or receives services/financial contribution from Philanthro to "think beyond" what you know about Gen-Y's desire to give back. Philanthro represents a whole generation and the way that we try to engage people can and does work. We have a long way to go, but we are making it happen and will continue to strive for tangible effect on problems, big and small.

Philanthro has played a major role in my growth as a professional, an entrepreneur, and as a philanthropist. As we put more energy into Philanthro we grow the awareness of our pears about great non profits in our area making an impact on the world. Every young professional needs to hear Philanthro's message. Our goal is to inspire our peers and facilitate them becoming philanthropists.
