Mission: YouthBuild Philadelphia Charter School provides out-of-school youth in Philadelphia the broadest range of tools, supports and opportunities available to become self-sufficient, responsible and productive citizens. Our one-year program gives high school dropouts a second chance to earn their diplomas while developing vital job skills through rigorous academics, vocational training and community service.
Results: - More than 1500 young adults have completed the program since 1992 - Every student contributes at least 675 hours of community service each year. Our students have: *Rehabilitated more than 70 houses for low-income families and first-time homebuyers *Refurbished and donated more than 2,500 computers for community organizations and schools *Provided more than 4,000 hours of care to long-term residents of nursing homes - The last three years boast a 78% completion rate and 85% graduation rate -Our graduates have consistently moved on to successful lives; statistics for the 2008 graduating class now show that: *32% are enrolled in college on a full- or part-time basis *42% are employed full-time *2% are in job training programs
