Causes: Sports, Winter Sports
Mission: The mission of Philadelphia Flying Phoenix Dragon Boat Association is to foster national and international amateur sports competition by recruiting women into paddling sports through regularly scheduled supervised training and competitions both inside and outside the United States.
Target demographics: PFP Team targets adult women of all ages. Against the Wind Crew targets Breast Cancer Survivors. Survivors in Sync Progam targets BreastCancer Survivors. Healthy Dragons League targets middle school aged girls and boys. Ride the Dragon targets adults and children ages 12 and up.
Direct beneficiaries per year: PFP now has 92 active women participating on recreational and competitive dragon boat crews whose ages span six decades. The Healthy Dragons league for middle school aged boys and girls enrolled 65 students this year. PFP's partnership with the Wellness Community
Programs: Pfp supports a program of training and practices for recreation and participation in dragon boat festivals. In 2014, the team had 91 paddling members and 8 social members. The team participated in 8 festivals in 2014.
pfp also supports a youth team in conjunction with the philadelphia school district. The healthy dragons program is structured to educate philadelphia middle-school students about the value of healthy eating and active living. In 2014, 65 middle-schoolers participated in the program.
