This has been an extremely frustrating experience! I completely understand the long application form. This is for the safety of the animals for adoption. I also understand the fact that they want visit my house. That is okay to a certain level only if I could have a background check on the individual. But sadly I can ever even get to this point. I have inquired on multiple dogs for adoption. I had only received one response back that the adult shepherd was available and then no further response from the rescue. A phone call was even made with no response. It has taking me just over 10 years after the loss of my Shepherd and border collie that were with me for 14 years to start searching for a dog. I figure my daughter is at the age now where we can bring in a fur baby to add to our family. What is frustrating is I don’t believe any of these “rescues” are verified. And our personal information is going out to these questionable sources for the potential adoptions and yet no response ever comes. From any rescue! There needs to be some kind of standard for rescues that are listing fur babies for adoption.

I found a dog I wanted on Petfinder. The adoption form is quite long, and asks for a lot of personal information. Some of the rescue agencies even want to visit my home or worse yet, make a video, which could be a great invasion of privacy and even a danger to me if they distribute the video to the public. Anyway, I submitted the form and the rescue didn't even confirm that they had received it. A week later the dog was given to someone else. This happened 2 out of the 3 times I've applied to adopt. (I'm still waiting to hear about the 3rd dog.) The truth is that the rescue org. decides which applicant gets the dog. I've adopted rescue dogs before, have a good veterinary Doctor, walk them every day, and always give them good care. Both lived to the age of 15. Now I'm faced with continuing to give out private information on a long form, knowing I may NEVER be chosen to adopt a dog, even though there thousands of homeless animals waiting in shelters. Why not just give the animal to the first qualified person to apply?

We found our two amazing dogs (brothers) on Petfinder. Without Petfinder, we wouldn't have even known about them since they came from another state. Petfinder allows small rescue groups like the one that had our guys to reach a huge audience of loving adopters. I now do volunteer work with that rescue group and know how significant Petfinder is in our successful adoption rate. Thanks to Petfinder, many needy dogs are now in loving homes.

Petfinder connected me, my husband and my son to our first and most beloved family dog. It is remarkable how hundreds of thousands of animals are able to find loving homes and families through Petfinder. The ability for shelters and rescues to post adoptable animals and the ease in which prospective families can find their ideal pet as well as facilitate the adoption process brought our dog Jasper to us in 2001. Not only is Petfinder resource for finding family pets, it is also a resource for pet care, health and a celebration of animals. We are searching for our new family dog on Petfinder and know we will find and adopt another cherished pet deserving of a lifelong loving home.

The PetFinder.com Foundation has helped my organization bring supplies to some very under served rescues and shelters in the south and in Appalachia. Without their generous support many of those organizations would not have the tools, food and medical supplies they needed to save animals. We just couldn't help as much as we do without them, can't say enough great things!

I found my rescue dog through petfinder.com. She was 7 years old at the time, considered too old for many to adopt. She'd been through many homes and was in awful physical condition. 7 years later, with some exercise, a better diet, and a lot of love, she's still here with me and I don't know what I would have done without her. Thank you petfinder! The website was user friendly and great, even 7 years ago, and I recommend it to friends all the time.

I am the President of SOS 4 Paws. SOS 4 Paws supports the homeless animals of the Merrimack Valley region in MA. Our adoption rate is high and we could not do this without the existence of PetFinder, an great tool for animal placement. Also, the PetFinder.com Foundation has enabled us, through a grant, to be able to vaccinate cats. PetFinder.Com Foundation's vaccination grant helps the cats to be healthier, makes the shelter safer from potential disease outbreaks, and reduces the overpopulation by finding permanent homes faster.

I am the Treasurer of Outreach to Pets in Need, Inc. (OPIN) OPIN supports the homeless animals of the Stamford CT Animal Shelter and beyond. The Shelter has a 98% adoption rate (the highest in CT) and is a model for other municipal shelters in the Tri-State area. We could not do this without the existence of PetFinder, an incredible tool for animal placement. Furthermore, the PetFinder.com Foundation has enabled us, through a generous grant, to be able to vaccinate every cat that comes through our shelter for Panleukopenia, Rhinotracheitis and Calicivirus (highly contatious and potentially mortal feline deseases.) The people at the PetFinder.Com Foundation are well organized, efficient, effective, courteous, responsive and incredibly kind.... a model deserving duplication. The grants that they provide are geared towards having a high impact within the community. The vaccination grants do not only help the cats be healthier but also to find faster permanent homes thereby reducing overpopulation at municipal animal shelters, and making the community at large safer from potential desease outbreaks.

Petfinders.com Foundation has made it possible for us to build a new shelter and save the lives of countless cats and kittens. Their professional staff, well organized web site and experience in the field of finding home for otherwise unwanted pets is a bright spot in our society. This world needs more organizations like Petfinders.

I am a volunteer for Carbon County Friends of Animals. We utilize Petfinder.com to advertise all of the animals available for adoption in our shelter. We also obtained shelter manager software and advertisements from Petfinder.com. In addition, with the help of Petfinder, our shelter obtained a grant to use in the purchasing of kitten vaccinations. Petfinder.com is an exquisite tool for rehoming animals in fur-ever homes. Thank you SO much Petfinder.com. Your assistance is irreplaceable and very appreciated.

Petfinder as been a very usefule tool for us, as a non-profit shelter, to get out animals placed in good homes. People are able to search for specific animals in their area, which brings in many adoptees that might not have been able to find us before. We usually get 6-10 more animals adopted each month, thanks to this site.

I t helps shelters, rescue groups find homes for homeless animals. It makes it easy for these groups to get available animals adopted. Since the potential pets are posted on the computer it makes it easy for potential adopters to find the pet they are looking for. That is how our rescue group makes the information available on our adoptable dogs.

Petfinder is the way I found my cat, and a great many of my friends found their pets. I heard about it through word of mouth, I think they are doing a remarkable job, offering a place to shelters and rescues everywhere to give us an opportunity to see these little friends. I'm sure the ability to see them online makes it so much easier for people to confront going to the shelters to pick them up, because they know who they are going to meet. Thank you, thank you to Petfinder for my little angel, and for every generous thing they do to help so many animals on so many levels. Jan McGill
