Mission: “The purpose of the Peterborough Players, a non-profit institution, is to provide professional theatre of high quality to a broad-based audience and to do this within a supportive atmosphere such that professionals and students alike may practice and expand their art. We aim to stage the traditional and the experimental, the classical and the contemporary, celebrating the human spirit and, in the process, entertaining.”
Results: Founded in 1933, the Peterborough Players offers professional theatre of the highest quality and has established a reputation for itself as a prime destination in the region. Since its inception, the Peterborough Players has presented its work in an intimate theatre located in a converted 18th-century barn at historic Stearns Farm, three miles from downtown Peterborough. Having completed the most extensive renovations in the company's history in 2006, the theatre now seats 250 in state-of-the-art, air conditioned comfort. As the only professional producing theatre in the region and one of the oldest summer stock companies in the country, the Players has staged more than 300 different plays over the years including works by Shakespeare, Shaw, Ibsen, Wilde, Wilder, Beckett, Williams, Miller, and Mamet. Distinctive from the programming of many other summer theatres, the Players has also presented a variety of world and regional premieres as well as recent work by contemporary playwrights. Seven Main Stage productions are offered each season. In addition, two Second Company shows for children are produced, as well as an Ascending Stars production – a collaborative effort between local high school students and our professional company.
