Mission: Perry Center, Inc., through a collaborative, comprehensive and integrated approach to social services, economic empowerment and youth development, eradicates poverty, its causes and consequences, resulting in positive outcomes for youth, adults and families, within its defined service area.
Programs: Perry Center, Inc.'s social services provides full service management, including counseling and emergency services to poor and at risk families including cases of child abuse and neglect and homeless families, and parenting, domestic violence counseling, and housing assistance and counseling to HIV/AIDS clients. We have a Fatherhood Initiative for young and ex-offender fathers and a Family-to-family Mentoring program to help families on welfare or in danger of going on welfare. Over 3500 people have been helped. The Art Center teaches art, crafts, videos and multi-media forms to youth from 6 to 18. Networked learning centers have age appropriate curricula for youth from 6 to 13 and adolescent and adult programs. Teen programs include literacy, college prep, career options and opportunities, creative writing and marketable skills. HIPPY preschool teaches 3-5 year olds by teaching their parents and provides other family services. Addiction prevention helps youth 11-13 avoid all kinds of addictive substances. More than 1800 youth have participated. The economic empowerment department has placed over 870 people in jobs and over 3600 people in training programs including over 1700 in programs sponsored by Perry Center, Inc. We also provide GED, tax assistance and money management and individual development accounts.
