Pennsylvania Women Work is nothing short of a beacon of hope and empowerment for women across the state. As a nonprofit dedicated to supporting and uplifting women facing economic hardships, this organization excels in creating meaningful, long-lasting change in the lives of its participants.
There's something very special about this incredible organization. Their mission is laser focused on lifting women into financial independence through workshops, career counseling and mentoring. Any woman looking for her first job, considering a career change, re-entering the workforce, etc. is welcomed by a wonderful staff into the program at no cost. It is an honor to be a volunteer mentor at Pennsylvania Women Work.
I have been involved with PA Women Work for several years after a friend found them after being laid off at the start of COVID. I have seen firsthand, through several friends and former co-workers, the work they to do help women find meaningful employment. Because of this experience, I joined in their 3 Cups of Coffee mentoring program and worked with several of their clients at various stages in their careers. I also am an active volunteer with some of their committees and attend several events a year in addition to being a donor.
Their network of support as well as their staff go above and beyond to help women (and men) at any career stage.

I have been blessed to be involved with this charity for several years now. I became aware of PA Women Work after they helped a laid off co-worker find a job during the COVID pandemic (no easy thing). Their mission and focus of helping all women (and men) find meaningful employment spoke to me. I am a donor to their 3 Cups of Coffee mentoring program and a mentor in the program. I have worked with several women in this program and found it very rewarding to share my knowledge (and learn something from the women too). I also volunteer on their annual fundraiser, City of Hope, so that we can spread the good work of this organization to as many folks that need help. All of the services they provide, FOR FREE, to their clients happens because of the hard work of their teams and the community that support them.
Pennsylvania Women Work is one of the most authentic organizations for women empowerment on the planet that I know of personally and professionally. They truly help people and put them in a better place and trajectory in life!
PA Women Work is very successful in helping to lead individuals towards financial independence. There are MANY reasons for this success. One of the biggest reasons is their anticipation of their client's needs which enables them to quickly add new programs and support. Two examples - the RISE and Rework Programs.
Thank you PA Women Work for all that you do every day.
I was laid off late last year and was struggling to figure out how to find a new opportunity, make connections and what tools to use. I participated in the New Choices workshop which provided me with a lot of great resources and feedback about how I could compete and keep my momentum as I entered into the competitive job seeking market. Even after I completed the workshop I knew that PA Women Work would be there to support me along the way. It was also a great way to make connections with others that understand what you are experiencing and allowed me to provide some insights as well.

PA Women Work's approach is unique and successful.

I have been involved with Pennsylvania Women Work several ways:
Former Client: The 3 Cups of Coffee program gave me the opportunity to meet with an experienced mentor in my new career field. The mentoring experience was invaluable because I was able to meet with someone who could give me sound advice on my resume as well as portfolio and interviewing technique suggestions.
Donor: I contribute financially to Pennsylvania Women Work because I have seen first-hand the impact each program has on the lives of the clients.
Staff Member: I have been a full-time staff member of Pennsylvania Women Work for almost two years. I have the wonderful opportunity to provide support and resources to persons who are navigating their unique path into fulfilling employment and careers.
Pennsylvania Women Work is a great non-profit - I am proof!
RISE program is one of the most important steps I took while job searching. Ms.Sandra helped me through the whole process of signing up, explaining the importance of a good resume and helping me get on to Upwardly Global and also helped me gain knowledge on the importance of getting my International Credits evaluated. I have attended many career fairs and have even gotten to be interviewed, thanks to RISE program.
I also attended the 3 Cups of Coffee program and Ms.Taneshya was very encouraging, paired me up with my mentor who in turn helped me learn more things about my job search as well as broadening my horizon of job search.
I am forever grateful to PA Women work Organization for all their sincere help, dedication in motivating and guiding me to find a job the RIGHT way.
My name is Thomas Voigt and I'm running also a non-profit organization called "PAPEN".
Sandra and Taneshya presented in our organization the PA Women Work program and a lot of our clients participated during their job search campaign in the special offer: "3 Cups of Coffee".
First: Sandra and Taneshia are professionals with excellent background and an awesome engagement.
Second: "3 Cups of Coffee" is an excellent opportunity for professionals in the phase of career change or looking for new opportunities to learn about companies of interest and their employees and leader!
Third: our clients were 100% satisfied with this program and found a new opportunity due to this program
I was also participating in the RISE program and it was absolutely helpful!
Thank you very much for your excellent and successful work!

As a client of one of PA Women Work, I cannot explain how much I value and appreciate their work. One of those true in-sung hero organizations, they work hard to meet your specific employment need. Most importantly, they make you feel good about yourself along the way.
I was referred to Pennsylvania Women Work by the Office of Vocational Rehabilitation. So far, I've taken two sets of classes. The first is called 'New Choices' and covers many things one needs to successfully search for and find a job. The second set, called 'Customer Service: First Class' contains two classes from Development Dimensions International (DDI), 'Communicating with Impact' and 'Taking the H.E.A.T.' These two classes cover ways to improve interpersonal communication with a focus on both interviewing for a job and successfully interacting with difficult internal and/or external customers.
I feel that in both of these instances, both the facilitator and the other staff members of Pennsylvania Women Work that I met and worked with were professional, positive and inclusive. I also feel that the individual needs of each client were addressed.
I love the PA WOMEN WORK this organization is more than a place for skills for work. It is a family to my support system in many ways. I am thankful to get the chance to say that I have enjoyed being apart. Also, the teaching and learning is made to be stress-free so you succeed in whatever our goals are, loving kind people that assist you in whatever way there and I say above will let them, this program opens many doors and in many ways for all that are willing to change seek a new direction in life. That is my story I came here from Alabama and was looking for a new start in life I was directed to PA Women Work by my OVR Counselor I'm grateful them all.
I have seen the gratitude, first hand, from the women who receive help from PAWW. PAWW helps with the tools and skills needed for women to find meaningful employment.
I love an organization where women support women! I know my donation is helping to support the growth of others. Great organization!
As an employee and donor of Pennsylvania Women Work, I value the work we do for Pennsylvanians. I see firsthand how this organization is changing lives and helping women lead more successful lives.
Pennsylvania Women Work (RISE) has been very constructive helping me access organizations from the job stand point and they were successful in achieving this task within a short time span. They have reached organizations for me, which I felt it has helped ease my stress over the years of failing to secure a job. As a refugee, it is not easy for many of us to easily connect with organizations, particularly in the jobs market. Luckily, RISE under PWW have done exceptionally well with their commitment connecting us with organizations. They have contacted organizations and advocate for me, which is a great thing. I am very grateful for their services including coaching that I have received from Sandra, which is far beyond my description.

Pennsylvania Women Work offers a mentoring program called Three Cups of Coffee, in which a woman looking for a job is matched with a woman who is experienced in her field, and they meet 3 times at Crazy Mocha (which gives them free coffee) to discuss issues related to finding the right job and work-life balance. I am very impressed with this program! It’s simple yet effective. I really like my mentor, and we have met several times since completing the official program and have kept in touch. It’s a great way to make a new friend and get useful advice!
When I moved back to Pittsburgh from Indiana to be close to my aging parents with my two children in 2016, I had no job, no prospects and no support network. It was an overwhelming situation and I felt more than a bit lost. I was very thankful to get connected with Pennsylvania Women Work. I was matched to a mentor through the 3 Cups of Coffee program, who helped me gain confidence and feel like part of the local professional women. I was soon able to find a position in a new field that gives me a lot of personal satisfaction. I really credit Pennsylvania Women Work with giving me the support I needed to establish myself. Their belief in me was contagious!
I'm trying to return to the workplace after working out of my field and raising my family. The women in this organization are very supportive and helpful! I attended the New Choices program and learned so much about how to conduct a job search and update my resume. I recommend them to any woman who is ready to find a better future!
I have been a community advisory council member for a little over two years. Pennsylvania Women Work is a much needed resource for women who are seeking to find meaningful work and better support themselves financially and independently. The program serves a wide diverse range of women (socio-economic backgrounds, age, education, and race). The staff is sincere and passionate about the work they do and the women they serve. The training and resources that PA Women's Work offers to these women at no cost is a blessing and gives the women Hope, Hope in a future and Hope in themselves. Pennsylvania Women Work is a much needed organization that must stay around for years to come.
Pennsylvania Women Work is a phenomenal resource for women who are seeking to improve their ability to find meaningful work and to better support themselves financially. The program serves a wide variety of women, in terms of socio-economic backgrounds, age, education, and race. I cannot say enough about the training and resources the staff provides at no cost to their clients. As a stay-at-home mom who was striving to return to work, I was blessed to have the opportunity to complete the New Choices Program four years ago. The program enabled me to understand the changes in the job search process and to navigate that process successfully. Thank you, Pennsylvania Women Work!

After being a stay-at-home mom for over 10 years, I felt completely unprepared for re-entering the workforce. The New Choices program at Pennsylvania Women Work taught me about the changes in resumes, job interviews, etc., which had happened in those years. This education gave me the tools I needed to re-enter the job market and find meaningful employment. Thank you!
While I commend those who have been helped, this organization's name implies they help women throughout the state, they certainly receive state funding. However, quite the contrary. There is little to no effort in helping those outside of Allegheny County. I have received emails from this organization stating they are predominantly serving Allegheny County. Despite my efforts to keep trying to make contacts and progress, nobody provided any beneficial assistance. 3 separate people from the organization kept telling me to change my resume, nobody agreed on anything. It was very frustrating and upsetting.
As a professional psychologist, PA Women Work is high on my list of referrals for women who need the empowerment to change their lives. The program, administration and activities are the best possible and offer the chance to change a person's life and the lives of those close to them. Once women have the resources and the people to lift them up, they find a better life for themselves and their families, in a highly constructive way. I don't know what this area would do without them.
For several years I have been a community advisory council member. Over this time, I have seen the program services, management and administration go from good to great, helping individuals in transition to develop life sustaining wages that support them and their families! I have witnessed graduations and personal testimonials from participants on the positive impact PA Women Work has had on their lives. It pleases me that I and other council members and supporters have done our art to help connect grads to career opportunities. Keep up the great work!
I work with a program that regularly refers women to PAWW - they always report back that they had a great experience and benefited from their participation. Especially with the New Choices group, I often hear that the women appreciated the sense of community and support they got from being with a group of women in similar situations, even though a lot of the participants come from different backgrounds.
I have now successfully engaged my journey! Introduced to PA Women Work when I was a homeless veteran living in a shelter with my two children, I enrolled into the New Choices Program. It was an amazing experience that helped transform my life. They demonstrated a viable curriculum, which helped to magnify my marketable skill set. This combined with a compassionate instructor possessing an incomprehensible understanding of people; kindled a resurgence of progressive self-expectations. I was serviced through the many opportunities available through PA Women Work. In addition to their Career Development class, I also completed courses in: Microsoft Word proficiency, (I had been absent from the work force for 4 years raising my children and was grossly behind in current computer technology), also I completed DDI's globally acclaimed Customer Service course, and the Three Cups of Coffee Program, which targeted my career goals and expanded the possibilities for success. Pennsylvania Women Work has been a significant entity in altering previous socioeconomic factors that were laced with barriers toward my self-sufficiency. I am currently experiencing many successes unabated. Housing, employment, transportation and financial stability have all been accomplished; but not complete. My journey continues as I engage in a business venture to launch my own consulting firm. It is my hope, that through this enterprise, I can contribute to the benevolent light of goodwill, ignited atop the torch held in the many hands of those whose light I found. This light, found uplifted throughout the ranks of Pennsylvania Women Work, will remain an ensign among the nonprofits.
PAWW was suggested after finding myself in an overwhelming season of scary changes. Whenever I heard of others stormy seasons, I always wondered...what are they going to do? I never knew such an amazing organization as PAWW existed or was available to women. I can say experiencing the opportunities and benefits of PAWW is a wealth beyond measure. The women I have met are encouraging, supportive and very helpful. Their personalities are beautiful and they are so caring with everyone! I pray the organization continues as it is an extremely needed well of resources. What a BLESSING to have! Thank you!
I went to the program and was blessed with Nueves. She was not only the instructor of the class for the week she is a mentor for LIFE!! The class is very informative and will help you to gain all the necessary skills and confidence for re - entering the workforce.
At the darkest time in many women's lives, Pennsylvania Women Work gives them hope. This organization and its community of women helping women makes a powerful impact -- the holistic approach to each woman's life and the quality of the attention they are able to give to each client is what sets the organization apart. The culture of the place is special; everyone is treated as a whole person.
I've been serving as a mentor through PA Women Work's Three Cups of Coffee program for the past several years. I've had four mentees so far - two just out of college, one with lots of professional experience who had recently relocated to Pittsburgh and wanted to make connections, and one who is looking to get back into the full-time workforce after taking time to raise a child. Women come into the program with a wide variety of situations -- and, as a mentor, I'm able to make the time commitment work easily into my life to help offer guidance from my own career experiences. Two of these women are now employed at my company (!) and my current mentee is on the road to securing full-time employment. It's a highly fulfilling experience that makes an immediate, real-life impact on both sides of the mentorship. I hope to maintain relationships for a lifetime with the wonderful, ambitious mentees I have had the privilege to work with through PA Women Work.
I'm a mentor for the 3 Cups program and can't think of a better way to give women the help and resources they need, wether entering the work place for the first time or re-entering after several years. It's a great way for mentees to have a shoulder to lean on and learn about everything from writing an effective resume and cover letter to the interview process.
An invaluable community partnership was established between Bidwell Training Center (BTC) and Pennsylvania Women Work (PA WW). The referral process’ goal is to minimize barriers for our adult students (both men and women, despite its name) on their road to self-sufficiency. The number one obstacle for our adult students is transportation. Pennsylvania Women Work, thru its partnership with Traveler’s Aid, provides public transportation assistance with monthly bus passes which helps our students overcome a heavy financial burden while attending full-time classes, this becoming our number one resource.
Where the programs of Pennsylvania Women Work meet the necessities of our student population, the staff exceeds in customer service. There is always a willingness to serve our students and communicate with BTC staff in a friendly, eager, and responsive manner. On a regular basis, PA WW reaches out to BTC to survey current student needs and gauge how they can be of service. Occasionally, PA WW staff goes well beyond what is asked by staying after their scheduled work day to reassure that connections are made.
From the beginning of the student experience by being referred to Bidwell Training Center thru Pennsylvania Women Work’s New Choices, New Options and having a support system in pace, to assisting enrolled students with tangible help like transportation and clothing, to preparing graduates with professional development opportunities, there is no other community partner like Pennsylvania Women Work.
Pennsylvania Woman Work is the best organization which helps Women to achieve their goals. They have plenty of qualities and provide services with a high level of professionalism.
As a recent college graduate and a mother of four returning to the workforce, I've greatly benefited from the 3 Cups of Coffee program. Having a mentor in my field of study has been invaluable in aligning myself professionally for an environment that is unfamiliar to me. It has also given me hope, confidence and inspiration in a difficult job market. Most of all, it has given me a sense of perspective that although my background may differ from other applicants, I have the core skills required to succeed - it's just a matter of time before things will fall into place.
Pennsylvania Women Work is BY FAR one of the best organizations with which I have ever been involved. There is no greater advocate for the education and empowerment of women in Pennsylvania, and the programming and support services are a model for success throughout the country. I continue to be truly amazed at the achievements of the organization as a whole, as well as, the individuals who complete the program. Outstanding women, outstanding work!
Initially I was brought to this organization through my wife, who has served in various volunteer roles through the years. However, the organization, their programs and dedication to providing customized support never ceases to amaze me. Pennsylvania Women Work may be dedicated to supporting women, but through their programs they are also supporting men, and more importantly families across the Pittsburgh Region to be economically self-sufficient and reach their individual goals of growth and development. If you, or someone you know, is looking to transition to something better - tell them to reach out to Pennsylvania Women Work!
PA Women Work is very active in helping women succeed in business and society. My personal experience with them was in a recent college graduate program designed for men and women; this was a phenomenal networking experience for me both professionally and personally. I look forward to seeing what more this organization does in the future!
Pgh women's work is an outstanding organization. They are knowledable
And resourceful. First rate organization
,
I've been involved with PA Women Work through the BNY Mellon "3 Cups of Coffee" program. I've met some amazing women with numerous struggles, who are determined to overcome adversity and move forward with a fresh start and a new career. I've enjoyed every coffee session and have grown as a mentor over the past 4 years. It is such a great feeling to see your mentees with a hopeful attitude when you are helping them with their resumes or interviewing skills. Even more rewarding is to hear from a past mentee thanking you because they were able to secure employment with your help. I can't say enough good things about this program and PA Women Work!
This is a great organisation. We need to publicize their efforts through the roof tops. I was privileged to volunteer for the three cups of coffee program. I have met women from very different walks of life going through unimaginable challenges but who are resilient besides the odds. This organisation gives them the support, encouragement and tools to take the next step in improving their lot in life or connecting with other women who can assist, guide and encourage. I learnt humility, empathy and courage by volunteering.
As a student at the University of Pittsburgh, I am so grateful that Pa Women Work accepted me onto their Board of Directors, serving as a Student Board Member for the 2016 year. Serving on the Board has provided me with insight into many facets of the organization that have really augmented my student experience and knowledge of how nonprofits function. The wonderful and devoted staff have impressed and inspired me with their endless dedication to their mission. Through my time on the Board, I've seen firsthand all of the hard work Pa Women Work puts in to serve women in the state of Pa. They are the best!
I commend PA Women Work for the fine work that they do in this community. I am aware of many women whose lives they have dramatically improved. It has been my extreme pleasure to serve others through them over the years. Lately I have been quite ill and I require round the clock nursing care in my home. I always am much more comfortable when my nurses have been enrolled in PA Women Work programs. Kudos to them and to the people whom they serve. —Linda A. Dickerson, Principal, 501(c)(3)2
Pennsylvania Women's Work is a FANTASTIC organization!! I am a New Choices Graduate of 2012. The New Choices program assisted me in learning new computer skills, and how to write a resume tailored to today's new market. I have had nothing but positive experiences at PA Women Work and highly recommend it to anyone that needs to learn new skills, learn to write a resume, need assistance finding a career etc...

I've been involved with Pennsylvania Women Work for about 10 years in a variety of roles (Board member, committee volunteer and mentor). PAWW has solid leadership and dedicated volunteers who are passionate about the organization’s mission to help clients across Pennsylvania develop career plans that lead to family-sustaining wages. Through careful stewardship of gifts and grants, creative program design and an amazing volunteer network, PAWW goes the extra mile to support women as they work to better their lives. It’s not often you can be part of something that has such impact.
Pennsylvania Women Work is an excellent nonprofit, since it helps low income women and women that have recently been divorced to get back on their feet. Through career development, computer and customer service classes it helps women to upgrade their skills so they can get better jobs to support themselves and their families. These are the reasons why Pennsylvania Women Work is such a worthwhile organization.
As a business services counselor with the Office of Vocational Rehabilitation (L&I), I know first hand the power of networking. I started to refer women to their superlative 3 Cups of Coffee mentoring. I was so impressed by both the previous and current director of that program and the wonderful mentoring that my consumers received that I reached out to PAWW to become a member of the their advisory committee. I am impressed with their entire staff -- assiduous, intelligent, passionate, and compassionate -- as well as their wonderful short-term training programs. I know that if I refer a woman to PA Women Work she will be treated with dignity and respect and we'll feel empowered as her skills and confidence grow.

I was able to take the customer service training program, a six day program. It was a wonderful experience for everyone in the class. New thinking, new techniques, total emphasis on the satisfactory customer experience. Many issues were presented to our instructor as real world examples of what students were dealing with on a daily basis. Our instructor used these examples to teach new ways of dealing with these situations leading to a satisfied customer outcome.
Our instructor, Neimis, is a brilliant woman and a superb teacher. She was in total command of this very diverse group and expected, and got, their best effort.
Top notch employers were on hand for interviews at the end of class. I think everyone should take this class. I was very proud to be a board member of Pennsylvania Women Work.
I was enrolled in the New Choices Career Development and Customer Service programs at PAWW while doing an internship here gave me the best of both worlds my experience thus far has been very enlightening and rewarding; this program is probably one of the best programs I have heard about in a long time I would gladly refer any woman who is going through a period of transition to join PAWW; you will definitely be glad you did!!!
Pennsylvania Women Work does an amazing job of providing customized services to clients around the state of Pennsylvania. The sole mission of PAWW is to support women in their journey to achieve economic self sufficiency and be the best that they can be. There are many different programs that PAWW offers from transportation assistance to full certification classes. If you are looking to enhance your career - but you aren't sure where to start, PAWW can help!
I recently attended the PWW classes at Shaler High School. I was pleased with the professionalism and compassion shown by the instructor. She was very encouraging and showed true interest in each and every one of her students. Thank you for helping build my confidence and giving me the push that I needed to start on my new path of success.
I completed customer service training via Pennsylvania Women Work. The actual classroom training was interesting. Most importantly there was the opportunity to participate in both mock and actual interviews with representatives/recruiters from five Pittsburgh companies that hire customer service representatives. I would recommend this program to anyone who wishes to explore opportunities in the customer service arena.
I was transitioning back into the workforce after being a stay-at-home mom for 2yrs. Although, I was nervous and did not interview well initially for the program, the Instructor called me back personally and expressed that she could tell I was nervous but that my qualifications and resume were of value and that she would like me to join the class Monday. I was so overjoyed by the second chance and appreciated her understanding my emotions and how hard it is to really put yourself out there for approval. She helped me so much with my confidence and soon I was in the class, learning about Customer Service, gaining new skills and enjoying the company of my fellow ladies. I had a great experience with the PA Women Work Program and I am currently employed at my job at BNY Mellon Bank through the program and it has been a blessing for me and my family. Please continue to sponsor this program, many women would benefit from what they have to offer and it will truly make a difference in their life.
I took a class with PA women's work called new choices. It helped me a great deal with my self confidence and my resume. I would recommend this class to anyone who is looking to change careers or get back into the workforce.
I've been a mentor with PA Women Work for 3 years. I've met some amazing women who took a positive step in their life by completing the New Choices program. Being a Mentor has been such a rewarding experience. Being able to share my expertise, resources and a friendly smile with someone who is struggling to make a better life for themselves is a win-win for both of us! Pa Women Work gives women who have come out of difficult situations the tools to succeed and have hope that there is a brighter future for them in sight!
I began volunteering with PAWW over 3 years ago and shortly thereafter joined the Corporate Advisory Committee. PAWW is an integral part of the community and serves as a resource, advisor, partner and advocate for many families. I continue to be impressed by the organization's professionalism, care for their clients, vision of empowerment and execution of the vision. This organization changes lives and being a part of the Advisory Committee has provided me with tangible evidence of the work PAWW does on a daily basis. I am proud to be a part of the organization and hope we can together continue to serve our clients in new ways and reach out to new clients and bring them into our community.
THIS ORGANIZATION Has TAUGHT ME INSIGHT ON HOW TO PRESENT MYSELF ON PAPER AND verbally to m;y potential employer. Both of my instructors has shown be ways to reflect my computer skills and organizational
abilities to another level. My background in budgets and finance has been enhanced. I have found A BETTER WAY
organize my multiple assignments. I thank Gail Marie Ivey for all her information to enable me to better present financial and budget information.
The program New Choices is such a positive experience. I have learned how to deal with my low self-esteem and how to build it up in a positive way. The instructors are very helpful and patient with the clients. They don't overwhelm you with a lot of stuff. They make sure that you understand what is going on and what you need to learn for a better experience job searching. Also, how to make you stand out among all the people who are searching for the same job as you. I have had such a wonderfully positive experience and would recommend this program for women across the country.
It has helped me with building my self esteem and meeting other lady's who are learning job skills like myself, and teaching me patience and the instructors has patience and are very kind and giving me purpose to find a JOB
My experience with Pennsylvania Women Work far exceeded my initial expectations on many levels. I have been pleasantly surprised, encouraged and equipped by the 5 programs that I have participated in so far. I can now see that what I entered into was not just a class but rather a relationship in an caring and empowering network. This is a wonderful gift.
The staff are genuinely committed to helping each participant succeed personally and professionally. I am amazed at the priceless resources that they are able to offer at no cost. I would not have believed that such an effective system existed for free. They deliver these services in an expedited manner in a supportive atmosphere.
The executive and administrative staff work hard as a non profit to provide all the resources. The instructors are all well qualified and sincere about their desire to develop others. They facilitate growth experiences that are challenging, rewarding and fun. Their nurturing skills become contagious along the way. All of the staff are committed to their mission to equip and empower others.
Attending the the New Choices program has been one of the best decisions that I have made in the past year and I wholeheartedly endorse their methods and mission. I am truly grateful for the gift of this valuable experience.
I lost my position in my company back in July 2014, I looked for employment but was not having any luck in finding employment. I saw an article in my Sunday paper about a program called 3 Cups of Coffee where after completing the PA New Choices program on Career Development with Neives Stiker and Microsoft Word with Gail Ivey they would help setup a person for you to meet with in the field that you were interested in to give you advice and maybe act as a mentor. I cannot tell you how wonderful & important these two women were for me and how they give me my self esteem back along with making me feel that I had something to contribute which is so important when looking for work. I am very grateful to both of them.
I have completed the career development & Microsoft Word program and I am currently taking a program through them with Design Development International in Customer Service which is being taught by another wonderful women Susan Showalter-Bucher. Susan is very knowledgeable and makes this class interesting and once again I am very grateful to her.
I will start the 3 Cups of Coffee program with Vicki Lish once I have completed the rest and I am really looking forward to it. I am learning new skills & feel that I will be able to meet an employers expectations once I am done.
I am so grateful to have found this program, being with other women in the same position as you are really makes a difference & builds your confidence. I don't know where I would be at this time without this program.
I also wanted to comment on Linda Broze who is the program manager for PA Women Work. Linda has always made me feel welcome & her door is always open for us which makes this even better.
I am so fortunate to have found this program and I hope in the future it is still around for other women who are going through transitions in their lives. It is an extremely important program and I am very, very thankful to have been part of it.

My experience here at PA Women Work was great! I really appreciated the time and knowledge our instructor, Susan Showalter-Bucher, presented. Being in the customer service field for several years, I thought my skills were "pretty good". This class has helped me become more aware of many aspects and key points I was missing. It has also opened up many other opportunities for me. If I would improve one thing it would be the length. Although we covered so many basis, we could have covered more with more time. I'm sure our instructor pulled out the main elements for us. It was a joy to be a part of this.
PAWW - It's about: Remembering your value. It's networking with other women in the same position. It's learning new skills such as computer and software programs; Customer service; interviewing; networking and more. It's about learning where your strengths are, what preferences you have, and you rights and responsibilities as a working woman. PAWW is about joining a network of women who understand where you are coming from, where you want to go, and are there to help you with that journey. And they actually understand what being there means.
I would recommend this program to any woman who is going back into the workforce, who is looking for support to rediscover herself - her strengths and dreams - to open up new and wonderful possibilities for a solid and satisfying future.
I stumbled onto Pennsylvania Women Work purely by accident and from the moment I started interacting with the staff, it has been a blessing and a pleasure. Malinda, the Administrative Assistant is awesome, very personable and very helpful. Malinda explained the services that I had inquired about and more. I joined the new choices class which is currently 5 weeks long 2 days a week , facilitated by Nieves Stiker. Mrs Stiker is very passionate about teaching the class, about helping the participants learn about themselves, and creatnig a no judgement zone by making everyone feel comfortable.
I also joined the customer service class which is being taught by Susan Showalter-Bucher which I find to be a great refresher opportunity for me. Susan is very knowledgeable and encourages participation, allowing everyone to share their thoughts. I really appreciate the energy and work that each person at PA Women Work has put in to this program and the classes because I know I will be a better person at the end of this experience. Thank you PA Women Work.
After over 20 years in the workforce, I was "right sized" from my position with a major financial institution. Navigating through the unfamiliar job market and unemployment experience was a daunting task. Fortunately, I had a 3 Cups of Coffee mentor in my corner, encouraging me when I was discouraged and offering support throughout the journey. Being a fairly independent person, I was surprised by how much it helped my outlook just knowing there was a professional woman in the industry who believed in me and my abilities. 3 Cups of Coffee is a great program for networking as well, plus the coffee is free! I would highly recommend participating in 3 Cups of Coffee to any woman seeking employment.
I've been a volunteer with PA Women Work for about a year and have seen firsthand how well-organized and dedicated the staff are at making sure everyone who enrolls in their 3 Cups of Coffee mentoring program gets what they need. I really like their focus on women to women mentoring and that they encourage self-sufficiency and empowerment. It is wonderful to see an organization who truly cares for their community and lives for their mission.
I am a graduate of the "New Choices, New Options" program. I am so grateful for the opportunity I had to go through this wonderful program. I had been recently widowed and had been unable to find work to support myself and didn't really know how I was going to be able to move on and become a part of the working class again. this program gave me my self confidence back and all the tools I needed to get to where I am now. I am working at a job I really enjoy and also working on starting my own business in the near future. This program needs to be rewarded for what it does for individuals like me who can then be a benefit to the whole society. It needs and deserves to be funded.
I am graduate of New Choices in Altoona. I learned about the program when my plant closed down last March through carreerlink. I enjoyed it very much. There was a lot of opportunities out there that I wasn't aware of without the help of New Choices. I actually enrolled in YTI to further my education into a different field. I am 57 years old and starting over in life. Without the help of New Choices I would have been lost.
Hello, I am a graduate of the Altoona New Choices Program; 2014. I found out about the program through the Altoona Community Education Classes that I was attending there while going through a difficult time in my life. The New Choices Program has helped me in so many ways. The inspirational stories of others and how they got through their hard moments in life, and meeting new friends, has helped me to see that I wasn't the only one out there, when sometimes I felt like it. There were many wonderful, uplifting guest speakers from many agencies that came to speak to us on topics like self worth, self esteem, never too old to go back to college to be self sufficient, and more. To keep moving and don't sit around at home feeling sorry for yourself. To check the newspapers, Career Link, the Altoona Library, and how to network with others. Tammie Fleck, and the program has been so helpful to me. I am now working again and feeling happy. I pray it continues to help many more people. Thank-you Tammie, and the New Choices Program!!! Donna Smeltzer.
I graduated from New Choices New Options 2 years ago. I was a single mom with 3 kids, and had a part time job. While I liked my part-time job, it was not fulfilling. I knew there was something more for me. I originally had planned to return to school. While touring our local Vo-tech, I learned about the New Choices program and I enrolled. It was the best decision I could have made at that time. I completed the course, and a few days later, completely by chance, I was called for an interview working with people who would be returning to get their GED's. I couldn't believe it, I had just learned about these services by going through New Choices! I aced the interview, and now, 2 years later, I have obtained a full time job as an executive secretary. My dream has come true! New Choices New Options gave me the guidance I needed, the knowledge I needed, to push myself to the next level.
This program far exceeds any other that is offered by local employment offices, or ready to work programs. New Choices provides more than opportunity - it provides many a chance to realize personal potential, awakens a renewed sense of self-worth, and instills a sense of accomplishment and inspiration. This program is valuable in ways that are not necessarily tangible . Having worked with New Choices clients, I never ceased to be amazed at the transformation, both professionally and personally, each person experienced.
I found myself at a major transition point as I reentered the work force after 17 years as a stay-at-home mom. I had no computer skills, no direction for my "second act" and no confidence. The career development class helped me to develop a resume and provided a support system. The computer classes gave me the neccesary skills to go out and find a job that I love. After I completed the coursework I volunteered at PAWW at their clothing closet and at their Circle of Hope annual fundraiser. I wanted to give back to an organization that had done so much for me. Last October I was honored as one of the 2013 "Women of Courage" because of the changes I had made to my life and my career. None of those changes would have been possible without Pennsylvania Women Work.
I Started PAWW without any focus and any goal in my life. Today I am busy going to school and working. New Choices had given me the opprtunnity to believe in myself and dream on a real future for me and my family.
My connection with PAWW began as an intern. Since moving on from my internship, I have remained connected to the organization as a member of the Corporate Advisory Committee. I have seen firsthand the impact that PAWW makes in the lives of clients and in the community. The programs provided by PAWW give women a chance to not only secure a job, but a career. With that comes confidence, relief, and a better life. This organization is constantly looking for more effective ways to serve clients. PAWW and the women who participate in it are truly an inspiration!
The New Choices program at Temple University is a program that allows students to articulate their gifts and expand on their goals while learning how to juggle home and other issues. I had a GREAT instructor Ms. Debra Mitchell and I would recommend this program.
When I came to PWW, I was re-entering the job market after several years. I had been applying for jobs and never coming up with anything significant. After taking their classes, I started to understand what the employers were looking for these days. I also learned how to update my resume and use a computer. I also learned a lot about myself and they help me develop the confidence needed to go any where and interview for a job. I will always be indebted to PWW.
I have volunteered with PAWW for more than 8 years. I have seen first hand the positive impact they have on their client's lives. In addition to their daily work with job skill training and advocacy, PAWW hosts meaningful events such as a trip to the state capital for the women to meet with their representatives, a career conference, and their annual Circle of Hope recognition dinner.

I've had the privilege and honor to work for and to serve PA Women Work, a non-profit organization, for over 10+ years. During this tenure, I have had the opportunity to witness the many lives that our New Choice Directors have touched and changed. A number of our participants are now in a position to give back to their community -- they are employed and are counted as part of the work force. Because they are employed they can now contributes to the local and state tax base. Because they are employed they can shop at and grow the revenues of the local community commerce. They are no longer a burden, nor are they reliant, on the government provided subsidies. These women are strong contributors to the community but most important they are strong independent and self-sufficient women setting the examples for their families. Thanks PA Women Work! Keep up the good work.
This organization strives to offer customized support to women in transition across the state of Pennsylvania. By reviewing each individual's skill sets and capacity, Pennsylvania Women Work takes the time to remove barriers for client's to achieve economic stability.

I was first referred to PA Women Work by a colleague, and I wasn't sure what to expect. That was 6 years ago! I am thrilled to say while it seems as if I volunteer my time to support this organization, the organization actually helps me develop both personally and professionally. We can all use an extra hand, an extra encouraging word, and that "kick in the pants" to achieve more! This organization is truly end-to-end - when you need help, it's there, when you want to lend a hand, you can! Just a wonderful, all-around organization to JOIN and SUPPORT!
I was laid off from my position and read a flyer that my son brought home from school about the New Choices Program. I must admit, I was a little skeptical at first, but when I registered for the classes I realized how much more there was to learn. I needed to update my computer skills, take a career development class to review where my strengths and weaknesses were, and get back in the game. I learned more about myself, gained new skills, and met great people through the program. So if you are entering the job market after a long hiatus, looking to learn new skills to update your resume, or are looking for potential employers...the New Choices Program is the first step towards changing your attitude, your skills, your look, and creating a more confident and positive you for the world to see!!

I am a 2013 graduate of the New Choices Program. I heard about them through an email from a friend. I have been out of the last three years. I didnt have any expectations going into the program, but I received a lifetime of knowledge and wisdom from the instructors to the other participants in the program. I came into the program broken and lost and graduated with a new outlook on life. The New Choices program isnt just a career development course but a course on life skills, self esteem building, confidence, etc. I was able to develop new relationships and friendships through networking. I was also referred and learned about many other resources within my community.
I need to change careers after 11 years in a job with no benefits or pension so I decided to take a first step toward that goal by going to the 9 week Career Development classes sponsored by PA Women Work. I now have short and long term goals to work toward and within a year I should be ready to search for a more challenging job after updating my computer skills and resume.
I had been out of full-time work for over 15 years when I began the New Choices program. By working on upgrading my computer skills, learning customer service skills, increasing my self esteem, revamping my resume, and networking opportunities provided by PAWW I was able to secure a full time benefited position working for UPMC Health Plan in November of 2012. I feel so much better about myself and more hopeful about my family's future. PAWW has had a major impact on my life!
I was lost and didn't know where I was going to go in my life. I got a chance to join Pennsylvania Women Work. I decided to join so I filled out the application, I went in for a orintation and from that point on I decided to join. Once I was in I learned alot, the instructors made sure that I understand and was able to get a great education. Now I'm working as a Administrator Assistant. I recommend this to anybody that wants a skill that can change their life!
I have been involved in PAWW for several years serving in a variety of positions. This organization ranks the highest in outreach having one-on-one interaction with clients. PAWW is responsive to the needs of it client base often going above and beyond in its mission to serve women.
As a member of the Advisory Board for PA Women Work, I have been very impressed with the organizations focus on making a difference for their clients. PA Women Work is an organization that stands by their clients for the duration of the relationship - that is what sets them apart! Whether it's by offering top notch training courses; mentoring; career counseling -- often leading to networking and ultimately interviews; general life skills; and more -- they walk the walk vs. talking the talk. This partnership gives their clients the confidence that they CAN succeed and ensures that they can continue to lean on PAWW until they are ready to be on their own.
