I have volunteered for the Pittsburgh Resource Council over the years helping with their “Hard to Recycle Collection” and “Household Chemicals and Pharmaceutical Collection Program”. I have also helped with “Southside Clean-Up” picking up garbage on the street. This is a wonderful organization which not only helps our environment but offers adult education classes to our community dealing with collecting water using rain barrels, composting, and solar energy. I have taken two of the classes and can tell you they are very informative and learned a lot. They also go out to the schools and teach the children about recycling and composting, how great that is. I cannot say enough wonderful things about this organization. The Pittsburgh Foundation's Day of Giving is on Tuesday, October 4 and it would be a great way to show your support for this grand organization.
As an individual who lives, works and plays here in SW Pennsylvania I appreciate all that PRC does in environmental education (composting, vermiculture and in-school programming), hazardous and hard to collect events that keep toxic materials out of landfills and potentially our drinking water and for the creation of ZeroWaste and Recycling events. The "Don't Be a Litterbug" icon is a creation of Pennsylvania Resources Council!
