I started volunteering at the Peninsula Rescue Mission when I retired about 4 years ago. After a couple of years I was privileged to join the Board of Directors to help execute the vision of helping homeless people in the community. It is a blessing to be involved with this amazing organization. God bless the staff and give them the strength to be the hands and feet of Jesus

Causes: Homeless & Housing, Homeless Shelters
Mission: We exist to serve the poor and needy, shelter the homeless, and share Christ with all that come our way.
Results: Since our founding in 1966 we have provided: ~ over 581,773 nights of lodging ~ over 1,502,856 meals served to our residents Last year we provided: ~12,243 nights lodging ~22,104 meals served 68% of our transient guests have jobs when they leave us.
Target demographics: Men and women experiencing homelessness
Direct beneficiaries per year: 909 men with 12,243 nights of lodging and 22,104 meals; 175 families at Thanksgiving; and 128 children at Christmas.
Geographic areas served: the Peninsula of Hampton Roads
Programs: Feeding and lodging of homeless men; work rehabilitation program for homeless men. Feeding and lodging of homeless women; life skills program with counseling for homeless women. Assistance to needy families - food at Thanksgiving; new toys and clothes at Christmas.
