Peninsula Emergency Medical Service Council Inc

Programs: The peninsulas ems council is a 501(c)(3) non-profit, tax exempt organization designated by the virginia department of health office of emerergency medical services as a regional ems council under state statute as part of virginia's comprehensive ems system. In fy 18, it served to assess, identify, coordinate, plan and implement an efficient and effective regional ems delivery system for the viginia peninsula, middle peninsula and northern neck in cooperation with the virginia office of ems and state ems advisory board. During 2018, the council integrated and coordinated resources and developed plans and stategies for the use of resources to achieve expert patient care by ems agencies, local hospitals and referral hospitals. In addition, it also coordinated medical direction to establish the regional standard of care. Continuing, pems coordinated ems initial and continuing education adn training. Critical incident stress managaement services, disaster and mass casualty incident management exercies and evaluation, consolidated testing, rescue squad assistance fund grant assistance review, regional medication box program, regional ems supply restocking program and regional award recognition program. Pems also provided system development forums for ems operations, pharmacies, operation medical directors, performance improvement, trauma, st elevation myocardial infarction, stroke, crisis and behavioral health, consolidated testing, hospital facilities, inter-facility and critical care transport agencies, and mass casualty/ems mass gathering incident managers. Pems actively engaged in ems advisory board committees including: legislative and planning, medical direction, ems emergency management, and awards. Finally, pems actively engaged in regional healthcare planning and coordination as a member of the eastern virginia healthcare coalition and hampton roads metropolitan medical response system.
