I’ve adopted four Shar Pei through Pei People. They have always been great to work with, are concerned with making sure each dog is a good fit, don’t have overly restrictive adoption requirements, and have always been available after the adoption to answer any medical questions I have had with my pups. Highly recommend!

Pei People was so great to work with! Other rescues had home/fence restrictions - but Pei People was flexible and knew good homes came in different sizes. I have a condo, but live surrounded by national forest (unfenced, of course). Almost 2 years later, Walter never misses the chance to go on a hike or grab a puppacino at Starbucks with his big sister Tamsin! He's a great fit for the family!
We adopted Harrison from pro people last year and he has been the most wonderful gift we could have ever received he’s the most beautiful boy with the most wonderful personality thank you for everything you guys do for these beautiful creatures
Pei People made it very easy for me to adopt my first dog. It's one thing to read a lot about the special needs and medical care of the Shar-pei breed, but it doesn't replace the decades of experience the volunteers have with caring for them. I really appreciated the ongoing support they provided throughout the transition period and beyond. They were very responsive to my (many) questions. This is an amazing and very well organized rescue, I highly recommend them!!
I have volunteered with a few rescues in the past but Pei People Shar Pei Rescue is by far the best rescue I have been a part of. They always go above and beyond for the dogs that come 8 to rescue, provide top medical treatment and find the best homes for them as well. I am truly honored to be a part of such a great organization.
We had never adopted a rescue before, had purchased our Shar Pei’s from a breeder. We’ve adopted 3 amazing Pei’s from this rescue & each time the experience was very professional & smooth. Any follow up questions we had were answered quickly. We will continue to get our Shar Pei’s from here.

Pei People is an amazing rescue, they know their shar peis. I have a 7 year old that we have had since she was a puppy. We have a 1 year shar Pei and they get along great. The volunteers are friendly and knowledgeable.
9 years ago, Pei People matched me with a wonderful 9 week old named Olaf. I traveled from Boise, ID to Bakersfield, CA. I would do it again in a heartbeat! He is my pride and joy. We have been bonded since day 1! Forever will have Pei People in my heart & mind and very thankful to them for everything.

Every adoption has been wonderful with the dogs already spayed/neutered, vaccinated and microchipped. They even take care of all the work to transfer the microchip to me as new owner! I have adopted two dogs from Pei People. One was a senior bear coat who spent an additional 7 wonderful years with us. The other was hardly a year and in the past 4 years he has blossomed. Each adoption was a wonderful experience and I will adopt again in the future! My experience with Pei People was so great now I am a volunteer with the group.
Through the years of fostering and adopting Sharpei from rescues I hadn't had the opportunity to work with Pei People. However, I was able to adopt one this last year through them. Pei People have been supportive, and I can say without reservation that their focus is 100% on the care of the dogs in the rescue. They are wonderful, kind and compassionate. Their knowledge and understanding of the breed is amazing.
Rory (Sharpei mix) came from Pei People Sharpei rescue. They saved her from a city pound. Pei People had to put alot into getting her healthy and ready for adoption. We are grateful to have found her through their organization.

Pei People continues to go above and beyond. I have seen so many special needs dogs taken in and given the help they need to feel better, physically and mentally. Their fosters are all such special people, they give so much of themselves. This rescue is truly "about the dogs." They currently have a foster forever dog that has ongoing medical needs and they continue to provide that care for him, placing him in a loving foster forever home and bringing this boy to his full potential, I have added before and after pictures. Mario has stolen my heart... You can see what great care he has received! He will be loved and cared for the rest of his life. Each one of their pups is special and placed in the best possible homes. They have many supporters that believe in them - and who wouldn't? They allow us to follow each pups story, giving pupdates, and sharing the journey. One of the best!!

Pei People Shar Pei Rescue does amazing work. Their volunteers work hard, day in and day out, saving dogs, transporting dogs to appointments and foster homes, caring for those in the foster homes, answering the calls of shelters that are overfilled and forced to put dogs on the euth list, taking excellent care of the dogs until they are adopted and caring forever for those that may not be adoptable. They go above and beyond, giving their all and setting a pace that is hard for others to follow. They are the flagship rescue proving that all is possible.

I've been volunteering with this organization for almost 8 years now. I appreciate our Pei community and how everyone is friendly and helpful. We transport, volunteer, foster and have adopted from this organization. Whenever I post about our female (adopted 7yrs ago through Pei People) the rescue remembers her. It's a great feeling & comfort to be part of a group of like-minded individuals who share the same passion.
I have been working with shar pei rescue groups since the early 2000's and this group has been the most resourceful and helpful rescue that I've ever worked for. Everyone is there for each other, even though many of us are located in different states. I have also adopted two pei from Pei People so I give them double points.
When my sharpei Rocky got old and was not going to be with me much longer, I called Pei People after looking at their website and telling them I wanted to adopt an older dog named Trump who was being fostered in southern CA. I live in Northern CA. They even arranged with a volunteer pilot to fly Trump up to me. This is how committed they are to getting forever homes for the dogs they rescue. It's been two years now and I still love my rescue dog. I can't say enough about this organization's volunteers and all they do for the doggies.
The Pei People Shar Pei Rescue is absolutely WONDERFUL! They give beyond 100% of dedication to giving these animals a second chance. This organization is like a big family. They help out from state to state with everything from transportation, events, advice, pulling dogs from shelters & just keeping everyone in the loop. My husband & I had adopted a blind dog from them about 3 years ago. His story was that he was in a shelter with SEVERE skin & immune problems. Pei Ppl went & pulled him out of the shelter, treated him & got him healthy enough to be adopted! Thank u for giving Dallas a second chance at life! I've been fostering for this rescue for years and the people I've met who volunteer as well as the people who've adopted dogs have become great friends.
This group of rescue vollenteers does such an outstanding job. It’s highly organized and does rescue and placing Shar Pei dogs”not the easiest breed to rescue or cheepest vet bills ” into quality loving forever homes. I have one adoption from them and fostered on occasion. They do it all the correct way. Best rescue ever.
Peipeople has been amazing helping my sweet boy Henry be the dog he is today. Henry came to Peipeople with a horrible skin infection thanks to them and my continued care he is a happy much less stinky guy!
Pei People could be a model for rescues, breed specific and others. I found a Pei online in a state they were not set up In. Within 24 hours, I applied and became a Pei foster, they contacted the owner, had the dog in foster care, vetted, and transported within the next 3 weeks. Henry is in great health, and in a loving home. I am a foster for a local rescue, and this group takes it to a high level of competency and caring with their network of fosters and contributors.

I was so impressed with the support I received from the state coordinator here in Phoenix I decided to continue to foster. Any dog who ends up a Pei People dog is very lucky! These dogs get the veterinary care they need and are placed in foster homes where they get love, attention and often basic training...Pei People does the best job they can matching their dogs with forever families...this is a great rescue!
Peipeople doesn't just help rescue shar pei's, they help the family looking to adopt a shar pei. I adopted Winston from them. But I needed a certain personality in my rescue because of other animals in my home. They matched me up with PERFECTION! I couldn't have done better. This organization knows the breed! I will continue to let them find the best additions to my home.
Our family loves PeiPeople. We adopted a rescue Shar Pei and re-named her Charlie and was absolutely the best doggie ever. PeiPeople was fantastic in making sure Charlie was a perfect fit for our family and helped us throughout the entire process. I can’t wait when the time is right to adopt our next SharPei from them again.

I found Pei people on line and have had a great time with them I wanted to foster a sharpie.They went out of there way to find a dog that would get along with mine . took the time to find out what my pack was like Chardoney was a dog that came from a cruelty case in LA she is missing one of her eyes and was very scared of people after having her for awhile I decided to adopt her she is now a sweet heart and a big part of the family couldn't ask for a better experience and look forward to fostering in the future.it is the people in this group that make it what it is hard working people who relay care about the dogs thank you for all you do
I have adopted two amazing dogs from this rescue in the last year, and it has changed my life. Pei People finds these pups that are abandoned and in need of a family, and they give them a safe place to land until they are adopted. They get amazing veterinary care and the fosters who take these dogs in are wonderfully kind and loving. And after adoption, the people who work in this organization make themselves available as resources for those of us who are less experienced dog-owners. And most importantly, my pups, Penelope and Ichabod, have made my life so much brighter and happier. I wouldn’t have my sweet pups if not for this wonderful rescue.

My experience with Pei People has been and continues to be more than I could hope for. From the start, all logistical details were perfectly in place. I rescued a beautiful 2 year old little boy, or should I say, he rescued me on Dec. 3, 2016. From the initial onsite visit, to the day I met the foster family, Kim from Pei People knew exactly what was best. I was impressed with how careful they were to make sure I deserve their trust. I was so appreciative to find an organization that cares so much. I feel they continue to play an active role in the success of this adoption. They continue to be available for consultation if I have questions about any health concerns. Follow up is always timely, and with genuine care. I live in NJ. However I am friends with Pei People rescue. And every day I read of the help and rescue of these poor neglected dogs. Plus they are always helpful if I have a question about my dog.
After losing my shar pei of 14 years I found PeiPeople.com. I explained to them the type of shar pei and personality I was hoping to find. They got back to me with 3 that would fit into my household, and suggested one of the 3 as probably the best fit. They were right, Winston is fabulous! Then later I mistakenly added another shar pei that needed rehoming, from a breeder. After 3 weeks in my home it became apparent that she and my poodle clashed. Once again PeiPeople.com came to my aid. They took this new dog from me and got her into fostering. I know, from my experience with them, that this fostered pei will get a loving home. And this winter, PeiPeople.com knows that I want to add a 2nd shar pei to my home. By having worked with them, they know me, my dogs, and my home situation. Pei People is an amazing organization! They go above and beyond helping Shar Pei's in need, never shying away from ones who are injured and neglected and even welcoming in senior dogs. They help those who often are overlooked by other rescues.
As a volunteer for Pei people and somebody involved in dog rescue for more than a decade, What I'm the most moved by is the close knit volunteer community that has been collectively built. Like a solid house it takes a solid foundation to build a group of dedicated hard working loyal volunteers . It's because of that solid foundation, Specifically I mean practicing safety, Sticking to a breed that we know well and have become experts in, Remaining a rescue that is Foster home based, not over stretching our resources, has afforded us the ability to successfully place dogs in their forever homes. With a solid financial foundation established and maintained by our founder Sue Allan, we are able to provide excellent medical care for the dogs we rescue and do not stress our volunteers beyond their financial or emotional limits as many rescues do. We support our Foster families and express our gratitude often, and find homes for their Foster dogs that THEY like, Because after all, without them none of this would be possible. I've been a volunteer for Pei People for over 4 years and words cannot express the satisfaction and joy I get from working with this group of volunteers on a daily basis. We are truly family working together for one cause!
I just adopted my 3rd shar pei from Pei People and have worked with them as an adopter and volunteer for 10 years. Highly recommended! They have beautiful dogs and are great about telling you everything (good and bad) they know about each dog.
Pei People are just my kind of people! There is no other breed quite like Shar Pei - with their devotion, loyalty, shenanigans - and, most often, high maintenance care. I fostered "Rocky" for 6 months, when i got him his skin was a MESS, barely any hair, and needs daily medicated baths to help him heal. he was also blind. but oh what a sweetie!!! he melted every time you would pet him and loved being talked to. i can't imagine the environment he was in before Pei People rescued him. i knew in 1 look that i had to foster him. all his medical was taken care of; we supplied a warm, safe, loving house complete with yummy food and 2 shar pei siblings to play with. we got him a baby pool to sit in during his medicated baths (the med shampoo had to sit for 10 minutes before being washed off), slowly his hair started to grow back. then he had to have his eyes done and then came the cone...even tho we never moved a thing in the house being blind he still ran into walls. so back to the Dr. to have the stitches redone and some crazy headgear! finally the stitches came out and even tho he remained blind he could still run through the house and out the dog door and come back in without running into things...remarkable! Then came the news he had found his forever home...and in Hilton Head Island of all places! so his flight was booked and we said our sad good byes and he jetted off. One of the best yet bittersweet experiences EVER, i would definitely foster again.
I have also volunteered and been a doggy taxi picking up a dog from a pound and transporting to the vet who would check them out and board them until a foster was found.
Another way i like to help is by listing Pei People as my donor recipient when i sell things on eBay; it's a small way to show support and help.
I live in Northern California, which is further out than Pei People usually gets involved. My mom saw the picture of this dog in San Jose California shelter. She looked very stressed not a whole lot of fur. So we volunteered to foster this dog Shakira until we could find her a good home. She was amazingly good dog and fit into my life like she was meant to be with me. So the day before her first visit to go see a lady who is interested in adoption. I decided to keep her. I called to let Pei People know about this. And they could not have been more excited about her staying with me. They believe like I do sometimes pets come into your life in strange ways. But you can usually tell if it is meant to be if you just listen to the animal. I will always be extremely grateful to all of the people involved in helping this amazing breed. My family has owned Shar-Pei for many years and helped with Shar-Pei rescue. We know the work that is involved in successfully placing animals. Pei People Rescue has an amazing group of volunteers and staff. That rescue a lot of beautiful dogs . Thank you so much for my Princess Buttercup. I have adopted and fostered multiple dogs from this rescue, and I can’t say enough the amount of dedication and hard work everyone puts into the rescue. They really are awesome and rock big time! Though they are from west coast to Nevada, AZ and Colorado, all work and rescued from these regions are just above 5 stars!! I remember our first foster to adopt experience, one of their volunteers drove from LA to SF to deliver our Primo. They decided to do a little vacation up north and swing by us! And if it didn’t workout, they could pick him up on the way back. Super well-planned and organized! On many occasions, I would pledge and forgot to donate. But it’s always great for them to remind me! On top of that, thank you post cards are always arrived!! I whole hearted trust this organization and believe in the work they do. They have always gone above and beyond in my experience to ensure the wellness of their dogs, safety of adopters, and ensure it’s a match. I just can’t thank them enough for the work they do to reduce these high maintenance breed!

Have helped foster/adopt many dogs and even a fundraiser for this group. They are the real deal. Monies go towards SAVING dogs, not administrative costs. The volunteers are like no others I have ever met with hearts as big as the animals they save!
I owned my own Shar Pei before learning about Pei People. I contacted them asking how I could help other dogs. At first I just wanted to help transport but shortly thereafter I started fostering for them. I've been volunteering/fostering for them for over 5 years now. I've also adopted a dog through them. My experiences with Pei People have always been positive. I appreciate how responsive they are regarding any questions/concerns I've had. I think they are a great organization and I love volunteering for them. They do whatever they can to help as many dogs as they can and I appreciate their commitment. I have every intention of adopting again through them in the future.
Pei People Shar Pei Rescue does great work! They have wonderful volunteers to rescue and take good care of dogs until the dogs are ready for adoption. They also evaluate and share temperament of the dogs to make sure the adoption is a success for dogs and human. My husband and I have adopted two dogs from Pei People in the past 5 years. We have owned and raised Shar Pei for the past 25 years and discovered Pei People about 5 years ago after losing the last of the dogs we raised. After meeting the founders of Pei People and seeing the work they were doing we knew this was an organization we wanted to support. We have adopted from them, volunteered when we are able and have donated to their rescue efforts as they have continued to grow and expand the area that they cover. Since this is a volunteer based organization we see that our contributions really make a difference and go the care that these abandoned dogs are in need of. It has been a rewarding experience for us as we see the great success stories Pei People has had as these dogs make their way to their forever homes.
I can't say enough good things about Pei People. They have a group of volunteers that are dedicated and care so much about helping this breed. I have adopted a dog from them and their vetting process is very detailed, they want the best homes possible for the dogs who often have not had best care.

We were looking to rescue a Chinese Shar Pei and found Pei People through an internet search. From my first interaction with Pei People, I was hooked on this organization. The volunteer operated with full disclosure regarding a dog we were looking to potentially adopt. We adopted a dog from Pei People and the process was friendly and they were very interested in helping us find the right dog for our needs. We loved our interaction so much we became volunteers ourselves and have met many wonderful people and Chinese Shar ei through this organization.
