I've been closely involved with PSBI for more than a decade, and have watched this fine organization serve the needs of disadvantaged children/families abroad for many years. In 2012, I traveled to Vietnam/Cambodia with members of PSBI. During our trip, we visited several schools/orphanages, with one in particular serving handicapped children literally discarded by the people of Vietnam. As we toured the facility where the youngest infants were crammed into cribs, we saw a volunteer aid worker bandaging the hands and feet of several babies. When asked about this, the reply; "at night, large rats come in through the open windows and chew on their fleshy fingers and toes." What did PSBI do when they learned about this? They marshaled their high school leadership students who then worked in collaboration with PSBI to fund screens for the doors and windows protecting the children from further injury. This is just one small example of the myriad services PSBI provides in caring for the needs of the disadvantaged, while promoting the vision of Pearl Buck in teaching culture sensitivity to those who have. This organization deserves recognition and support in order to continue to help those in need, and I'm proud to play a very small part in their aide to others. The attached photo doesn't begin to demonstrate the standard of living of children in so many parts of the world, including those we visited in Cambodia. PSBI is making a difference.
30 plus years ago my husband and I were trying to decide how to change our Christmas giving to each other .. we had everything we wanted and instead of trying to "just come up with a gift" for each other we wanted to do something for someone else that would really impact their life. We started researching and my husband recalled his time in the service in Korea and the terrible plight of the Amerasian children there when we came across the Pearl S. Buck Foundation as it was called then. So we decided to make sponsoring a child our Christmas gift to each other. We did that for 12 years or so and then after he died I continued as a Champion of Children and made annual donations in his memory. I still do carry on and know what a difference it has made through the years for the children recipients.
Thank you for taking the time to write this review and to share details of your 30 plus years of compassionate donations to children in need through Pearl S. Buck International. You and your late husband have made an enormous difference. We appreciate you.
For nine years I have participated as a docent and presenter for Pearl S Buck International. I was very well trained to be a docent, giving guided tours as a volunteer for these eight years. The manual very well described the artifacts in Pearl S Buck Historic House and further help was given by having the opportunity to 'shadow' five other well qualified docents. Then the expertise of the Curator of the house was provided in a walk through. Such good preparation led me to be a happy well-prepared docent.
Book groups meet reading books written by or about Ms. Buck. A group also meets monthly to discuss the short stories Ms. Buck has written. In addition the Writing Center holds seminars to open the door for aspiring writers to pursue the art of writing.
PSBI also leads tours to Asia to see the Pearl S Buck sites in China and visits to places like the Philippines to see the work of affiliated child care agencies. The opportunity is also available to be a host family to young people from China touring the United States, sharing for a week life experiences.
I have participated in all these activities and found them to be richly rewarding. PSBI knows how to treat volunteers sharing valuable experiences with them and making available a rich cultural experience to the public. Edgar Roosa
Thank you for your detailed review, which shares several of the rich opportunities and activities of Pearl S. Buck International. Thank you also for the generous donation of your time, talents, and efforts as a volunteer. You have made a difference. We appreciate you.
I've been giving monthly support to 1-3 children since 1965 Christmas. Letters back and forth are wonderful. The few dollars each month can totally change the child's life and help the entire family! Administration fees are very low. I am now donating to general emergency area so no letters but we get emails telling how our money influenced who and how many. Wonderful organization. Only organization I've never stopped supporting! Donna Dawson, 404 West Day Street, Paullina, Iowa 51046
Thank you for your review. Thank you also for your compassionate generosity in sponsoring children through the Sponsor a Child program since 1965 ... and now donating as a Champion for Children to the vital emergency humanitarian work we do. You have made a difference. We appreciate you.
I have been sponsoring two children through Pearl S. Buck International and contributing to some of its life-saving projects for many years. I have the greatest admiration for the outstanding work of Pearl S. Buck and her legacy, and I congratulate her Foundation for carrying on her ideals to perfection.

I am so proud to be a volunteer and a supporter of Pearl S Buck International. to be able to give a child hope and a chance to better them selves measns so much to us (my husband Mark and myself).
The entire staff put their whole heart and soul in helping children get a start in life and to help achieve their dreams.
I was honored when asked to manage and be a buyer for the gift shop. The best way I can help Pearl S. Buck International is by helping make the gift shop successful.

Thank you for your review ... and for your generous volunteer service and child sponsorship. The products you have chosen and which are so beautifully displayed in the gift shop are very popular with the visitors to the Pearl S. Buck House. You have made a difference. We appreciate you.
I have been a volunteer here at Pearl S. Buck International for more than 12 years. I enjoy meeting the visitors and other volunteers who come to the gift shop and for tours. It means so much to know that I am helping to share and promote the legacy of Pearl S. Buck, a truly amazing woman.

I have volunteered at the PSB Foundation (now Pearl S. Buck International) since 1977. I am a tour docent, served as president of the Volunteer Association, and am an emeritus member of the Board of Directors (Secretary, for 4 years).
I receive financial reports that show positive results that my donations of time & money make a huge difference in the lives and education of the children & families PSBI supports in our Asian countries.
Pearl Buck's legacy of diversity and education continues to live through Pearl S. Buck International.
Thank you for your review ... and for the volunteer service, leadership, and donations you have contributed to Pearl S. Buck International through the years. You have made an important difference. We appreciate you.
Pearl Buck is an incredible organization dedicated to improving the lives of children and families. Because of their great work, we were able to adopt our son from Russia 22 years ago. We are forever in their debt and know many other children and families are too!
Thank you for your endorsement ... and for sharing how your life and the life of your son was changed through the work of Pearl S. Buck International.
I have been involved with PSBI for 30 years and watched sponsor children grow into adulthood and to be productive members of society.
The organization is small and thus sponsors get personally to know staff, who while being 'employees' are really concerned and involed in the lives of the children and sponsors.
Thank you for your review ... and for sharing the story of your involvement with Pearl S. Buck International. We appreciate you.
Becoming a sponsor of children through Pearl S buck opened my eyes to the wonderful children of the Philippines. This last February we traveled as a group there and we not only able to meet them, but also visited their homes and families. Today I sponsor three children and look forward to my next trip.
Thank you for your review, your touching picture, and for sharing the story of your involvement with Pearl S. Buck International as a child sponsor of multiple children. You have made a difference. We appreciate you.
We have been sponsoring children through Pearl Buck International, Inc since 1988, one year after adopting our first child from South Korea. We believe in the mission and success and commitment of the organization to children and their families all over the world. Our part has been small but we know that Pearl Buck is making a huge difference in the lives of so many children. Thank you, Pearl Buck International!
Thank you for your endorsement ... and for sharing the story of your involvement as a child sponsor for so many years. You have made a difference. We appreciate you.
This charity goes the extra step to allow sponsors to help their child (or children). That personal touch makes a difference to the child and sponsor. It is hugely important to me that I can go above and beyond sponsorship and provide extra help to my child, along with frequent communication.
Thank you for your endorsement ... and for sharing the story of your involvement as a child sponsor. You have made an important difference. We appreciate you.
I WAS FORTUNATE TO HAVE LIVED AND WORKED IN THE PHILIPPINES FOR ELEVEN YEARS, AND AS SUCH, SAW FIRST HAND THE FABULOUS JOB PEARL BUCK WAS DOING TO HELP EDUCATE AND FURTHER SUPPORT(CLOTHING, FOOD) THE CHILDREN, MOSTLY AMERASIAN, OF THE AREA I LIVED. IT WAS DIFFICULT FOR THESE LIGHT-SKINNED CHILDREN TO LIVE A NORMAL CHILDHOOD DUE TO THEM BEING HARASSED AND ABUSED BY THEIR FELLOW PILIPINO PLAYMATES. IN THE ENVIRONMENT OF PEARL BUCK THEY WERE TREATED AS EQUALS, AND THE OTHER CHILDREN LEARNED TO ACCEPT THEM. THESE CHILDREN WOULD HAVE A VERY DIFFICULT TIME GROWING UP HAD IT NOT BEEN FOR PEARL BUCK'S ORGANIZATION.
Thank you for your endorsement ... and for sharing this touching story of the difference Pearl S. Buck International has made in the lives of Filipino children. We appreciate you.
We loving being able to help our sponsor child. Pearl S Buck International gives us a safe and trusted way to help others. Thanks
Thank you for taking the time to provide an endorsement ... and to share what sponsoring a child means to you. We appreciate you.
I am inspired by the work of Pearl S. Buck International on a daily basis. Pearl Buck was a visionary who was always ahead of her time and the legacy she left continues to be followed by the work of the organization. I would encourage everyone to visit the site, tour the house and learn more about one truly inspiring woman.
Thank you for your review ... and for sharing the story of your admiration for Pearl S. Buck and Pearl S. Buck International. We appreciate you.
As a volunteer at Pearl S. Buck International, I am impressed on a daily basis by the work that is done by the organization and all the dedicated professionals who work there. It is an honor to be associated with them and serve as a volunteer. What a remarkable organization started by a truly remarkable woman.
PSBI continues to fulfill Ms. Buck's legacy by providing support for children adopted through Welcome House (and their parents), sponsorship of children in need, and educational programs. Funding continues to be a major need. Additional stable funding sources would be beneficial.
I visited the Pearl S Buck’s house in Pennsylvania and was struck by the passion she had for the plight of children around the world. Through her novels she gave a voice to millions of peasants in China and reminded readers of their humanity. The volunteers at the house impressed upon the visitors the importance of preserving the history and legacy of Pearl S Buck. This legacy continues through her charitable foundation, Pearl S Buck International, which helps children across Eastern Asia get access to vital services like education.
Thank you for your endorsement ... and for sharing your story of what touched you when you toured the Pearl S. Buck House and what matters to you about what Pearl S. Buck International does.
I visited PSB estate in 2015 and was amazed by how beautiful her house is, as a writer, she has an extensive collection of first edition books! All the people I have encountered at PSB are extremely warm and kind, even though I could only volunteer remotely, they would still welcome me to as many discussions as possible. I told Janet Mintzer I grew up in Suzhou, Anhui, where PSB lived for a few years, Janet sent me a photo she took of the PSB museum in China! People who have heard of PSB probably only know her as a writer, a Pulitzer prize winner, what they don't know is that there is a philanthropic organization under her name fighting better lives for children less fortunate around the world. It is difficult to run a nonprofit and raise the awareness of its mission and vision, but I believe PSB is continuously improving and achieving its goals.
As a volunteer here, I find inspiration every day from the people who visit, work and volunteer here as well as from the story of Pearl Buck and the work that she did to fight injustice around the world and at home. She was a woman ahead of her time and her work continues here at Pearl S. Buck International.
I have nothing but good things to say about Pearl S. Buck International. I have visited several times, and I am always impressed by the organization's dedication to the memory of Pearl S. Buck, to keeping her words and values alive. In continuing Pearl's mission of helping the underprivileged children of the world, they are truly doing their part to make this world a better and more humane place for all of us. I am sponsoring a child in a Vietnamese orphanage, and it brings me joy to see her flourish under the program.
