Nonprofit Overview

Mission: Our mission is to prevent the spread of animal-to-human disease through research, education, ongoing action and community engagement.

Target demographics: animals,humans

Direct beneficiaries per year: People and pets

Geographic areas served: Peru

Programs: PAZ embraces the concept of One Health, the idea that disease is connected, and rarely affects just one species alone. Currently, we are working in Peru, treating and managing patients who suffer epilepsy from cysticercosis, a disease caused by the pork tapeworm. We are also working on a grant from the Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons, conducting research on the most common reasons people who live in resource-poor settings will bring their animals to a veterinarian. Products in the pipeline include a study on contamination of the food chain secondary to mining runoff, and setting up a program with Peruvian veterinary students to increase their clinical skills and awareness of zoonotic disease.

The PAZ team goes above and beyond what you see in a typical NGO. They take into consideration the sustainablity of their work by involving locals and including cultural sensitivity that comes with working abroad.

Many communities have recieved help from organizations in infrastructure, which while very important needs to be accompanied by education and involvement in local groups that will keep progressing, encouraging, and monitoring permanent changes.

The teams focus is a better future and they have considered the big picture. Healthier animals =Healthier communities in Peru and in addtion to this such model systems will help create reference for behavior change that can be brought back and used in the United States.

You can't go wrong supporting them.

PAZ is meeting a need that is not being served by other non-profits. PAZ has put together an amazing team of people with professional experience and volunteers. Dafne and Richard are passionate about the work they are leading, and they have the know-how to carry through on their dreams.

PAZ is working to educate people about zoonotic diseases (diseases that pass between animals and humans), and eventually to prevent those diseases from occurring. The more I learn about zoonotic diseases, the more convinced I become that this work is crucial for the survival of both animals and humans.

I feel like my donations go further with PAZ than they would with other non-profits. I know I am doing good in the world when I give to PAZ!
