PayPal received the donations raised on GoFundMe then sent the money elsewhere on a check with no address or EIN to identify who was to be paid. A complaint is on file with Oregon and is being investigated. I am asking the donors to go to their banks and request a chargeback. Wells Fargo bank is where the check was deposited and my nonprofit does not bank with Wells Fargo. PayPal states clearly that if you do not sign up with their giving fund, they will send the money raised to whoever they want. I was declined even after providing all IRS documents, banking information. I am currently fighting to get the donors money back to them or the money for the nonprofit. PayPal Giving Fund is a fraud.
Signing up with this service seemed like a win-win for our non-profit to use to collect online donations, and it's connected to Pay Pal which many trust. BUT, instead it has been a nightmare as it was confusing and difficult to initially setup, then even more trouble to get answers to simple questions which can only be done via email. On top of that, no activity log of who donated is available so don't receive donor names and contact info, and in fact, until they disburse the funds the following month there is no way of even knowing if any donations have been collected during the current month. Then finally, the phone number for their customer service in the disbursement confirmation does not work! Sorry but this leaves much to be desired. Pay Pal Giving Fund may be a free service but you get what you pay for! Our non-profit will stick with our business PayPal account if someone wants to donate and we will pay the 2.2% plus 30 cents per transaction - a very small price to pay for piece of mind so we don't waste so much time on this and get back to our charitable work. Thanks PayPal Giving Fund BUT NO THANKS!!!
