We saw our forever dog at Petsmart off of 281. About a week later he came to live with us. The adoption process is in depth and lengthy; however, I actually can appreciate this because this organization really puts the dog's needs first. We submitted the application. The organization verified our current pet's medical history by confirming with the veterinarian's office that everyone was up to date on their vaccines and on preventative heart worm medicine.
Once we passed that verification, the foster dad came over with the rescue dog to look at our backyard and house. He watched how the rescue animal interacted our current animals. Everything went well and we got to keep our pet this day. We paid the $300 adoption fee, signed the rest of the adoption paperwork and that was it.
From day one I was in contact with Sharal and the foster parents via text and email. They let me know where they were at during the verification process and even sent me all of the photos they had of our dog so we could have those on file. Franklin (we changed his name to Mickey) is the sweetest boy. He came to us in such a calm state without any aggression issues. The foster parents really took amazing care of him.
I am so thankful that this organization takes the extra time to find the right homes for these beautiful animals. Just some background on our Mickey, he lost some of his litter mates to Parvo. He was initially malnourished, had a big belly of worms and contracted parvo. When I saw him for adoption I would have never guessed that he was so sick. Pause for Paws and Mickey's foster parents did an amazing job at providing him with the care that he needed to get healthy and be adopted. We love him so much.
Unfortunately it is close to impossible to be approved by this shelter.
Sadly as others have mentioned, it makes me see why others might consider buying from a breeder. I wish I had not invested the time and hope in trying to adopt from them.
I agree with the other poster. We tried to adopt a dog from this group and it seems near impossible unless you have someone that can stay home 24/7 and lots of land. Their expectations are impossible to achieve. Their communication is also very poor, they just didn't show up for our home visit and when we called they took several days to respond. It's frustrating when you want to rescue an animal only to jump through hoops—I'm sure this group has lead people to buy from breeders.
