Mission: Each year at Columbus Children''s Hospital approximately 140 children are diagnosed with cancer. Many other children are diagnosed with blood disorders that require intense treatments and hospital stays. On an average, 20 patients a day are admitted to the Hematology/Oncology unit. Most stays are approximately 4 days, yet others may be required to stay as long as 4 months depending on their diagnosis and care. Each day that these children are hospitalized, whether inpatient or outpatient, their parents are required to pay for parking, meals and any other necessary expense not considered medical. Many parents do not even have the luxury of staying with their children due to lack of transportation and/or the ability to pay for these extended expenses. Our mission is to make things just a bit easier for these families. If your contribution paid for just one cab ride to and from the hospital, you would have provided a gift that is immeasurable, for you would have given a child time with his or her parent during a difficult time. If your donation paid for a meal of a parent or family member staying with the child, you would have perhaps taken away the concern that they might have to choose between eating and paying for parking. If your donation paid for an outstanding utility, a late mortgage or purchased groceries for an already overwrought and financially strained family, you would have given them the chance to sit with their child and enjoy the moment, not dwell on what they need to do to survive tomorrow. If your donation paid for a video or a magazine subscription for the Hematology clinic, you would have provided a much-needed distraction from an all-consuming treatment and disease. If . . .
