We are new to the Charlotte area and reached out to PAK pretty quickly. They immediately put us in touch with a community of people going through similar things and it has helped us out tremendously. They put together events for the parents, for the kids, and for local organizations that help with allergy sufferers. I'm so happy to have them here in Charlotte!
We’ve been PAK members for 9 years! PAK has been a vital source of education and support for our family in navigating our child’s food allergy!! PAK continues to create and sustain a positive community for families dealing with food allergies!
PAK provides wonderful support to families with food allergies. From information to events, this nonprofit is a gem in the Charlotte community.
I love this organization. My only regret is not knowing about them sooner. Being a parent of a child with severe food allergies can be scary, isolating, frustrating and just plain sad at times. This group gives great tips, shares stories and uplifts in times of need. My goal is to share this organization with as many people as possible, knowing we are not in this alone.
I am new to food allergy world, and PAK has been so helpful already! Wonderful events, great information, and a welcoming community!
PAK helped me tremendously when I thought I was alone in the crazy world of multiple food allergies. There are people to talk to, share experiences, share frustrations, and share accomplishments. The programs for the kids show many of the kids that others are the same as them and they are not so isolated.
I found PAK almost 8 years ago when my son was diagnosed with food allergies. The support, wisedom, sharing and information I received was invaluable. PAK leaders provide the guidance a family would need at any stage of dealing with food allergies. Members are supportive and encouraging. It’s a great community.
One of the best things I ever did when both my kids were diagnosed with food allergies at a young age was join -parents allergic kids -the local chapter in Charlotte North Carolina. This welcoming group not only made me feel more comfortable knowing others were going through the same thing, but they also helped to educate me by bringing in speakers such as doctors and other researchers who are leading the way in food allergy research. I have learned so much by being a part of this group for so many years and feel fortunate to have had support back in those early scary days.
PAK (Parents of Allergic Kids) has been a true blessing in my family's life. We did not learn about PAK until many years after my daughter's diagnosis, and I only wish that I had discovered it sooner. The support of its members has been invaluable as we navigate all things food allergy-related - restaurants, school, reading food labels, food-based social situations, etc. I have made great friendships and met some amazing people in PAK. I can not say enough good things about this organization!
This group has been a great support network for me as I navigate the world of food allergies! A great local resource with dedicated members.
I moved to The Charlotte area 9 years ago with my husband, 4 young children and 2 of them had life threatening allergies. I didn't know enough. I needed to find out how to navigate life from restaurants, to doctors, to testing and schools, Birthday parties and sports teams, to advocating and 504's and how to recognize and react to ingestion of an allergen. When your child is diagnosed you sit in a sterile office, you are given a laundry list of allergens and a hand out on an epinephrine device. It is completely overwhelming.
What did this group give to me? It trained me for saving my daughter's life. Parents shared symptoms of anaphylaxis, stories of ambulance rides and needing to use an epi or auvi q. When my daughter described "bugs in her mouth" and "ears burning" and said "please don't let me die" I knew the epi was needed. Now. The stories shared gave me the strength to react quickly, administer medication and get to the ER. There are no words to say thank you enough. Then this group continued to support by allowing other children from the group to write her letters and send her a care package. Letting her know others understood what she was feeling was so powerful.
As the parent of an allergic child, this group has helped me tremendously with support and knowledge. I'd be lost without it.
Pak has been a wonderful resource for my family when we relocated to Charlotte . A huge support for me and my children who both have severe food allergies . They really do so much for the local food allergy community❤️
I live in eastern NC & PAK has been a wonderful resource for our family. I joined the FB group when we were considering a trip to Charlotte for a Hornets game last December & I received great response to my questions. Also, my son was able to attend Camp ROAR this summer- another great experience! The families & staff we met were wonderful & also helped with pre-planning our stay (hotel, restaurant & safety info). Valuable, friendly resource!!! Thanks PAK!!
This group was an amazing source of information and community when I moved to the area. And I love how the group is evolving as our kids age!
I have two grandsons with severe food allergies. PAK has helped my daughter many times as she navigates through the confusing world of allergens, cross contamination, and labeling. We have found this non profit to be very helpful!
Very useful information and supportive community! I have been to their events and they are very informative.
We moved to Charlotte 1 year ago with our 2 toddler sons who both have severe food allergies. Of course with any big move there is uncertainty, but we knew about PAK before we left. We were excited to have a local community for our family's food allergies. Since moving here we have been so impressed by the leaders of PAK, the events and community involvement, and the extremely active, supportive, knowledgeable online community. It's an invaluable resource in so many ways!
