The ladies at Papayago are very caring, knowledgeable and understanding and helped me tremendously in my decision with my parrot. The care that they give the birds is outstanding and it is obvious they are on a mission of love to help birds and their people~

My first volunteer experience here was great and fun! They are very organized, tech savvy, involved in the community, and every bird has a clean cage and gets high quality pellets as well as fresh foods of course. The Assistant Director Megan is very friendly. Everyone here has a real passion for correct, healthy bird care.

I am so grateful for Papayago Rescue House. I adopted my first Papayago bird two years ago. My second Papayago bird came home this summer. Both times, the Papayago staff worked with my family and the birds to figure out a great fit. I love my birds, and they love me! The staff and volunteers have helped me with my unique birds and their needs. I feel secure that any time I have a question or need help, Papayago will support me. I feel great about going out of town knowing that my birds are in the capable hands of people who know and love them. Papayago has created a caring community for bird people. As a volunteer, I feel valued and respected. Papayago is always a cheerful, happy place to be.

I adopted a fantastic Indian ringneck parakeet from Papayago a year ago. Our adoption process helped match our family with the right bird for us (and the right family for her). She has been a joy, and when she's not, we turn to Papayago for advice and support to get us through the moment or season. When we adopted our pet, we were reassured because of the support, and because of the services such as boarding that ensured our bird was going to keep getting the care she needed. The Papayago folks show great love and support for the birds and the people! Our family has enjoyed getting involved with volunteering and interacting with the special birds who don't live in our house.

Papayago Rescue House is doing a great job of helping parrots who need homes, people who are interested in parrots, and people with parrots. My wife and I board our macaw there two or three times a year and I’ve helped them with some education and fundraising some. And we donate since we believe in their cause and quality.
Note that I’ve helped other rescues and served on the board at another parrot rescue for several years prior to it closing due to owner retirement. I’ve also been president of the local parrot club.

I have been involved with Papayago Rescue House for about 5 years now and my administration for them still continues to grow.

There are not many rescues who put as many hours of research in as the PRH do in order to better the physical, mental and emotional health, not just of the birds in their care but those living in homes everywhere.

The birds at Papayago are given the best of diets, opportunities to make decisions for themselves, and lots of love. They are not turned away or looked down upon because they are sick or have severe behavioral issues. Those birds are given the same respect and love that the others get.

One of my own birds had a medical emergency earlier this year. It was late in the evening and he needed emergency intervention so I took him to Papayago. They saved his life. And as a testament to what a great rescue Papayago is, he is still there with them now because in being there he is the happiest I have ever seen him.

Papayago Rescue house is truly committed to the care and welfare of parrots and people.

Earlier this week I went to visit Papayago's and was so impressed. The reason for my visit was to evaluate their set up, the cleanness of their building, and how their birds looked and acted. Several people were busy cleaning cages, floors, etc., playing with birds, and generally feeding and watering. These volunteers and staff really get to know the birds and their circumstances, and genuinely care and love the birds - this is very noticeable. I went to see if I wanted to place my birds, in the future, when I am gone or unable to care for them myself anymore. So impressed!!!

Being a Pharma Rep in the Animal Health Industry, I have worked wIth numerous animal rescues, and Papayago has impressed me the most! The PRH team gives you insight about caring for your fids. They educate on chop (foods), health, DIY toys, and body language/behavior. The team helps you think outside the box and remind you of the simple things. Their love is astronomical. And, being a PRH parent makes you love them the same.

I had a bad first bird experience 20 yrs ago. I bought a baby, she bonded with another and developed behavioral issues that forced me to re-home her. Flash forward to a year ago when I call Papayago and they tell me how much MORE we know about parrots now and how they can help me find the right match. So they did. Was it happily ever after? Not at all. Precious has 17 years of being locked in a cage way too small for an amazon, learned biting as a fast no, and over bonds causing all kinds of aggression issues. Did Papayago tell me to deal with it, all birds bite, and to man up? Nope. They answered my calls, they recommended a behavior specialist, they provided support in all ways emotional and intellectual so that I could help both myself and my new friend. We are now 8 months together and can go on hikes (safely in a backpack), get head pets without biting, and have very few screaming sessions now along with an out of cage lifestyle. It is 100% thanks to their support AFTER adoption that has made this a success story. Of course they were also brilliant at knowing that I Precious picked ME as they take the time to understand each birds personality but I attribute our continued success to their after-adoption commitment and care. It hasn’t been easy reconditioning an abused and highly intelligent creature but, because of them, it’s getting there! I’m looking forward to DECADES of loving companionship now instead of another failure at parrot ownership thanks to them! ❤️❤️

My dear 16 year old jenday Portillo has been dealing with feather plucking and lots of unknown anxiety for months. I was devastated until PRH , Maria and her team offer their help. I brought Portillo there for a healing stay. After 10 days of staying at PRH, Portillo came back home doing much better, he even is eating healthy pellets now ,and his anxiety levels are way down. They gave me a start plan until we get the tests results back, tests that they did in there also. I know this will take probably a while to get him healed, but I do not feel alone in this any more! I appreciate what they have done for Portillo and for me also. Thankful also because they shared and continue sharing their knowledge, thankful because they have lots of patience to answer my so many questions. Thankful for helping me with this hard process, and for taking good care of Portillo! I know that they are very busy not only helping me, but also many adoptive parents and many lovely birdies at the rescue house. And they do it just for the love of the birdies. I appreciate that very much. They have an holistic approach for everything, they are always investigating new approaches and sharing their knowledge with bird owners. When I arrived to the PRH for the first time, I felt the love and caring for these wonderful feathered creatures ! I knew my Portillo was in good hands, and I do not say this with almost anybody. Maria , Briana and all the staff there are angels!!! God bless them!!! Be sure that I will support PRH as much as I can.

Papayago Rescue House has dedicated their lives to helping give birds a better future. They are very knowledgeable, and take the extra steps to not only help the birds they rescue, but also help families find the perfect match to adopt.
PRH sees to it that the birds get the medical care they need, nutritious food, and lots of love.
We have adopted 3 birds from PRH. Our bird Zoey came to PRH a few years ago, her previous owner had passed away, so Zoey had became distraught and started mutilating her chest. After a few months at Papayago, Zoey started to heal, physically and emotionally.
We adopted Zoey about a year ago.
Zoey and I are very grateful for PRH, they helped her so much, and because of them, we now have Zoey, Baby Girl and Lefty as part of our family.
Our flock: Baby Girl, Lefty and Zoey.

I met the Papayagos Rescue House, Inc. through a friend . I would go often with her and was just so amazed on how many unwanted birds they had , wether the bird was unwanted or the owners fell on hard times or even passed away , the Rescue made sure to take them in and work on rehabilitating them if they needed it to find the perfect home with another person ! Finally after a year or so I decided to adopt a Grey , I already have 1 and thought she needed a friend so the Rescue had me visit with the bird until they we’re sure the bird was a perfect match and well that’s what’s so special about Papayagos, unless they know the bird is a perfect fit they will not let them be adopted ! They love those birds so much and they just want to make sure the bird will be happy with their new flock ! This is Sir Livingston that I adopted over a month ago and I’m just so in love with this old man ! Well he is about 35 yrs old but he has taken my heart ❤️

I came to Papayago Rescue House not really knowing what I was looking for. I knew I wanted to adopt a bird, but other than that, I was along for the ride! The owners of this rescue instantly knew based on my application who would be a good fit! I got to meet many lovely birds, but ended up falling for the first one they introduced me to. Papayago has an incredibly responsible adoption process that I as an exotic animal keeper wished every rescue could apply. I had several visits with my birdie soulmate as well as a call to ensure my home was safe and secure for a new family member who could live 20+ more years. Prince Harry, as he is called, has been a light in my life now for almost two years, and Papayago has been there every step of the way to answer questions and gawk over cute photos I take. This place is top notch, THE BIRD RESCUE of Georgia. They don't just want to give birds homes, they want to do it right!

I inherited a cockatiel after my grandmother died. On my grandmothers death bed she literally asked to make sure Pat was taken care of. I knew nothing about birds and after having her a few days I knew I was in over my head. She had an infection that would come and go and we couldn’t find any vets who could help us at a reasonable price.

Finally I reached out to FB for help and someone recommended Papayago. I called them and they were more than willing to help. I surrendered her over to them, crying the whole time! But they made it easy, told me I could get her back after they got the ‘infection’ under control and helped her diet. Unfortunately, they found cancer but they have been 10000% amazing in getting her healthy again. I was emailed with updates constantly and they even gave me the option to take her back once healed. I love her and wish I could continue to care for her but I know that there is a real bird lover out there who can take care of her better so I decided to let them find her a good home. And they sure did!

This rescue is amazing!! There is literally no other way I can put it!! Thus went above and beyond! They saved Pats life and gave me peace of mind for her future!

The Papayago team is truly amazing. At the core, they are a parrot/bird rescue, but they are so much more. They are a community of bird folks that truly care. They work very hard to rehabilitate birds (both physically and emotionally), and find loving new homes for them whenever possible. I also board my birds there and know they're in great hands. Papayago also does lots of education, both formal and informal. I have a family member who just received a budgie and has no training about how to care for the little girl. Just today, I asked Papayago for help, and they provided several toy recommendations, food recommendations, cage recommendations, supplemental veggie powder, websites, FB groups, Instagram page, and all sorts of information for me to help the family provide a better home for this new baby girl. I was in grateful tears. Papayago is a TREMENDOUS asset to the bird community in the Atlanta metro area. So grateful.

I help feed and care for the birds in residence at Papayago Rescue House as a “Kitchen Mom”. Over the last year I have learned a lot about nutrition and enrichment for the birds at the rescue and my flock at home.

They are so caring and loving with the birds in their care and make me feel like part of the family.

As they continue educate me and the public I hope they are able to prosper and grow in positive ways that benefit these lovely creatures and their environment.

Thank you Papayago for all that you do!

Such a great place with a real heart for helping birds! I started volunteering there about a month ago and have been extremely impressed with the care, enrichment, and nutrition they provide the birds! Each animals’ individual personality and special needs are considered here... both physical and mental... they truly love these animals and want the best for them AND the people that walk through their doors to find a pet that is a match.

I believe they truly consider all factors of the adoptive “parronts” lifestyle and help them discover if a bird is the right pet and which one is the best fit for them and their family.

If you are looking to have someone just hand you a bird... don’t come here. They are hands on and supportive and very protective of the animals and you! There will be an application, visits with the bird, a home visit, and lifelong support after the adoption which is standard with a good rescue from my understanding.

I would be happy to have my own parrot live here if I became ill or passed away. I know he would be looked after with love and great care.

This non-profit does so much for parrots in need and deserves all the support it can get. The organizers and volunteers are wonderful, and the birds in their care get so much love, attention, and much needed treatment from an avian vet, which they rely on donations to cover. I love following them on Facebook and getting the updates on the sweet birds in their care.

Our family has learned so much from the volunteers of this non profit. They love each of those birds as their own, providing the best love, care and meeting nutritional needs that are so varied and challenging to adapt surrenders that have never had such care to. We will continue to seek out ways to help this group because we know that they will continue to serve these beautiful creatures with dignity and grace.

We are currently fostering 3 budgies, and feel like their knowledge and support is vital to our ability to best care for this sweet birdies.

I am grateful for a bird rescue in our area, and for the many services they offer from classes to answering all my questions, even if not related to foster birds. Their love and commitment to birds is contagious.

Papaygo Rescue House takes great care in placing their birds. They took a lot of time with us and introducing us to the birds they thought might fit our family and lifestyle. It took a few months to have a bird pick us and then the care of Papaygo with home visits and education for us to make sure we were ready for Nemo was top notch! The education and information and inclusion in the Papaygo family after adoption is top notch!

I am both a customer and a volunteer at this excellent parrot & bird rescue. Everyone here is 100% professional. More importantly, the level of care and thought they put into their care for all of the birds is readily apparent: the birds are happy, healthy and thriving in their clean and large enclosures while waiting for a loving family or individual to adopt them.
The birds who are boarded here while their owners are away receive lots of attention and photos are sent to the owners to let them know how their feathered ones are doing. I am so grateful for Papayago!

I have both worked and volunteered with a variety of rescues over the years and Papayago stands out at the top of the list of rescues that I respect and can stand behind 100%. There is no ego - which is so prevalent in the rescue community- at Papayago, everything is about the birds first. Their safety, comfort, health, emotional and physical needs are met, not easy to do when you are dealing with so many very individual personalities. There are no shortcuts in the care these birds receive. And all of them, from the tiniest finch, to the largest macaw are shown respect, love and appreciation and that allows them to thrive.
There is constant research going on to keep up with the latest and best advice from experts, veterinarians, etc..

The team at Papayago also cares for the people who they come in contact with. Bird owners who are experiencing difficulties in caring for their birds are offered assistance, adopters are made to feel like they have become part of a family so that they have a place to share their concerns and their joys. Bird owners who, for whatever reason, need to surrender their birds are not made to feel like they are horrible people for doing so. Outreach is also important and efforts are made to educate people of all ages on providing the best care for and improving the relationship with their own birds.

I’ve been volunteering with Papayago Rescue House for a year and it’s truly the most rewarding experience. Helping care for and giving love to the birds of PRH is a small contribution but it fills my heart. Not only the birds but also the people of PRH are like family to me. I adopted my dove, Mumbo, from there and he brought me so much joy. PRH was there for me in so many ways when he had health concerns and when he passed away. When you adopt from them, you have their support forever.

I was looking for a friend for my umbrella cockatoo Jasper. I found the rescue house and was able to pick off of the website which friends I want to go visit. I was able to meet a few of them Maria assisted in helping me pick the one who was more willing and technically picked me. Captain Jack is a military macaw and fit in very well with my retired first sergeant husband. They get along well cap and Jack gets along well with me and with his new brother Jasper. Captain Jack is a joy to have in our home. Yes there’s times he’s loud but what do you expect from my car! He is a very well mannered bird and very loving. He loves to just walk walk walk around the house! I think the rescue for what they do to be able to rehome these birds and now I have a forever son! I appreciate the help to acclimate him our home very are very supportive in the acclamation process

We adopted Sahar in December after, weeks of trips to the rescue to spend time with her to make sure she was a good fit. She is 10 and we are her 3rd family. After a thorough home inspection and lots of time spent getting to know each other we finally brought her home. She has had some issues with ear infections and Maria and Brianna have been wonderful about taking her back to get her meds, as we were still trying to bond with her. Oral and ear twice a day was torture for us and for Sahar. We have had to send her back since for another ear infection. We are working together to make Sahar happy and healthy. I am so happy that we found these people. They are the best!!

I recently adopted an Indian Ringneck Parakeet from Papayago Rescue House. I have experience only with small birds (budgies and cockatiels), and never thought I would bring home a ringneck when I walked into the place. Maria and Brianna knows the personality of every bird under their care, and helped me find the most suitable bird for me (I am a quiet person, live by myself in an apartment, and work a full time job... not every bird can thrive with that!). I visited several times before bringing my bird home, and was amazed by the love and work they put into their birds every time I visit. It really shows! And I am perhaps most amazed by the continued support and community for every adopted bird and their parronts. The support really helped me with the worrying and anxiety that perhaps every new parront faces, just by knowing that I will have knowledgeable and experienced people to turn to if I have any questions or concerns. This is a community that truly, truly cares about and wants the best for your birds and their human companions (you!!) =)

I had to do a project for my sociology class- do some volunteer work for a day- so I went looking around and found PHR! Bri was very professional and had so much knowledge to share on her birds- knew them each and their individual personalities. I mentioned I liked to cook and work with my hands so she let me help her make the birds food and some toys for them! It was so much fun and I volunteer with her as often as I can now.

I had so much fun and really suggest it.

We found our Turkey, a 35 year old orange winged amazon, through pet finder. This search of course led us to Papayago. From the initial contact to adoption day, everyone was very friendly and extremely knowledgeable. Before adopting Turkey, we also have a 7 year old cockatiel. Not only did they care about Turkey and his well being but they extended their love and knowledge to our beloved, Elvis. They continue their love by providing resources to help make sure your bird has a long healthy life. Love, love, love Papayago Rescue House!

My daughter just loves spending time with jade..and it's a joy when you get home you have another baby screaming for you along with your own children..I have recommended this place to many of my friends and family..

I adopted a senior nanday conure from Papayago. They took their time reviewing the application (I was a first-time bird owner) and checked out out my living space, which lets me know they care about their birds' well being. I travel often, so I board her with them regularly and she is always excited to visit her home-away-from-home. They have been great with follow up questions and any concerns I've had, and always give expert advice.

We found Papayago on Petfinder when we were ready to add to our flock. The adoption process was seamless, we filled out the adoption papers, scheduled a visit, were matched with parrots whom met our criteria, and then adopted an amazing member to our family. PRH provided a ton of knowledge with basic parrot care, set us up with a cage, and gave us all of the information they had on Gizmo. He came to us healthy, calm, and ready to adjust to home life. We feel lucky to be a part of the PRH Family and we have continued to receive support from them since adoption. If you find that a parrot is right for you, this organization will set you in the right direction with education and practical knowledge!

Papayago Rescue House is home to some of the most passionate, knowledgeable, and hardworking people I know. It's also home to birds young and old of all sizes awaiting the family that they deserve. My experience as an adopter and volunteer has been excellent. We were not in a rush to adopt, but kept our hearts open while PRH staff assisted us in learning to read the body language of the bird that was gravitating to us. We gained a new family member for our home, but also have home away from home when we visit the people and birds that make up Papayago.
