I’ve been following the historical society online for some time now, as I no longer live in the immediate area, and I throughly enjoy the pictures and articles that are posted there. I’m greatly impressed with the amount of dedication the entire board has in bringing out and preserving the history of its community! The board and especially the president, have been a huge asset to the neighborhood in securing monies through grants and fundraisers that have allowed them to start making progress in repairing much need head stones in our older cemetery’s that are in dire need of help to restore them. They also planted beautiful flowers and bushes that add so much to the landscape of these older forgotten cemeteries. This is a great way to honor the members of the community that are gone but so important to the history of Palmyra. The historical society has also been working to upgrade the living conditions in the present building the fire department uses by making the area much more comfortable for the members of the fire department. These are only a couple examples of the many improvements the society has engaged in to this date, and they are growing daily as more and more people join in to help. Certainly there are many more projects planned as the love for the community and its history are able to continue through much needed grants and gifts. Thank you to the society president Della Evans, all the board members and of course the valuable volunteers! I’m excited to see what the new year brings to the community of Palmyra Ohio!

Palmyra is a small town I lived in and grew up around. It has several cemeteries and some of my family mostly Veterans are buried there. So our projects for the cemeteries is near and dear to my heart. Looking forward to seeing what’s next moving forward.

Our President is a perfect person for the job. She is so involved and informed on our community and all that is happening around us. She moves mountains to make our tasks easier. I've never seen such determination. She is making this Historical Society a real success. We have had two major fund raisers that both went very well. They were a lot of work but worth it. We have so many ideas for community events and projects we can get involved with. We strongly support our Fire Department and hope to be able to provide a more comfy fire station for them. One piece of furniture at a time! They are so awesome and under appreciated for all they do. We certainly welcome any ideas you all may have to help make our community stronger and better. I am the Secretary of the Palmyra Historical Society and very proud to be one of the founding members. The Cemetery project was overwhelmingly successful. We are now trying to get some of the signs for the various Cemeteries improved and relocated. Our next meeting will be to educate the locals (elderly as well as youth) about some of the everyday scams we face and how to deal with them. We will be honoring the memory of Sheriff James Jones who also owned the Old Stage Coach Inn at one time. Please plan to attend our next meeting September 27th at the Palmyra Fire Station to hear our guest speaker and our presentation on Sheriff James Jones. This picture is of Della helping clean up the old Inn December 2021. The seed was planted that day to create the Historical Society. She has worked tirelessly toward that end ever since.

On May 23, 2023, I had the privilege to assist members of the Palmyra Historical Society in placing 36 dozen American flags on veteran headstones at the Palmyra Cemetery, Palmyra, Ohio.
Sixteen Revolutionary War patriots were remembered, including David Daniels, one of the first settlers of Palmyra. Broken, bent, or missing veteran flag holders were replaced by cemetery maintenance workers who walked alongside our group. See attached photos.
President of the Palmyra Historical Society, Della Evans organized and led this event. The event ran smoothly and afterwards volunteers were presented with a coupon for a free lunch from a local restaurant.
I hope to participate in this patriotic event next year!!
