Mission: The mission of Pacific Serenades is to generate new chamber music by commissioning works and presenting them alongside standard repertoire in intimate concert settings, emphasizing the wonderful talents of Southern California musicians.Underlying the mission are our ideals of creating an environment in which new music can be perceived as part of a living tradition of music, rather than as a separate art form accessible only to new-music aficionados; of providing the opportunity for greater interaction between composers and performers so that there is a heightened sense of purpose for the composition and its performance; of developing an audience from among those who do not attend new music events: those who generally do not attend chamber music concerts, as well as traditional chamber music lovers. We find that programming commissioned works along with standard repertoire, as well as presenting the programs in intimate settings, facilitates the attainment of these ideals.It is also our purpose to highlight the wealth of musical talent that exists in Southern California, and so we focus on local composers and performers, most of whom are principals in the major musical organizations of this area.
