Causes: Environment, Natural Resources Conservation & Protection
Mission: Our mission is to maintain and restore native species and ecosystems through habitat protection and management, threat control, public education, and scientific research to develop and improve conservation methods.
Programs: With five fulltime and four seasonal employees and 1935 hours of volunteer time, we translocated four species of hawaiian seabirds this year to create new, safe breeding colonies and banded over 200 wild birds as part of our research. We built 3300 ft of predatorproof fencing to protect native ecosystems, which was the first fence to protect a hawaiian wetland. There is now 102 acres of predator eradications and control and we restored 20 acres of habitat by removing weeds and replacing them with native plants. We have also engaged with k12 students both in their classrooms and with conservation sites visits to educate our future generations.
