Mission: PACER Center enhances the quality of life and expands opportunities for children and young adults with all disabilities and their families, so each person can reach their highest potential. PACER''s operates on the principle of parents helping parents, supporting families, and working in collaboration with others. PACER''s programs provide resources and information for education, employment, health care and social activities that families need in order to help their children with disabilities build the skills and develop the abilities that will expand their options for a full life. We help children and young people acquire skills that foster independence and self-sufficiency, skills that will help them succeed in school, work and life.
Programs: PACER's programs include: Parents Helping Parents advocacy for families of children with disabilities, more than 43,000 requests for information (2007-08); PACER's Web site for children 7-12 years to learn about bullying prevention and appropriate responses to bullying behavior, and PACER's Web site for teens 13-19 (see www.PACERKidsAgainstBullying.org and www.PACERTeensAgainstBullying.org; American Indian Parent Network; Multicultural Project for Hmong, Hispanic/Latino(a), Somali people; Health Information and Advocacy Center, information on health care issues; Early Childhood Project, PACESETTER newsletter sent to 115,000 parents and professionals; Grandparents Program, information and resources for grandparents; Project for Parents of Children with Emotional / Behavioral Disorders; Project PRIDE, Rehabilitation Act Information; Project C3, information for youth with disabilities about transition to secondary education and employment (www.C3mn.org); COUNT ME IN Disability Awareness Puppet Program presented to elementary age students; Juvenile Justice Training Program; Simon Technology Center and Software Lending Library; Project KITE; Tech Connect Project; Technical Assistance Alliance to Parent Projects, national coordinating office for 100+ Parent Training Projects in the country; Technical Assistance about Transition and the Rehabilitation Act, (TATRA) listserv and resources.
