I have been donating to P.E.F. Israel Endowment Funds for many years. I give them thousands of dollars a year, with names of organizations I choose from their list. Every penny goes to the entities I choose, because P.E.F. doesn't take any part of the donations for administration or fundraising expenses. They send my contributions expeditiously and I receive acknowledgment letters from the recipients. The staff are friendly and helpful. I strongly recommend P.E.F.
I donated $18 to this organization based on the Jewish cultural tradition that charity should be based on the number 18. The Hebrew word chai means two different things: LIFE and the NUMBER 18. This was an error as they do not accept anything lower than $25 because "it is too costly". I find this remarkably insensitive and insulting and can verify that the 20-30 donations I make per year at this rate have never, ever, been returned. I also broke my own personal rule to check organizations on yours and charity navigator's sites and both would have influenced me not to donate.
