Nonprofit Overview

Causes: Cancer, Health

Mission: The Ovarian Cancer Connections (OCC) mission is to raise awareness about ovarian cancer, educate the community on the early warning signs of this disease. Additionally, the OCC provides financial assistance to women in our community currently in treatment for ovarian cancer and transportation assistance to women in treatment for all gynecological cancers. As an all volunteer staff, we are very thankful for the support from our community and those outside of NW Ohio & SE Michigan. 100% of the money we raise stays local to support the many women currently in treatment. "As I watched my Mother battle ovarian cancer with unwavering strength and faith - in the same fashion as her own mother battled ovarian cancer - I knew I needed to be a part of the movement that educates ladies on the early warning signs of the disease so others didn"t have to face the same struggle as Mom and Grams. Being a part of the Ovarian Cancer Connection has turned deep, heartfelt grief into a deep heartfelt passion. The financial assistance we offer ladies is something we take great pride in, because every person associated with the OCC is a volunteer - nobody is paid a salary." Kathy M.

The Ovarian Cancer Connection is run by the most caring individuals around. I was shocked to find out that not one of the members of this organization draws a salary. All of the money they raise goes back to the women in the community that are battling this terrible illness. You don't find that with other non-profits. Genuine, caring people that dedicate their lives and time to helping support local women.

I am very proud to be a board member of this fantastic non-profit organization that benefits so many women of NW Ohio and SE Michigan with gynecological cancers. My wife and I were voted in as board members in early 2019 and it's been a very busy fund-raising year so far. We love that 100% of the income goes to this non-profit and all of the volunteers and board members are not paid a cent for their tremendous efforts.

I have recently joined as a member of this all volunteer board. I am amazed at the hard work and dedication put into supporting the community from not only the board but the vast number of volunteers who help endlessly year after year. It is an amazing grass roots organization that has helped so many and continues to grow in its support.

I am so proud of this organization. I have a volunteer at many of their events and have watched them grow throughout the years. I've also heard that if anybody needs to get to a doctor's appointment and they cannot get there by their selves that a board member is more than happy to make sure that they get to their appointment

The ovarian Cancer Connection is terrific! The support that they offer to those fighting or who have fought and their families is beyond standard. They go above and beyond what you would expect a non profit to do. Providing help financially , with the help of donations, to patients and families or pointing them in the direction of people who may be able to help and aide them. This organization becomes your family. They will do anything they can to help you.

I have only been volunteering for the OCC for the past couple years. Once I found out what an awesome connection this group is for women fighting this horrible disease, I was emotionally taken in. Not only do they help women who have been diagnosed with Ovarian Cancer but any type of Gynecologic Cancer. It amazes me that all funds raised go directly to help and support the women who have been diagnosed. What an awesome awesome group. Thank you OCC for all you do to help women out.

My experience with OCC has been very rewarding. We provide education, awareness and outreach regarding Ovarian Cancer. I am a survivor, and now a board member and trying to do my part for this organization that serves NW Ohio and SE Michigan.
We are working hard to get the word out to providers, hospitals and outreach centers. We have a financial assistance program that was started about 4 years ago that has been highly utilized for items like gas cards to assist women get to treatment centers. We also help with utilities, medication, food, or other related items,
Our executive director, who was one of the founders has been very passionate about our cause and has provided great leadership. Our board members are also very passionate due to their own experiences with ovarian cancers\, either as survivors, or family members of women who have been affected by ovarian cancer. Our executive director, president and board members volunteer their time to complete the mission of the OCC. They are not paid for their work.
Most recently, we've opened our second location in Fremont, Ohio. It was started by survivors in the local area.
The Charity Navigator program has awarded us a 5 star rating two years in a row as a nonprofit organization. We provide advocacy in Washington DC to obtain funding to continue on with our mission. OCC has many events during the year for fundraising, such as our annual walk, golf tournament, volleyball tournament, and glow bicycle ride. We also have an annual survivor luncheon to get survivors and friends together for an afternoon of food, fun, and relaxation. To provide awareness we "turn the town teal" by placing teal ribbons throughout local communities during the month of September.
I am proud to be a member of this organization- the Ovarian Cancer Connection.

Every year for the last 10 years I've helped with the walk. I'm amazed every year the number that turn out. I've seen it grow immensely over that time. That may be a sign of a growing problem or maybe it's heightened awareness. Either way its always amazes me the love and care this group of friends and families have fore one another. I know the many things that OCC does for these people. They perform almost miracles for those that need that help. I wish them continued success in their endeavors, Maybe someday with research and cures, the OCC may someday not be needed. Until then the great work of the OCC will provide that much needed help. I have been volunteering with the OCC for many years; mostly with the walk. It is amazing to see the support provided to the survivors and family members. They need that support so much. And support they get ... and not just emotional but also financial. The Board members are such a blessing, they work so diligently and no one takes a salary. A wonderful organization.

I became involved with the OCC after my mom battled this horrible disease. After my mom was diagnosed with ovarian cancer, she raised awareness about the disease. She wanted every person to be aware of the signs and symptoms and how to listen to and know your body. OCC allows me to continue to raise awareness and suppprt women and their families with ovarian and other gyn cancers on behalf of my mom's memory.

I started with this wonderful organization as a volunteer for the annual walk. I discovered how passionate this organization is about providing monetary support for women with gynecological cancers. As a survivor of ovarian cancer, I know how important that support is. I am now a member of the board and I have seen first hand the dedication of all of its members. This group has been an important resource for many women and their caregivers

What a great nonprofit! While some organizations split their profits between salaries, research, and other outlets, the Ovarian Cancer Connection donates all profits to women in NW Ohio who are receiving treatment for Ovarian, Cervical and Gynecological Cancer. With gas cards to get them them to appointments and treatments, or even assistance with bills and phones, the monies that come go directly back into the community we love.
