Outreach Int. is a favorite service (often referred to as charity) for us! We have seen amazing evidence first hand of the benefits of their program of training local individuals to be leaders of their community in Malawi, Dominican Republic and Nicaragua. Their approach is to build skills and confidence in the individual in order to produce leaders to work with others in their own communities! After identifying and prioritizing needs they develop a plan to achieve their goals. Women and men are involved in leadership rolls. Projects include small businesses, community gardens, farming, schools, lunch programs, small animals and many more!
Purpose, success, confidence, team work, better nutrition, organizational skills and many other attributes are the result of this well designed program for helping the poor help themselves get out of poverty permanently! There is a wonderful legacy that keeps reaching out and being passed on. Definitely a worthy organization to invest time and money in. We have loved being a volunteer for many years as well as giving financially. Time and money well spent! The smiles on the faces of people who have benefited make it all worth while! It is a service, not a charity!!
Thanks so much for your thoughtful testimonial about Outreach, Vivian. Your dedication to our mission and all your help to advocate for the rights of those living in poverty is an integral part of our work, and we could not be as successful without you!
To those who live in poverty, Outreach International is their ticket out! It is a slower process than handouts, but because it teaches reliance on the community, the team and the individual, it builds programs that are sustainable and lasting. These programs come from within the community or team where they empower and build confidence. We have witnessed the joy and pride in the people who are living and working within the communities and we have seen the end result (gardens, wells, houses, etc.)! These communities are vibrant, children are attending school, people have jobs, families have food and life is good!
Outreach also realizes that there are times of natural disaster such as the recent typhoons in The Philippines when time doesn't permit the process to unfold, in which case a handout is necessary. They are on top these situations also.
With a low overhead budget, dedicated volunteers and a nine-step process (Participatory Human Development Process) that is proven (and sought out by other organizations), we know that Outreach International is exemplary and a Great Non-Profit!
Working with Outreach International as an intern was one of the most rewarding experiences of my lifetime. First, the staff is truly dedicated to the mission of this organization and work above and beyond on a daily basis to ensure that their colleagues and community partners in the field are well supported. As a team, Outreach International is dedicated to evaluation and innovation. On an individual basis, each member of the Outreach team is not only kind and passionate about their work, but they bring great optimism to the work place. I am lucky to have had the opportunity to work for such an impactful organization and am looking forward to see what they can continue to accomplish in the future.
It was a real pleasure and benefit to Outreach to have you intern with us, Rachel! We're really happy that you found it rewarding, and appreciate your drive in accomplishing so many things while with us. You knock it out of the park when it comes to productivity!
It’s been almost 5 years that I have worked with Outreach International (OI) in its Participatory Human Development Program (PHDP) here in Nepal, and the experience is incredibly awesome and very inspiring. Being a development graduate, I was always inclined to join an organization that aligned with transitional models and addressed the real time needs of people living in poverty. Outreach is that organization, and I am very proud to be associated with them.
Outreach International keeps people at core, its premise being that communities can drive the development process themselves by identifying their needs, taking collective decisions, and mobilizing for sustainable issue resolution. This response to challenges creates local social improvement and economic development. Throughout that journey I have found people able to unleash their own potentials as individuals and a group to mobilize their existing but unnoticed resources and learn how to explore new opportunities.
When I as an HDF can ignite that spark of consciousness in people that they are enough to solve their own issues to better their living conditions, that’s where the satisfaction and beauty of using the PHDP process lies for me. In making that happen, OI has been an enormous support and guide, in witnessing the transitional journey of people who are not spoon-fed but encouraged to take steps themselves. This makes all the hard work we do to create sustainable communities worthwhile.
Being a development practitioner, working with Outreach has provided personal development and the continual evolving of my professional skills. It is the relationship of passion and compassion with community people that lifts my willingness to keep traveling with them, and the pats I keep getting on my back from very positive and encouraging Outreach mentors have been a source of motivation even in the face of adversities. I am grateful to Outreach for providing me a genuine opportunity to be a part of a healing process where I can walk together with people to lessen their sufferings and help uplift their lives!
Thank you for creating that spark of hope and possibility in the communities where you work, Niru! We appreciate all your efforts to mentor, support, and encourage people as they discover their own potential to create a new future for themselves.
Outreach International has been an amazing organization doing community led development in our poor community of Zambia. since i joined this organization i have seen lives changed, their household income increased. even during this unprecedented time this organization are very supportive to me the staff and the people that we work with, in fact if there were time in which this organization has remained relevant is during this time of the pandemic when we see the response it has given to its people in terms of food distribution, provision of protective face masks, and handwashing stations. of recent it has been supporting us to do community covid-19 orientation in community so that people can also take measure in preventing the spread of covid-19.
Thanks so much for sharing the impact of the Participatory Human Development Process on the community where you work, Kennedy! Kudos to you, the Zambia team, and your community for all of the accomplishments made possible there because of your persistence, teamwork and efforts!
It has been a privilege to work with Outreach International (OI) that supports the Participatory Human Development (PHD) process towards community-led development here in the Philippines. The good thing about implementing PHD is that we get to work and relate directly with folks in marginalized communities and ensure that they play vital roles in all development initiatives and actions. It is not the typical approach of merely helping those in need, rather, it is collaborating with those people so that together we can better their lives and eliminate poverty issues. OI has been supportive and appreciative of our development work since day one. Their unwavering assistance in funding numerous community-led projects in the Philippines is just one of many things that we are thankful for. Also, my work being a project development staff has allowed me to document and share the inspiring stories of people whose lives were transformed because of the projects funded by OI.
Further, OI’s financial and moral support has fueled not only our organization and people’s organizations to sustain but also encouraged us to thrive even in the face of adversities in pursuit of development. They did not fail to provide us with a solid support system and nurture a working culture that is full of optimism, commitment, and passion. Words of encouragement and appreciation from OI staff have been of help in boosting our confidence and intensifying our commitment to being of service to humanity.
Being in the development practice is a fulfilling and rewarding job. I am beyond grateful that I have the opportunity to work with Ol. My working experiences with them made me who I am today - a passionate and dedicated development practitioner who works toward a better world where no one is left behind!
It's a privilege to work with YOU, Valerie! Your work truly makes a difference in the world, and we appreciate the interviewing and videotaping skills you continue to develop to illustrate the impact that people are making in their communities.
Helping people around the world improve their lives though Outreach International (OI) extends my reach as a volunteer and long-time donor. Knowing that local people receiving OI services are developing their skills to improve their community situations "checks off" another box for me: positive changes are more likely to be sustained and replicated.
As a former professional with experience in a similar field, I've seen the ripple effect when people acquire skills and initiate participation in meeting their community needs. OI ranks high among organizations with the largest percentage of charitable donations going directly to the field. I've met several frontline community workers addressing complicated scenarios and root causes. These conversations and their website information satisfy my strong belief that donations and time are used effectively.
Outreach International makes it easy to practice gratitude. I am thankful OI is out there on our behalf enhancing its important assets: human development and lives.
As an intern, I was able to see first-hand the incredible dedication and excitement the team at Outreach International has for every aspect of their work. They are a truly inspiring group of individuals dedicated to helping some of the least fortunate in the world in giving them the tools to turn their lives and futures around. Every day I worked with the incredible people at OI I was filled with the overwhelming sense that what I was doing was important and good. I could not have been prouder to work for this incredible organization and would love nothing more than the chance to work one more day at OI. I cannot express the importance or humanity of everything they do. They are truly best of the best.
It has been a real pleasure to work with YOU, Ben! You brought so much energy and fresh perspectives to our meetings and assignments, and we were fortunate to have you join us for the summer.
Outreach International facilitates community-led development focused on ending chronic poverty, worldwide. Operating in 10 countries, OI uses a unique approach to building a sustainable impact with the communities that they work with. The approach begins with local OI staff becoming part of a community to learn about challenges that the community faces while learning about the resident, demographics, resources, and infrastructure. From there, the OI team partners with community leaders to facilitate discussions and ideas to address projects that will resolve local issues, while building new skills and capabilities within the community. OI then helps the community obtain resources (e.g., government grants, donations, etc.) to enable the project to take off. OI works with the community on implementation and typically exits a community within 5-6 years - sustainability within the community to carry on with the project(s) and expand is a key success factor of OI...and frankly a key differentiator to other non-profits.
What is even more amazing is that the approach is proven...demonstrated over 40 years...and the organization is well run, with some of the smartest, innovative, and hard-working people at the headquarters through the field. The financials are strong and the focus is doing the most good in the field...not building an "HQ" team.
Check out Outreach International (https://outreach-international.org) and help us address poverty through sustainable actions around the world.
Thanks, Joanne, for such a comprehensive and glowing review of our work! We are very fortunate to have you on our team!
I had the opportunity to be an intern at Outreach International! There were many things that drew me to this organization but overall, the staff is passionate, the work is sustainable, and you can rest assured that 100% of donations go straight to the communities and programs they work internationally
Thank you for the complimentary shout-out, Helene! We loved having you join our Outreach family, and hope you will come visit us when you get a chance.
I've donated for several years and I appreciate that my donations go directly to help people with extreme poverty. I believe this is a trustworthy organization that sends 100% of donor funds to support the mission abroad. Outreach Internationals community-led development process should be the model for other NGOs to follow. I also appreciate how passionate all the Outreach International team members are about the organizations mission.
Thank you for your thoughtful review. We appreciate your support for our mission which helps families in communities around the world achieve their dreams of a better life and a better future for their children. You help make that possible!
Outreach International has been helping poor people around the world for over 40 years! And the outcomes of their work LASTS! This is because they use a process they call participatory human development! This means that those suffering from the effects of poverty participate in the process of 1) identifying what their major concerns are 2) learn about ways to act on (or overcome) those concerns 3) take action and 4) experience the outcomes! Those outcomes include things like increased livelihood and income, increased food, clean drinking water, improved housing, schooling for theIr children. The people not only live better lives.., but they have helped make it happen!! And, therefore, they can make it keep happening into the future!! I have been blessed to visit some of these villages where lives have been changed- and the people are so full of joy and excitement to share what has happened in their lives... what they have done!! Outreach International continues to be a blessing to people!
Kathy, It's always a pleasure to hear from you! As one of our loyal founders who have been with us as a donor and Board Member since the beginnings of our work, you probably know us better than anyone. We appreciate your support, in all the ways that manifests itself - including your thoughtful reviews!
Outreach International has been achieving outstanding, sustained outcomes, with the poor around the world, since the early 1970s! Their approach is called “participatory human development”- and is just that: helping the poor organize, then participate in Identifying their top concerns... and then finding solutions they can take to make changes! And the changes LAST- because the people themselves have been involved in bringing about those changes!! I have visited some of those villages, where the people have made changes in their lives ... with improved livelihood, better homes, clean drinking water and food, and schools... and seen their great joy and excitement to share what they’ve achieved! It is so wonderful to share with them... what Outreach helped make possible... but what they made happen - and are continuing to maintain...through their own efforts!!
No other group can do so much with so few. They reach around the world to the lowest of people giving hope and a future. Their work brings about peace. We need more groups like this.
I became associated with Outreach International recently after retirement. Initially I was attracted to Outreach as it is a complex organization that is very much operated like a business. The value of contributions goes far beyond the monetary value of the gift, as they build sustainable solutions that create on going benefits. It goes much further than teach a man to fish rather than giving him a fish. Outreach's goal is to teach the community to control and sustain the lake to ensure generations of fishing. I have been seriously impressed with the quality of Outreach's staff and personnel. They match that of any business I've seen. Their commitment to Outreach's mission is inspiring.
I am fortunate to be associated with Outreach International and hopefully I can contribute to their success and all the great good they generate.
Kansas City, Missouri
I cannot say enough good things about Outreach International. The staff is incredibly dedicated and it’s a pleasure to donate to an organization that is making a real, sustainable difference for communities around the word.
I've seen how Outreach is able to build stronger communities and support growth around the world and it is so inspiring. I LOVE how they reach out to people in need and share their passion and love for the international community.
One of the best parts about their giving is that they do it while utilizing local staff to empower local development. In the communities they serve, Outreach works with local staff to provide the resources that the people would like to improve their quality of life. The people then feel a stronger sense of achievement and accomplishment that encourages them in the future.
I am so happy to give to my support to Outreach over the years and continue into the future.
As a person with an extensive business background, I have been frustrated with charitable efforts that would be considered heresy to people knowledgeable in the field. No market surveys. No follow up to determine whether you're creating anything of value. The "illegal dumping" of free goods that destroy the livelihoods of local farmers and small businesses.
Outreach does the opposite. As a matter of fact, their entire development process is geared toward developing local self-sufficiency by empowering communities to solve their own problems. Connecting people to regional resources, developing teams who tackle problems, creating the entrepreneurial spirit - these are the true drivers of sustainability.
I've been blown away by the people and work of Outreach. This is not a non-profit handing down solutions. Outreach is focused on partnering with the people we serve to help them create lasting change.
I was honored to be asked to join the board last year. As I've gotten to see the work from inside the organization it is even more impressive. They are constantly working to be sure that every dollar that is donated helps the maximum number of people. Their work to refine their processes and study the results guarantees anything that is given has a positive impact.
Outreach International is an exceptional nonprofit organization. OI utilizes a unique model of community involvement designed to break the cycle of poverty in locations worldwide. OI provides direct support to empower communities in the identification of key issues, brainstorm solutions, and implement plans to overcome local poverty barriers. OI maintains local support until the plan developed by the community is fully implemented and self sustaining. I am proud to be able to be a regular donor to OI. Due to the generosity of a donor who supports management costs, 100% of my monthly donation goes directly to an active project!
Outreach International is the first non-profit company I have had the pleasure of donating to and I am so happy I did.
It is amazing to see and follow the informative posts on all forms of social media in providing poverty related solutions, different methods being used to do so and seeing their volunteers/employees ensuring a change is being made worldwide especially through these rough and uncertain times. This company is by far the best I have seen in providing such an impact in multiple countries and the effort given by their employees is a sign that there are passionate people who will push hard to make the world a better place by any means.
I know for a fact I will continue to be a donor for this company.
Thank you Outreach International, please keep up the amazing work!
Outreach International is an impressive non-profit organization that supports several communities in ten countries. I enjoy and appreciate the Facebook and instagram posts. They are informative and so personal. During this Covid19 era we are all dealing with, Outreach International has more than ever supported communities in need. Way to go Outreach International. Keep up the fantastic work.
I love this Outreach International nonprofit organization. They provide necessary sustainable support to many communities around the world. They stay until the project is complete. An extremely worthwhile place to donate your money. Way to go, OI!
You continually make our days brighter with your likes and posts, Peg! Thanks for being our balcony person, always cheering us on.
I'm privileged to have been on the board of Outreach for the past 5 years. A finer organization does not exist. There are many worthy charities doing great work, but it's hard to find one that makes every dollar donated count so deeply. First, the Outreach approach to alleviating poverty is unparalleled in long term poverty reduction, giving villages sustainable tools to continually improve their quality of life. Second, Outreach is blessed to have a devoted donor who pays for all our overhead costs, which means every dollar you donate goes 100% to helping people improve their lives. Check out the website which helps explain more deeply how Outreach works and the incredible impact it has around the world. Want to make the world a better place? Join the Outreach family.
Outreach is expanding since our proven approach to alleviating chronic poverty works! We have added Nepal and Cambodia to our current 8 countries and now help thousands of people across 10 different countries. Outreach works!
Thanks, Dan! You play in important part in those efforts both at HQ and abroad as a Board member. Outreach works because you help make it work as well!
Hi! I am Val Gando. As an accountant I have devoted more than 31 years of my life working with poor communities in their struggles to improve their lives and I say we have been very lucky that through the years Outreach International has been here to support us. What I like most about Outreach International is its willingness to support ordinary people from the community who have taken the leadership to improve their lives and their community. Like in this picture that I am sharing which I took recently, Michelle, Jenny and Melissa (women in green shirts from left to right), ordinary women from Pulong Visaya community in the Philippines, who have learned the skills of facilitating group actions to resolve simple community issues through their experiences with the Participatory Human Development Program of Outreach International, are now helping the residents of nearby community of Balite by sharing their experiences of working together to resolve community issues. The three leaders have facilitated a meeting on October 11, 2019 where residents of Balite participated in their prioritization of issues and in planning the next steps. Soon, they will be mobilizing to resolve their issues of "Absence of sanitary latrines" and "Lack of access to safe drinking water", which have been affecting at least 61 families in Balite for a long time. Things like this happen because Outreach International, a great non-profit organization, provides support to ordinary people like Jenny, Melissa and Michelle, which enables them to facilitate improvement of their own lives and of their neighbors'. Thank you Outreach International!
I joined Outreach International in September 2016. This organization has been a blessing to my life. I am now a change agent, of my life first, and of countless lives in the community where I am assigned and beyond.
Now I can deny myself and embrace all that can add value to my life through the Process of Participatory Human Development. Humbling myself and forgetting my degrees and the honors of my previous career, I have developed a passion for the less privileged in society. I chose to be among and work with the poor (whom I don’t really consider poor because of their rich culture, native intelligence, civility and wisdom), and Outreach International gave me the venue.
Day by day I see how the Mapande community is changing and transforming from a community of illiterate people in their majority to a new community of people with formal education; people of all ages. Children, youth, adults and old people are happy to work hand in hand to overcome their illiteracy situation, and also to grow more vegetables and store enough food, access safe clean water, end child marriages, improve nutrition using indigenous crops, improve sanitation and hygiene, and become ‘visible’ to both customary and civil authorities.
Outreach International delivers sustainable, long lasting results for both the beneficiaries and the donors. I have been privileged to work for Outreach International for over 3 years now, facilitating and witnessing this kind of development. I can testify to it. I shall continue supporting this work wherever I will be. Thank you.
I’ve been volunteering with Outreach International for over a year and a half. I wouldn’t want to volunteer anyplace else! The staff are friendly and caring. Their commitment to OI’s mission is commendable. OI has a unique mission, and I admire how they share their philosophy around the world. I like being part of that community.
Thank you, Pam! We love having you as part of our office and global community too!
Feeling very happy to work in PHD process supported by OI .Since 2010, I am working as a HDF to help the people who are unprivileged. Before I started working there were many issues in the communities. The community people were dependent to the political leaders or govt. agencies for resolution of their issues due to low level of consciousnes, insufficient skills and knowledge. But after my continue integration and ground working under PHDP, people improved their consciousness and interested to tackle the issues. They conducted meetings and negotiated with the agencies continue to resolve the issues. Through continue follow ups they resolved the issues. They not only resolved the issues but also improved their negotiation skills or capability, gained knowledge over the process on how to negotiate with the agency and provisions. To tackled the issues they became united. Now they are empowered, helping themshelves and helping others.
Community people are feeling happy and appreciating OI for it's support. Because through PHDP they changed their lives as: they are drinking pure water instead of canal water. Accessing electricity, led lights without using candles. Widows, handicaps and elders are accessing monthly assistance, old age people got their cataract operation, etc. Feeling happy for the changes of the community lives.
Iwould like to thank OI for giving me this opportunity for working as a HDF under its PHD process. Withen this 9 year I have not only helped the people but also improved my skills, knowledge, capability and live. I am enjoying my work and I am committed to continue work under OI to help the people to build sustainable communities and to abolish poverty.
Thank YOU, Mona, for your work in India to help empower residents to obtain the skills and confidence that continue to make these opportunities and improvements possible! Skilled facilitators like you make our work effective and sustainable!
I have ridden a bicycle across WI to raise money; used Christmas money received to help build a wells in foreign countries; helped Jr. and Sr. High Sunday School classes raise money to buy pigs, goats, etc. for foreign communities. I only say this as a way of pointing out how much I believe in this organization. I know of no other nonprofit that has such a low overhead. They accomplish amazing things because they actually go into the communities to find out what the residents of the community think is most important. They then follow the old axim give a man a fish he lives for a day, teach a man to fish he lives for a lifetime. They teach, not do!
Thanks for being such a dedicated and active supporter, Laurie! We love your review - and you - for making it possible for us to help even more people become self-sufficient.
An amazing charity with results that directly impact and uplift those in poverty around the globe! Their partnership approach with impoverished communities is a unique and effective approach to solving world poverty.
Thanks for the kudos, Ashden - you made our Monday amazing!
Traveling with Outreach International on a site visit to Malawi, Aftica showed me how the money I contribute really impacts those in extreme poverty. Many charities can advertise their work well. But I got to have the experience of seeing Outreach's unique process truely work to eliminate poverty.
Outreach International is the foremost charity I support, because I deeply believe in their mission to create self-sustainable and empowered communities in the world. My relationship with Outreach began as I child, and I continue it with my children today. So thankful for the work they do!!!
Thank YOU, Katie, for embracing and supporting our mission, and for multiplying the good we can do by passing on your values to YOUR kids!
I support this charity because it teaches methods/practices to become self-sustained, along with providing immediate relief. This long-term thinking really moves the needle for communities and entire societies! Thank you Outreach International!
You get 5 stars from us as well, Greg! Thanks for standing alongside us in empowering individuals and families around the world!
Thank you to Outreach International for all the support and help they give to so many countries! Beyond impressed and proud of everything they do. OI is my favorite non-profit organization. Keep up the great work. Love your Facebook daily posts.
Thanks for the positive shout-out, Peg - you made our day! We couldn't make this great an impact without people like you!
I’ve been a supporter of Outreach International for many years now. I’ve also had the opportunity to visit some of the fields where they work and feel proud to be associated with them. They have a unique way to ending poverty, I have seen first hand how incredibly effective this approach is. I whole heartedly recommend them and will continue to be a supporter.
Over the years, I've had the opportunity of seeing several charities working in areas of poverty but none have impressed me as much as Outreach International. I truly believe that their approach is unique. Many organizations are happy to simply provide short-term handouts which I know from experience has few sustainable benefits. Outreach International on the other hand works very closely with the community, helping them identify their core issues and then works as a facilitator to assist them in overcoming these issues. I have seen with my own eyes how community members have become empowered to make permanent changes to their situation. The process takes a while but the long term benefits are astonishing. I am now an avid supporter of this charity and will continue to donate to this worthy cause in the future.
I cannot speak more highly about the impact Outreach International has and continues to have on the lives of those our contributions touch. Through sustained support of through funding and education, lives are being changed. I am a proud supporter of this organization.
Sustained commitment and dedication are words that are accurate and true for Outreach International (OI). The programs initiated in countries and villages across the globe are created with long term sustainability and support from OI. Through this type of commitment and hands on training with the people directly affected by the programs, individuals lives are being enriched and enhanced in ways that were not possible before. Knowing that OI continues to support and sustain these needs is what sets OI apart for me. I've been a donor for years and plan to continue to support this wonderful nonprofit for as long as possible.
I first learned about Outreach International thru a children's education program called 'Caribbean Kids,' where the goal of helping others to help themselves was expressed so clearly, and was such a new idea, that I and the kids' group I directed, took to it right away. We loved the idea of villages, families, and individuals expressing their need, planning for it, teaming up to make it a success, and realizing their vision with Outreach's help. I volunteer there, I've worked there for some years, and I believe in their approach to making the world a better place. Yay for a great organization!
I was fortunate enough to work for Outreach for a few years, and was overwhelmed by how much good work so few employees accomplish around the world. It was amazing to watch their energy, dedication, and professional skill. During summer and winter terms, college students compete to intern at Outreach, to travel to places where they can learn about authentic participation, to teach the next generation about poverty that can be overcome, and to create new resources that appeal to all ages. Elderly volunteers are regular as clockwork, filling the back offices with laughter and long hours, preparing mailings and special products.
Since working at Outreach, I have used Outreach's children's program and catalog to teach large groups of kids from around the country about Outreach's message of making a difference by partnering with others to make sustainable change. Children are easily engaged in this message and purpose using Outreach's well-designed resources, Shop, and Catalog.
I started my relationship with Outreach International 25 years ago. What I love most is their motto to help people help themselves. Teach them how to grow, build, create community. I’m my opinion, they are one of the greatest non profits ever created and I’m honored to continue my support of this extraordinary organization!
I have had a relationship with OUTREACH INTERNATIONAL since I was a teenager. I was given a $5 bill to take and multiply to help raise money for OI. I promptly took the $5 and put it in a drawer for about two years. Then something happened. I started really paying attention to what OI does as an organization. I decided the best way to raise money for OI was to perform. It's what I do. It's who I am. So, I organized a benefit concert. 20 years has past since that first concert and I am still in relationship with this AMAZING organization. Here is what impresses me most. They don't simply drop the things that people need to them. They go. They teach. They live. It's called SUSTAINABLE GOOD. They leave behind the tools that the people and communities need to succeed and continue long after OI's time there. They literally are changing the world and people's lives for the better. It's not just about being charitable. It's about giving and teaching and leaving HOPE for the people they touch. I have raised money for many charities during my professional career as a performer and musical director. NONE compare to the work and passion that is OUTREACH INTERNATIONAL. They are MY charity. They are MY HOPE for this world. They are SUSTAINABLE GOOD.
I love my volunteer work and the wonderful people I work with, both employees and other volunteers, while volunteering at Outreach International. Probably my favorite thing about Outreach International is that this organization works to try to eliminate poverty in the world by helping others help themselves. The clients that Outreach helps have a sense of worth and accomplishment in whatever project they are working on, whether it be digging a new water well, or organizing a small business to be able to sell their homemade items. It's wonderful to volunteer for a world-class organization that is making a profound difference in our world. I whole hardheartedly support this organization by volunteering for them, as well as supporting them financially!
I have been a volunteer for OI for many years. I believe in the work and vision of this non profit and will continue to support this organization in any way I can.
We are so impressed with the consistent regard for people, in the activities initiated by Outreach International for relief of sanitation, health and poverty in the world. It is heart warming to participate with their efforts, by contributing to Outreach International as a tribute to loved ones instead of funeral flowers or at Christmas in memory of those we love, we are sure the money will be used to alleviate needs by worthwhile projects focused on people's needs.
I have worked with Outreach International since 2006 and have seen firsthand the significant change of Outrech International's work in people living in extreme poverty. I have seen the people living in poverty become empowered, I have heard the voice of the most deprived saying "I can change my situation with community organization".
I can assure that Outreach International uses a powerful tool called PDHP (Participatory Human Development Process) that becomes even more powerful when it is facilitated and implemented by the people of the communities themselves.
Mabuhay Outreach International! (Long-live Outreach International!)
I am proud and humbled to be one of the Human Development Facilitators that Outreach International is supporting in the Philippines for 7 years now! Being a Human Development Facilitator is not an easy job. Aside from investing time much of my time with the community away from my family, it is also unavoidable not to be attached with the people I am working with, which I think is the hardest because reaching this stage means you value the welfare of the people more than your own. HDF is a one in a million job that really needs a heart to be successful. Over the years of working as HDF, I could say that I have developed my passion and genuine love for the poor people. I believe that this is not just me deciding to continue this job but it is God’s will.
I am thankful to Outreach International for giving me the opportunity to work with them and with poor communities in the Philippines. I am really honored to help many poor people unload their heavy baggage’s brought by poverty thru Participatory Human Development Process. Again, Mabuhay Outreach International!!!
You represent the heart and soul of our work, Elvis, and we are honored to work with you in in bringing hope and a better life to those in poverty. You make our work, work!
Solving the problem of poverty by asking poor people what they want, advising them on how to organize, and encouraging them to solve their own problems together. Community members providing the driving force to improve their own lives and those of future generations. The effect of contributions multiplied several times because community members themselves access resources to lift themselves up. And on it goes. Who wouldn't want to support this process?
Thanks to YOU for supporting this process and our mission through your involvement and Board leadership! You help multiply those efforts!
I have been giving to Outreach International for over 20 years because they have the right approach to the abolishment of poverty: empowerment of the people they work with. For the last 8 years, I have been privileged to serve on the Outreach Board of Directors and I have visited several sites where Outreach is working at my own expense. I am amazed at the incredible results Outreach gets through working WITH local people to help themselves move out of poverty. I also know where every penny knows and not one gets wasted! You can't do anything better to abolish poverty than to give to Outreach International!
It's been a privilege and joy to work with you, Sharon! Your ongoing support and advocacy on behalf of Outreach is a real blessing.
Outreach International is a unique charity that creates sustainable good in communities around the world. They "build community" and in doing so, empower the poorest of the poor with the ability to help themselves. This raises their self worth and puts them in a position of power over their own lives. I have visited Outreach International work sites and have seen the pure joy in the lives of those who are emerging from the binding ties of poverty and low self worth. It's miraculous!
Hello my name is Juan López Chamorro, I have worked for 12 years with Outreach International from Nicaragua, experiencing a change on a personal level mainly, promoting a change of attitude in people from communities living in chronic poverty.
Through the implementation of the Participatory Human Development Process methodology, I have gained access to families from communities that live with a series of problems that affect them, making them identify the problems in order of priority, seeking alternative solutions, being They themselves are the protagonists of their efforts before local and international institutions and NGOs. As people are doing, learning and experiencing work in their community, they are raising their level of consciousness, empowering themselves and solving problems from simple to complex scales.
I can assure that Outreach International uses a powerful tool called PDHP (Participatory Human Development Process) that becomes even more powerful when it is facilitated and implemented by the people of the communities themselves.
Since I started working with Outreach International as a human development facilitator, I have learnt so many things, which are of benefit to me, my family as well as the communities I have been with. I like the approach/ strategy that Outreach International use as a tool to resolution of the issues, Participatory Human Development Process which involves those who are affected to participate, which also justifies that no one knows everything. I also learnt that provision of skills is the best way to prosperity rather than provision of material help. So Participatory Human Development Process is the best tool to resolution of issues because it fits in all situations, raises the people’s consciousness to develop trust in themselves.
For almost 14 years, I have worked with Outreach International. This organization uses a participatory approach of organizing affected communities in solving their own issues, which is not observed in many organizations’ interventions. During my career in development with Outreach, I saw people find their smile, their hope, their confidence, and above all, a positive meaning to their existence and lives.
Outreach leads the poor to believe in their own ability to transform themselves and their environment, and helps them realize that they are the only ones to be at the center of their own success.
I would like to share the following experience from my own community where I work:
At the beginning of 2017, a borehole was financed, finalized, and equipped with a hand pump to provide residents with access to more water. Given the large number of individuals needing water, the pump failed to meet community needs due to the time required for pumping. The community analyzed the problem by itself and decided to sign an agreement with a solar pump supplier. Soon the solar pump will be installed to allow a large number of people to be served in record time. This demonstrates that communities are now able to analyze a problem and propose a solution without the intervention of outsiders, and is also a clear sign of their independence. With just the income from the installed pump, the community is paying for the realization of this project.

As one of the Human Development Facilitator based in Lubumbashi, DR Congo and assigned to the wide community of Kalebuka in the rural Southeast part of the city of Lubumbashi, I have the privilege of seeing first hand people’s lives transformed by the Participatory Human Development Process. You should see how proud they are to share their stories with visitors. Amongst them, maybe Phiri and Boni had the most tremendous change of their lives. Both are active members of local groups we organized in Kalebuka I and Kalebuka II. They are married and fathers of 7 and 5 children respectively. None completed his primary education.
Here is what Phiri said recently:
"Initially, when we started to get involved with Outreach International’s program, I thought that was as always, but things began to take shape for my life." Working on the project of clean water supply as a community, I had the opportunity to be trained in the repair of hand pumps with my friend Boni. I am now a craftsman repairer, with a certificate that proves that I can repair the hand pumps. At least Outreach International with its program gave me the opportunity to have qualifications. I was a mere hunter and casual farmer. Apart from the three hand pumps we receive from Outreach International that we maintain regularly, we receive more and more demands in addition, to repair many other hand pumps in our community and even in neighboring communities. I have started to feel that I am also being appreciated and valued as a worthy person, as compared to the time when I was without qualification. These people (Outreach International) came to help me develop; today I am also proud to help my community by repairing their hand pumps and by training others in the repair of pump. It is in this way that I participate also in the supply of clean drinking water to my community. Our training allowed us to have very good tools kits for the repair that many do not have.
Outreach International helped the two of us to have qualifications, with the possibility of getting employment in drilling companies.”
In February of this year (2017) I was in Nepal and witnessed the passion, dedication and skill of Outreach's in-country staff as they begin the transforming work of helping communities utilize their own abilities and resources to resolve issues that cause poverty.
This is such an awesome charity! It brings out the best in us -- not just in far away places, but here where I live as well as I am tangible reminded of the power of working together for a greater good.
If I would die today and given a chance to live again, I would always choose to work with Outreach International (OI). This organization has given me the opportunity to make a difference in the lives of many people trapped in the vicious cycle of poverty. With my work as Human Development Facilitator (HDF), I have personally witnessed how the less fortunate and hopeless people were empowered to act collectively to resolve issues of poverty affecting them for a long time. My heart was filled with joy! It was such a fullfilment to see how they successfully resolved their issues, which according to them are not for themselves but for the future generations. This was made possible by Outreach International's powerful approach/methodology, which is the Participatory Human Development Process (PHDP).OI's investment is to empower people in the community; these people in return also empower other communities. The touch of OI starts a ripple of empowerment with the hope of attaining sustainable development and eradicate poverty in the future.
I love the way Outreach International helps people to help themselves in a sustainable way. They aren't about band-aids, but cures. And they teach problem solving as they always facilitate within communities instead of delivering solutions. I
Enjoy giving to Outreach even more than my church.
This NGO is amazing. They have made such a difference in so many lives primarily by listening and then teaching local folks ways to change systems in their own community. I am impressed with their website. their enthusiasm and gentle caring humour. They really change everyday life for people.
I am a new board member, but my husband and I have been Outreach donors for decades. We prioritize Outreach in our giving because it has long modeled what leaders in the field now consider "best practices": learning from those we collectively seek to help, and from other thoughtful individuals and organizations, to develop break-through ideas, systems, and technology. Outreach has demonstrated its approach creates lasting solutions to poverty. Join us in supporting this important work!
I am a new board member to Outreach and so excited to be involved in an organization that has a clear and measurable track record of doing what they say they will do. The leadership of this organization is one of the best I have ever been involved with, not only in a non profit but in a for profit organization as well. I am so looking forward to working closely with the board and the leadership to continue the great things this organization does around the world.
Thanks, Cindy - we're thankful to have you on our team!
I have been a volunteer and donor for Outreach International for many years. Their work helps people around the world help themselves through education, initial donations and continued support. Their motto of Sustainable Good typifies their mission of helping people and improving their lives. Projects such as providing clean water, lunches & supplies for school children and animals & seeds for farming all work towards sustaining people and making it possible for them to support their families and become more independent. OI manages their budget and projects very well. I'm very glad to continue to support OI for the coming years.
Outreach International encompasses everything you would want in an organization. From the volunteers to the board members to the PHDP they use to create incredible and sustainable project work, OI continues to exemplify the best of outreach in an international setting while maintaining the highest standard of care and empowerment of the individuals and communities they work with.
I have traveled to site visits with Outreach International in the Philippines and Nicaragua, and can easily say that the work they are doing there is incredible. Not only are they able to integrate the community in their project work, but the community members themselves are in the leadership roles. By actively listening to the needs of the community and facilitating life-changing project work OI is truly changing the world.
The method used by Outreach International is one of the most uncommon ways of resolving community issues, and as such it has not just impacted the community residents where we are working but even us as facilitators. For instance, the method of PHDP has greatly changed me the way and how I look at other people and even the way I look at myself. PHDP has empowered people to realize and appreciate their potentials.
Outreach is a program that helps others to help themselves by teaching them how to grow food for themselves. Show others how to run a farm. Build a well and maintain it.
They are a great organization that has grown by helping others help themselves.
In my 20 years of association with this Organization working in the field in 4 different countries with teams of 4 -8 field staff, I have had the privilege of hearing so many testimonies of changed lives and of seeing so many lives radically transformed by the work of Outreach International: entire communities getting access to more clean water and sanitation; producing enough food for themselves and even an excess to sell thanks to treadle irrigation; starting to make enough income to improve their houses and send children and grandchildren to school and college; creating, building and managing their own schools and kindergartens; feeding the malnourished, elderly and orphaned children; learning to use and erecting hand-washing stations and water-sealed and even flushable toilets; creating and managing their own clinics; changing from fishermen to fish farmers; planting thousands of trees; starting to have a voice and to be be heard and become visible to local and central Governments, etc.
It is not the kind of intervention that continuously provide material assistance for a short-term relief or continuing dependency. No. It is a sustainable change that impact both the people's existence and psyche; the kind of transformation that improves material life alongside increasing consciousness and capabilities while changing people socially and mentally for a long-lasting good. It is the kind of actions and interventions that transform both the development staff and the beneficiaries in their journey together; the kind that let the people participate in defining collectively their own happiness and getting fully involve in its pursue, escorted by donors and operators along the paths towards that happiness with both the field staff and the beneficiaries getting transformed in the journey.
At Outreach International, we strive to end poverty while creating conditions for the poor to take charge of their destiny and create better communities for themselves and a brighter future for their children.
That is why I am still with Outreach International and choosing to remain.
I am a contributor living on a fixed income. I want my small donations to make a big impact. I know I can get that with Outreach International. They make the most of my monies. I have peace of mind knowing that what I can give is making a better world. ZJS
It's about creating PEACE! Worldwide peace. When people have their needs met, they begin to have hope about their future. They believe they can change their life for the better. That's when they begin to feel peace within themselves and their community. PEACE is what Outreach International provides.
If you believe in Peace, you can believe in Outreach International. One way to have peace among peoples is to give them hope, give them the necessities of life, give them education. Fathers want to support their families, mothers want to feed their children, kids want to feel safe. Outreach works towards those issues. This brings peace to a family, peace to community, peace to the world.
As a Board member I have personally seen the consistent results of Outreach International's work in Bolivia, Nicaragua and the Philippines. Sending only a trained facilitator (who is a local national) to teach cooperation and inspire hope, the power of community spirit and working together transforms poverty into prosperity and hope.
Too often we assume that poverty can only be changed by material things from the outside. Instead, it is an intrinsic thing on the inside that really changes poverty. Outreach International's "Participatory Human Development Process" transforms how a village thinks about themselves, others and the challenges that result in poverty, and provides a new way to address those challenges.
It is a joy to see the results and hear the stories of those who have together improved their lives for a better, sustainable future.
McAdamson Willinedi Nkhoma,
I am working with Outreach International, the process of PHDP that we use in facilitating people in the communities in Malawi it has changed me too in the living standard.
In the past I was just an ordinary person without making proper plans for our day to day work in our family mainly on farming, and I could make budgets for myself only without involving my wife with an aim of she cant contribute to the budget making, after I realized that PHDP needs participation of all members of the family, now a days my wife Dorcas is a farm manager while am concentrating to the work with Outreach Development Program doing PHDP in the partner communities.
We are earning more in the farm than in the past when she was not involved, Outreach International indeed has helped me have more changes through the process of PHDP.
Outreach International is the only poverty-fighting organization I know that takes the time -- the patient, long-term view-- to ensure lasting change. They combine research, experience, and fundamental one-to-one relationships in the field to foster independence and self-reliance. Then, each generation in the village models that behavior for generations to follow. So the resulting change stays there, for good.
Why am I still with Outreach International when I've been here for 19 years already? It started with the need to be employed for income, followed by commitment when my work context and direction deepened. Now, it's about passion. Passion that sustains me - making me happy, proud and fulfilled as the impacts of participatory community development work are manifested: people's projects are earning, their consciousness and capabilities are intensifying, participants are increasing with neighboring communities joining. Even families of the staff were benefiting with the positivity and capacities that staff were sharing. We were "tooled" enough to carry out what we need to work on. Isn't it too rewarding?
We love what Outreach International has done in the Peace Pavilion! Children learn about peacemaking in a 'village setting' Thanks OI your work in the world is amazing!
From the perspective of a Board member and a regular donor who has visited Nicaragua three times with Outreach International, I can tell you that it means so much to hear the community members in a developing country speak with personal pride about the things they have done for themselves and their communities. Outreach employs local people to facilitate communities to organize and get what they need and want. Why wouldn't I love this sustainable magic?
I am excited about Outreach International.
For several years, I represented Outreach International at the Combined Federal Campaigns. The administrative costs of OI was always the lowest of the agencies represented there, which meant that the money was going to the programs and people in need, not administration.
The process used by Outreach is transformative. It establishes self-worth, while at the same time alleviating some of the problems of the poor, who are then blessed with better health and nutrition, fewer illnesses, and more sustainable environments.
