I've been involved with OFC for approximately seven years. Their dedication to LGBTQ families is second to none. They work tirelessly to improve the lives of our families on a local, state and national level.
I have been following OFC since I became a part of a very non-traditional family five years ago. I have always admired their work around advocacy and their vast resource network. The more I learn, the more I see the commitment to so much more. The work around Policy for example by leading the FAIR Education Act Implementation Coalition which this fall secured LGBT-inclusive textbooks for all CA school kids, K-8, for the next decade is huge.
I am now on the board and have firsthand knowledge of the hard work, commitment, and focus of the team at OFC. And I see the significant number of lives they help and support across the Bay Area.
If you look at their main focuses, Policy and Advocacy, Education, and Family Support, it’s a huge undertaking. But then when you drill into the details of each of these buckets, it’s amazing they get it all done. As an example, just with Family Support they have support groups, workshops and training, major yearly events, and a referral program for families.
As a new board member, I am honored to be part of such a quality organization that does such life changing work day-in and day-out. They are to me, a Top-Rated Great Nonprofit for sure!
I am in awe of all that Our Family Coalition accomplishes. The programming that they have for queer families in the Bay Area is always very high quality and helpful in creating community for queer families as they navigate parenthood. I recently joined the Board of the organization and have been able to get to know the staff better and see the level of commitment and passion they have to ensure that OFC is doing what it can to fulfill the promise of its mission.
OFC does an amazing job providing programming to LGBTQ families, enacting policy changes, and generally supporting LGBTQ families in they Bay Area. I am proud to support the work they do and grateful for their continued effort on behalf of queer families.
I became familiar with Our Family Coalition after the birth of your daughter over 6 years ago. As a new gay dad of an adopted child, we were looking to build community with people that shared in our journey. We attended a couple of mixers but there one that stands out in my head was the Halloween party when my daughter was 18 months old. We met lots of new parents and make connections that are lasting to this day. Also, this day my daughter walked for the 1st time on the stage during the costume parade. I have been going to events for years and have always enjoyed the organization. Also, I have now become a major donor and excited to be giving to such an important cause. I have been so impressed with the leadership of Renata and all the staff including Tarah, Yusni and Polly. This is an AMAZING organization!!!!!!!!
I wasn't even aware of Our Family Coalition until I was invited to their annual gala event last year. What an amazing organization! Their work has such a huge impact on families all over California and beyond. I was so inspired and touched that I reached out to get involved. They are a small, scrappy, passionate and dedicated team. They do everything from providing support for families in need to passing much needed laws in education to hosting forums with influential thought leaders in the community. OFC is an unsung hero in my eyes and I am excited to see what else they can accomplish in the years to come.
Our Family Coalition supports LGBTQ families in the Bay Area and beyond through programs for parents and prospective parents, trainings for educators, and advocacy. Their services are both specialized (example: Womb to Grow a trans inclusive annual event for people trying to conceive) and inclusive (example: intersectional programming for educators on developing inclusive schools). I have volunteered leading community workshops for OFC for more than a decade. The workshops are well attended and safe places to talk about issues related to donor conception and raising donor-conceived kids. I am especially excited about OFC’s work to bring education about lgbtq people and issues into all CA classrooms. In 1980 I was an 11 year old kid with a lesbian mom in CA public school—nothing about my family or people like my parent was discussed in school. I am grateful that now my 11 year old son is having a different experience that will only continue to improve thanks to the work of Our Family Coalition.
My wife and I found Our Family Coalition shortly after giving birth to our first child. We were overwhelmed in a sea of resources for new parents who were straight; we felt isolated and frankly, a bit lonely and scared. How did families like ours navigate bringing a new baby into the world? We needed both community and tools to hold us up through the transition into parenthood—into queer parenthood. Our Family Coalition offered just that. From parenting support groups to adoption workshops to friendly gatherings of families that looked like ours, we are so grateful to have been welcomed with open arms. We're a stronger family because of Our Family Coalition. I am so excited to grow and learn with Our Family Coalition as our kid gets older and our needs change as a family. I feel like this non-profit is more than an organization, it's an extension of our community, it's a refuge for queer families. It’s a robust ecosystem of people, offerings, events, energies and spaces. And it's a place to feel accepted, supported and uplifted.
Love and gratitude,
We love OFC! All the activities and events they create for families like ours are fun, informative, and have yielded wonderful friendships for us. We took our kiddos to Pride for the first time because we knew there was somewhere safe and fun for us to be with them. Thanks OFC for all the amazing work you are doing for LGBTQ families!!
I have collaborated with Our Family Coalition on a series of anti-racist educational events at the San Francisco Public Library and also taken part in their family activities. I love how dedicated they are to justice and to making the world a better place for *all* families. Additionally, I love how sensitive they are to the needs of working families and to children, always considering elements like childcare, snacks, and accessibility. I look forward to many more years collaborating with OFC and having fun with my kid at their events.
Our Family Coalition prepared me for some of the difficult situations that have come up for my kids in middle-school: bullying, homophobic comments, racism, sexuality, etc. OFC's resources & workshops & events all contributed to our ability to have casual, open conversations about these topics at the dinner table. My kids and our family feel strong, confident and safe in the world today because of the work OFC does. Thank you!
Our Family Coalition (OFC) is an outstanding organization...working for support, education and joy for LGBT families. They also do extensive work in the public schools providing anti-bullyin workshops for teachers in many school districts; addressing bullying as an issue for ALL children, not just LGBT youth. They are diligent in their efforts to promote diverstiy and acceptance of all families, throughout society. Their efforts were recognized by the White House when invited to President Obama's LGBT meeting. For more information about OFC - www.ourfamily.org.
This is a great group. It combines social activity for LBGT parents and their families with activism and education on social and legal issues that affect alternative families. It is well run, well organized, utilizes a dynamic group of volunteers. Good for its members, and good for the larger community!
