Mission: I would like to take a moment to introduce a new concept which will soon become a reality here in the Charlotte community. Our Children's Memorial Walkway (OMCW) will serve as an everlasting reminder of the children who have died in our community, while also providing a place for grieving parents and families to gather to remember their children in a positive way. From 1994 to 1998, a total of 1,703 infants, children, or young people under the age of 36 died in Mecklenburg County, or one every 26 hours. While the memorial will be for children of any age, we especially want people to be aware of the large number of young people who die in our city. OMCW will be located at Frazier Park. The Walkway will be composed of individually engraved bricks, bearing the name of a deceased child or loved one. These bricks will be funded by contributions from bereaved parents, private citizens, and the business community. I am writing you today to ask for your help in promoting this cause to a large segment of our community. Hopefully, you have been spared the heartache of losing a child, but by your support and helping to raise awareness, you will be helping many in their journey of healing.
