Orpheus is an amazing choir. Brook Larson, our Artistic Director (Conductor) is a true professional and has multiple Masters/Doctorates in music (Theory, Conducting). And he's entertaining and easy to get along with. I came into the choir without singing experience, and I'm pleased to say that I can now call myself a singer.

The part I like most about Orpheus is the camaraderie with the other guys. We all share a love of music, and we enjoy the faces in the audience when we delight them with our program. Join us for a few minutes some night and listen to us practice. No commitment required. You'll love the experience - my guess is you'll fall in love and join the choir!

I have been singing with the Orpheus Male Chorus of Phoenix since 2001, now in my 24th season. I have been singing all of my life since youth church choir. In college at the University of Iowa I sang in some University Choir every semester I could. I know quality and Orpheus is of the highest you will find in a male chorus. I was asked to attend a fund-raising concert in 2001 and joined that fall. There is nothing like the feeling of nearly 100 men singing together, the sheer joy of it. Our artistic director is the best at programming the best programs for our audiences and getting thrilling sound out of this group of nonprofessional men.

As a nonprofit, our structure is solid, our Board is dedicated, as are all of our volunteers. We hired a stellar Executive Director this year, and our goal is to move to a predominantly non-singing BOD. We are almost there. We become more professional every year I have been a member. My observation.

All you have to do is attend ONE concert, hear the men of Orpheus touch your hearts, and you WILL be hooked.

I lived in Phoenix for many years before attending an Orpheus performance. I was awed by not only the product but also the rich history of Orpheus and am now proud to serve on the Board of Directors. I encourage everyone to experience the magic of Orpheus!

I had never sung with a group until joining my small church choir later in life. A friend from work encouraged me to come check out Orpheus so I rode to a rehearsal with him one evening, not knowing what to expect. On they way there he said, "By the way, you have to audition". To my surprise and joy, I was admitted as a second tenor. I was impressed with the music that we were preparing for the American Choir Directors Association Conference. As someone with little experience singing, the music was quite challenging. The chorus welcomed me and my fellow second tenors helped me become a better singer. Orpheus is a great community and these men are my brothers. We have a fantastic artistic director who brings out the best in us as singers and musicians. Our repertoire is diverse and our music is emotionally moving and fun.

Orpheus is a great group of guys singing great music. When I first joined in 1996, I was going through a separation that ended in divorce. I had arrived back in Phoenix and wanted to do something in music. The Yellow Pages led me to Orpheus. While I loved being in a musical group again, what surprised me was how excepting they were. They welcomed everyone. I found community.

Since before I joined, a goal of Orpheus was to sing great music well. There is something different and special about the sound of an all male chorus. The sound is so rich. Many of the chords are so yummy, I don't want them to end. Our music touches people. If you have not heard us, find us on YouTube, our Facebook page, or videos at orpheus.org. If you are a male who lives in the Phoenix metro area and can sing, come give us a try. Orpheus has had singers from age 17 to 93 years old.

What most people don't know about Orpheus is the outreach programs that we sponsor and take part in. Orpheus provides music scholarships for pre-college and college students. We annually sponsor the Men Do Sing music festival, inviting Junior high, high school, and college students to sing with a number of male chorus' in the Phoenix metro area. Those adult groups include the men of the Phoenix Choral. Each fall Orpheus holds a collaborative concert with the Phoenix Children's Choir. We sing to inner city schools through the Katsen Program. Orpheus has also done benefit concerts with and in support of other groups, like Sounds Academy and Rosie's House.

I could go on about touring and being chosen to sing at the Western Regional American Choral Director's Association twice, but I will stop here. Please come experience Orpheus. If you like what you hear help us continue our mission by becoming patrons, join us in song, or give a donation. We may just touch your heart.

We've been attending Orpheus concerts for more than a decade. Their performances are incredibly moving. We go to 4-5 holiday concerts every December and none compare to Orpheus!!

I have sung with the Orpheus Male Chorus as a Phoenix Children's Chorus member during their annual Men Do Sing festival (previously Boys to Men). It was an absolutely unforgettable experience that left a lasting impact on me. The opportunity to sing in a combined all-male chorus was nothing short of incredible. The sound we created together was rich, powerful, and unlike anything I had experienced before.

Beyond the music, the camaraderie and fellowship among the singers of all ages was truly special. Being surrounded by others who shared my passion for choral singing not only deepened my love for the art form but also pushed me to grow as a musician. The level of musicianship demanded from each of us was high, and that challenge significantly improved my own skills and confidence.

The combination of expert guidance, the inspiring atmosphere, and the sheer joy of singing with such a talented group made this festival a highlight in my musical journey. I highly recommend it to anyone looking to take their musicianship to the next level while building lifelong connections through the beauty of male chorus singing. Thank you Orpheus Male Chorus of Phoenix for providing this enriching singing opportunity for young men. As a college student now, I look back and realize how it helped affirm my commitment to choral music still today.

I began singing with the Male Orpheus Chorus of Phoenix in 2018 because I previously heard the chorus in the early 2000's and wanted to be part of that group. However, I didn't retire from healthcare until 2016, and that's when I had time to explore my many options including joining Orpheus.
Since I had no previous background or experience in singing, I had to work hard the first 2-3 years to get up to speed. I wanted to do more than just sing so I started to join committees and sit in on board meetings to learn what goes on beneath the surface.
I especially love the comradery and fellowship with the other men.
