It's amazing what a committed group of citizens can accomplish. The Orinda Community Foundation has been instrumental in making a difference. They have encouraged involvement from some of our youngest citizens through the kids triathlon and have partnered with the business community through the Orinda Chamber of Commerce. They have pulled together garden clubs, Orinda Rotary and local schools for an annual Community Action Day and so much more. We are privileged to have their vision, expertise and experience in making our beautiful town and even better place to live.
We founded The Orinda Community Foundation in early 2010 with the purpose of supporting projects and activities that enhance the quality of life in Orinda. Since then, we have raised over $160,00 to support diverse activities in the arts, community activities, beautification, and support for seniors and youth. These activities include a community wide cleanup day, youth singing performance and writing contests, rides for seniors, a Fourth of July parade and celebration, art acquisitions for public spaces, financial support for civic garden clubs, funding for concerts and opera in the park, lighting for a library art gallery, support for a food bank, a youth Shakespeare program,a youth triathlon, and support for the local chamber of commerce. We have also facilitated partnerships and connections among entities and individuals in Orinda to support these same goals.
All money raised goes back into the community. We have been fortunate to receive strong support from Orinda residents. It is wonderful to see Orindans of all ages, and their guests, gather at the Fourth of July parade, at concerts in the park, work together on the cleanup day, enjoy the Orinda Idol performance, admire the stands of daffodils and poppies, cheer the participants in the triathlon, and view art by local artists in the library gallery.
I am honored to be affiliated with Orinda Community Foundation (OCF) and have seen the fun and joy the organization has brought to the Orinda Community by supporting the arts, children programs, community projects and partnering with the clubs and associations that make Orinda such a wonderful community.
I have been associated with a number of the OCF events, including the Orinda Action Community Service Day as well as the NorCal Kids Triathlon. Both events engage the community in meaningful ways and raise funds for local student and senior groups as well as arts and other community-building programs. Funds raised are always used to support great causes and making lives better. Volunteers are always needed and this is a great organization to lend a hand to!
Orinda Community Foundation has accomplished much good in the short three years since its creation to enhance the quality of life in Orinda. In addition to the sponsored events such as the Orinda Action Day of community service, Orinda Everyday Heroes Golf fundraiser and NorCal Kids Triathlon, OCF partners with other nonprofits to sustain and promote community spirit such as the 4th of July Parade and Celebration. Most would agree that OCF has met or exceeded expectations in all areas. May it continue to have a long and successful future.
