Mission: Organization for tropical studies, inc. (ots) is a consortium that has grown to include more than 50 universities and research institutions from the united states, latin america, and australia. Ots was founded in 1963 to provide leadership in education, research, and the responsible use of natural resources in the tropics.
Programs: Educational programs: the organization conducts a number of educational programs, focused on understanding and sustaining tropical and sub-tropical ecosystems, including graduate courses for academic credit and undergraduate semester-abroad programs for credit through duke university. The organization also offers early and mid-career professional training for u. S. , latin american and african policy-makers and business and conservation professionals, informal science education for members of the public in the tropics and science programs for primary and secondary school teachers.
field stations: the organization operates three biological field stations in diverse ecological zones of costa rica (la selva, las cruces, and palo verde). These field stations are maintained to facilitate biological research and to conduct educational programs.
