Mission: As a champion of organic farmers across the U.S., we work to foster the improvement and widespread adoption of organic farming systems by cultivating organic research, education, and federal policies that bring more farmers and acreage into organic production.
Target demographics: organic farmers and researchers
Direct beneficiaries per year: 556 farmers and 270 researchers
Geographic areas served: the USA
Programs: National Research Initiatives: Through the National Organic Research Agenda, we gather insights from organic producers nationwide to inform our programs. Continuous feedback through surveys and listening sessions helps tailor our research and educational programs to meet regional organic farmer needs effectively. Farmer-Led, On-Farm Trials Support: Our Farmer-Led Trials (FLT) program empowers organic farmers to conduct practical research on their farms by providing technical and financial assistance. We foster a supportive environment for farmers to explore innovative solutions and share knowledge. Advocacy for Farmer-Centric Policies: OFRF advocates for farmer-centric policies by educating policymakers, USDA leaders, and Congressional members about the priorities of the organic farming sector. We train researchers as advocates, identify cosponsors for organic research bills, and engage with coalition partners in joint advocacy efforts. Farmer Educational Resource Creation: OFRF provides tailored technical assistance, translates research findings into accessible formats and languages, and facilitates networking sessions to support farmer-driven solutions. Soon, we will release an online content hub with science-based technical resources for farmers. Public Education on the Benefits of Organic: Through our messaging toolkit, we highlight how organic farming systems contribute to soil health, biodiversity, and climate resilience. By educating the public on the positive impacts of organic practices, we aim to inspire more individuals to support and adopt sustainable farming methods.
