I have had the privilege of working with Orant Charities, and I can confidently say that this is an organization that truly believes in their mission. They serve Malawi through their water and sanitation program, healthcare, agriculture, education, and business loans. They are a very well-rounded organization that is helping build the people of Malawi. They truly care about their donors and the people they help by nurturing the relationships they have with them. The team also displays strong leadership skills, so it is clear that the organization is in good hands.
I have personally seen the dedication and support that Orant has provided to the community. The empowerment of women is a main focus along with healthcare. Educating the younger generation allows for future generations to contribute , therefore the building of multiple school classrooms, libraries and multi-purpose buildings shared by the community is a vital part of the mission. Hard work makes the dream work.
Orant is a great benefit to a community of 50,000 people in Central Malawi. IT’s wholistic approach of providing medical care, access to clean water, micro loans and women’s education, and agricultural training aims at keeping people healthy and providing opportunities through education. they are striving to make this area sustainable successfully for the long term managed by Malawians. Also only 9%-10% of funds are used for management overhead. Every other penny goes toward creating and improving programs for the community.
What could be more important than educating and supporting women in one of the most under-resourced places in the world?! Orant also puts donations to work building healthcare capacity. We know that when well educated women and girls prosper whole societies are lifted out of poverty. Orant keeps in touch well with donors, uses and oversees funds wisely and responsibly, and does it all in the name of Jesus. Most importantly the local folks in Malawi are given the responsibility to direct the work there.
I am inspired by Orant Charities life saving work on behalf of those they serve in Malawi. Their commitment to local and sustainable programs, helps make a real and lasting impact on the lives of those who need it most of all.
As a Board member, I travel to Malawi once or twice a year. Every time that I travel to Malawi, I return with several interesting stories that I love to share with others. This trip we were able to take a long-time supporter with us. Jo Ann had never traveled to Africa, but she had been supporting our organization in several ways of the years. The Department of Health in Malawi requires that every new born who leaves our maternity ward must have a baby cap. Jo Ann heard about this requirement several years ago and she loves to crochet! She quickly organized her women’s church group to make baby caps for our newborns. For the past 5 years we have been taking these caps to Malawi for the newborns. We made sure that Jo Ann was able to visit our maternity ward several times while she was in Malawi, but her first visit to the Ward was very special! The first newborn that she met actually was wearing one of the baby caps that SHE had made! The smile on her face was PRICELESS! The smallest of gifts can mean so much!
