Orange County Women's Chorus

I joined the OCWC this season and was immediately welcomed with warm, loving, and safe arms by each member of this organization. I moved to Irvine just a month ago, so being able to call OC home and have an amazing group of strong & inspiring women to sing with has been a blessing. Thank you OCWC!!!

This choir is led by some of the most giving and driven ladies I've ever met, and the music is top-tier. What they do with their efforts goes unwasted in every area.

OCWC is an incredible group of women who have come together to amplify women's voices in music and share the gift of song with the community. As a member of the group since 2017, I can confidently say this is one of the most well-run organizations I have ever been a part of and they continually find success in reaching their goals.

I attended the chorus’s show, Arms, last season and it was phenomenal. Their message was inspiring and their voices brought me to tears. I wish we had more organizations like this to spread music and important stories around.

I finally had my first chance to see the OC Women's Chorus recently. What a delight! The pieces they chose to perform were energizing, thoughtful and beautiful. I love how the director explained and educated the audience about the pieces sung and how much fun the women were having on stage. Orange County Women’s Chorus is a warm and welcoming community of singers, who produce ethereal sounds under the direction of their exquisitely skilled and musical director. As an audience member, I’ve been both entertained and enthralled by a variety of lovely programming, ranging from lyrical folk song to high art, with some witty and wonderful solos and small groups added as a bonus. I’ve also had the honor of being commissioned to compose two pieces for them, and I was delighted both times with the result. Don’t miss out on the opportunity to experience this gem of a group!

I have participated as a donor and founding member of the Orange County Women’s chorus. Under the direction of internationally known conductor, Eliza Rubenstein, OCWC provides exciting, relevant, expertly interpreted choral enjoyment. The Orange County Women's Chorus greatly surpassed my expectations. Their sound, their leadership and their energy were all so amazing, you just knew this group was special. While I have only attended two concerts, I am hooked! I have been in choirs off and on my entire life, so appreciate so much the work they put in to perform at such a high level. Over the last 24 years, it has been a joy and privilege to attend concerts performed by the Orange County Women’s Chorus. This group has grown from excellent to dazzling in all aspects of its mission.

The creative crafting of each OCWC concert program and the directorial work by Maestra Eliza Rubenstein is phenomenal. Her informative and often amusing commentaries on the musical pieces, the composers and their historical contexts set the stage delightfully.

The wide-ranging array of music along with the cultural and language diversity expressed in the music presented by the OCWC is extraordinary. The mix of music from ancient to contemporary and the varied formats (full chorus, small group, soloist[s] with chorus) within the concert programs work beautifully.

It is a pleasure to see the obvious commitment, delight, and pride the choristers find in making glorious music and in their relationships with each other through the OCWC. Infused with generous spirits, the OCWC has invited other community-based singers and players of both traditional and unusual instruments to participate in individual OCWC concerts with lovely results. Every concert has been unique and powerful, warranting a lengthy, standing ovation.

As a great, non-profit organization, OCWC builds the future. This deep commitment is reflected in OCWC’s annual, female intern conductor training program. The OCWC has also commissioned and performed several new “treble” compositions, adding to the choral library for women. Hearing a commissioned piece introduced by the composer and played at an OCWC concert is a special joy, knowing it represents a gift to the whole world from the OCWC.

The OC Women’s Chorus takes a leading role in promoting music by women composers and women artists. Their concerts are always very diverse, with a wide variety of music.

It's been a while since I've been able to go to a concert from the OC Women's Chorus, mostly due to Covid lockdown and lingering concerns, but when I last went, I remember them being a skilled group with a talented conductor who performed a wide range of interesting choral music. They're also invested in being accessible and available to their local community. I'm planning to attend their next concert, for sure!

Laurel Chowdhury introduced me to the group about 5 years ago. I have seen many of their shows and love their passion and enthusiasm. Their knowledge and heartfelt love of music really shines through in all of their performances. I especially love their program " A Glass of Cabaret" last year. It was truly inspiring and soulful! What talented women. Absolutely recommend seeing the Orange County Women's choir when you get the chance!

I've been associated with the OCWC almost since its founding, and I can report that it's a real asset for musically-inclined women in Southern CA. I've made friends and networked there, discovered and performed all kinds of worthwhile music (both old and freshly composed), and gotten to know a whole new generation of women who are teaching music in Orange County schools and privately. We've trained many young women conductors, and offered opportunities to be part of a very professionally-run board--all in all, the OCWC offers many opportunities for women's friendship and advancement, in addition to some really exciting musical programming.

I’ve always been extraordinarily proud to be a member of this organization that functions so well both artistically and operationally. As our singing lives were changing so drastically in 2020, the artistic and operational leaders of the OCWC quickly found ways for us to gather, “sing”, and learn about how technology can help us create, collaborate and continue to use our voices both actually and figuratively. The result is allowing us to tap into the familiarity of commitment and camaraderie that help our chorus to continue to generate amazing music together. Our leaders are perfect examples of how talent, creativity and “thinking outside of the box” help to refocus energy and ingenuity to keep singers motivated to contribute to amazing virtual music for us and for our community.

Attending an OCWC concert is one of the best sources of entertainment in Orange County! Every concert is designed with a creative eye that incorporates rich themes, a variety of cultures, and a mix of the old and new. The performances are always brilliant and supported by a loyal audience with members who end up on their feet cheering at the end of every concert. Eliza Rubenstein's passion and joy for choral music permeates throughout the audience as she introduces the background of variety of pieces performed. My husband and I have attended OCWC concerts for the past seventeen years and after each concert, we leave feeling enriched by what we have experienced.

I am a music teacher and I love being a part of the OCWC. Before I was a singer in this group, I was a fan for years. What I love most besides being in a community of good people is the wide range of beautiful music and being surrounded by such talented women. I love that our concerts are full of music by women and people of color, and that we always have something meaningful to communicate!

As a singer and volunteer with the Orange County Women's Chorus for over twenty years, I am continually uplifted by this group. Eliza Rubenstein selects quality music from many eras and cultures. I've been an OCWC ticket holder and donor from the beginning, watching my best friend Mary Langsdorf bring unique, creative, feminist music to life in Orange County. My favorite part of any performance is Artistic Director Eliza Rubenstein's commentary on each piece followed by glorious voices. My second favorite thing is the English translations in the programs, providing another way to enjoy music sung in another language.

When I donate to OCWC, I know that these funds are supporting the mission of the organization, to create and perform outstanding choral literature, engage and enrich audiences, and celebrate women in music. Donations provide for commissioned works, instrumentalists, artistic and administrative leadership compensation as well as supplement the costs the singers bear to bring this music to us.

Orange County Women's Chorus provides our community with top-notch choral concerts. The concert themes are relevant and varied. The gifted singers possess beautiful voices that are woven together by their talented director. Each concert is a not to be missed experience unto itself. A very special chorus group that specializes in pieces that are sometimes very esoteric and an eye-opener to those who had not heard these pieces previously. The level of singing is astonishingly superb for a group that is comprised mainly of working people. The professionalism and cohesiveness of this group really translate to excellent performances.

The Orange County Women's Chorus is an amazing ensemble of about forty singers with a dynamo for a director. I've learned a lot about music through attending their concerts. The pieces they choose are diverse in origin and language. Their holiday concerts in particular will get you in the spirit of the season, no matter what you celebrate in December!

At all the Orange County Women's Chorus concerts that I've attended, one of the outstanding features has been the great variety of music presented--from Baroque masterpieces to works by contemporary composers commissioned expressly for the group, and from arrangements of folk and popular song from many cultures to pieces by professional musicians. A December concert is not just the same Christmas carols every year--there is always something new presented in the program notes, conductor's remarks, and expert performance by well-rehearsed singers.

Orange County Women's Chorus is a wonderful vocal group, connected to the local community. Their concerts are always fun and charged with positive energy. The group produces both regular concerts and seasonal "themed" events around Christmas and other holidays, sings unaccompanied songs and accompanied, performs traditional and contemporary songs of all styles and genres. Great concerts for all who love choral music; great for families - the atmosphere at the concerts is always welcoming and comforting.

Over the last 19 years, it has been a joy beyond words to be an audience member of and donor to the Orange County Women’s Chorus. Their concerts are exquisitely crafted with gorgeous, multicultural, multilingual music that ranges from medieval to modern. Not only do the choristers sing currently available music, the OCWC also commissions new works, adding to the treble canon. Each creatively themed concert seems to hold an anchor piece that is wonderfully bold or that incorporates an unusual instrument. The music so beautifully sung by these OCWC choristers can be very powerful and deeply moving.

In addition to the power and beauty of their music, the OCWC group’s commitment to the community and to making a difference in the community is awesome! For many concerts, they have partnered with other community-based but often less well-known groups, thereby bringing these other groups to the attention of music-loving audiences. They provide a conducting internship and scholarships to gifted singers whose resources are limited. Their ticket prices are reasonable and reduced for seniors.

The OCWC is blessed to have Eliza Rubenstein as their conductor. She is a brilliant conductor and a marvelous educator. At each concert, her presentation of the history of the music and the composers is edifying and delightfully laced with humor. The leadership of the OCWC Board, headed by Mary Langsdorf, is truly exceptional to have built and sustained such a remarkable musical group that continues to raise the performance bar each year. --

I have been singing with this chorus for 15 years, and it is one of the best experiences of my life. This group sings with passion, musicality, heart, and social consciousness, providing a transcendent experience for both performer and audience alike.

I've been a fan of this chorus for nearly 20 years. Their clear, pure sound is always a joy, and their repertoire is varied, international, and fresh. The OCWC is such a vibrant and talented ensemble! My husband and I have enjoyed attending their concerts over the past few years. The diversity of the music they perform is quite amazing spanning from classic requiems to Broadway musical songs. It is such a treat to have access to this level of wonderful music right in our "backyard".

I had the privilege of singing 10 years with the OCWC and then off and on for a few seasons as I had time. I have been attending their concerts for the last 3 years and they are as marvelous as ever. They have great blend, wonderful dynamics, and song selections, as always, surpasses expectations. You can't get better than this. I've been attending concerts put on by the Orange County Womens Chorus for several years now. They are a top notch organization and every concert is a wonderful and unique experience. I love that they feature and promote female musicians. Their musical selections are always intriguing and open my eyes to different styles of music. I joined the OCWC in September 2016. The chorus members, Board Members and conductor have all been such wonderfully welcoming. The music is challenging, diverse and interesting. Orange County Women's Chorus is a very Well-Organized for each Concert they give from their rehearsals to door opens, from the first note they sing to the last when they perform at any venues! The reception after their concert is always fun to stay, talk with singers and musicians, also a good place to meet with old and new friends who love and enjoy wonderful choral music!

I was so impressed by the Orange County Women's Chorus at a concert that I auditioned to sing with them the following August. This is my second season as a member, and I couldn't be happier. Every rehearsal and concert is such a pleasure that the time I volunteer doesn't feel like a sacrifice. The women within the chorus have created a wonderful community of mutual support, and I am very privileged to be a part of it.

The Orange County Women's Chorus provides exceptional performances of music across a wide selection of genre, from across the centuries and in many languages. The chorus sings with great technical expertise and with feeling and downright joy. Eliza Rubenstein brings out the best from each performer and melds the voices together into a cohesive whole. She is also a genius at programming.
I always find each concert to be a learning experience through Eliza's introductions to each piece, including background on the composer. The chorus' service also extends to the conductor intern program, in which they provide a gifted young woman an opportunity to work with a group of dedicated performers. Well done!

Their music represents a wonderful range of genres and composers, always beautifully performed under the dynamic direction of Eliza Rubenstein. It's terrific to see--and hear--a group of women of various ages and interests come together to produce lovely sound.

This group of talented women and their director are impressive and a pleasure to hear. They constantly present quality music to the Orange County community, and I especially appreciate their commitment to highlighting women composers!

This amazing group of musically gifted women serves the Orange County community with expressive vocal renditions of a broad array of classical and modern pieces. Their director has a knack for bringing out the best in them. Additionally, she brings her own gift of creative and lively verbal communication skills to the listening audience, providing background on each piece to paint a picture as to what brought about the creation of each. Outside performers are also brought in to many of the performances to add more variety and depth to the choral programs which are presented three times a year.

I feel blessed and fortunate to have become involved in supporting this group to the continue their excellent work making beautiful music and causing lots of "treble" in OC!

This is a fabulous group of women led by an amazing director. They are meticulous in their preparation of wide variety of music. Everyone should get to hear them. I wish they could do a concert a month but this is not their full time job- they obviously do it for the love of singing.

Singing with the Orange County Women's Chorus is a privilege. The organization brings together an outstanding group of talented women, and under our Artistic Director Eliza Rubenstein, we nourish the souls of the audience that follows the group closely. The OCWC has become one of the leading choruses in Southern California, and this honor comes thanks to the hard work and commitment of many people -- all volunteers who work together for the love of music and community. The OCWC is an excellent example of what can be done through cooperation.

OCWC is an amazing group of women doing so much more than just providing extraordinary musical performances. Their drive to achieve the highest musical standards has inspired me to re-develop a skill that I hadn't used in years. It is wonderful to have art as a meaningful part of my life again, and I couldn't have done it without their support and enthusiasm.

I am honored to be both a singer and a board member with this group. On a weekly basis, I am surrounded by women who are dedicated to excellence, community, diversity, and leadership. We sing together and we support one another. Very few of us are professional musicians--and none of us are paid to sing with this group--but we are all committed to performing at the highest level of artistry, and to bringing music to Orange County that is rarely heard. We offer opportunities to promising young women conductors through our conducting internship program, and we are committed to adding music to the treble repertoire through commissioning. Best of all, we have fun! No matter what has happened in the days and hours leading to the weekly rehearsal, my spirit soars by the time we conclude. Thank you for feeding my soul for 16 years. I look forward to more to come!

The Orange County Women's Chorus is a group of extremely dedicated women who give their gift of voice each and every season they perform for the Orange County community and more!

OCWC is an outstanding group of women on and off the stage. They serve as amazing role models for the young women who volunteer at their powerful performances.

OCWC is the best!!! Their powerful, unique sound encapsulates the beauty of the feminine spirit. The Director Eliza has the ability to bring out such an amazing sound in these women; you will likely be brought to tears, or at least goose bumps down your entire body! I ALWAYS try to make it out to their concerts -- they're simply the best in town. At the risk of being redundant, they're one of the top choirs I've ever heard in my life!
(I heard them perform Mozart's Requiem a couple of years back... life changing.)
Money well spent if you send it their way! If you believe in the importance of quality music in your community, then put your money where your mouth is! :)

Led by one of the most gifted musicians around, the OCWC is an outstanding group which offers vibrant, challenging, and impressive performances. I had the opportunity of being in the group for half of a season and learned so much musically and personally. Eliza is an outstanding director and amazing person. Her leadership and the commitment of each member is manifested in each performance. They are a wonderful chorus!

The OCWC continues to amaze me with its versatility and range. The group always tackles the most difficult pieces and does a masterful job with all of them. It is easy to forget that this talented, professional, experienced group of vocalists are all volunteers with day jobs. Kudos to all of them.

The OCWC performs a wide variety of music. Performances are always impeccably prepared and presented. This is a well-polished group, led by an inspired conductor.

I've had the opportunity to watch the Orange County Women's Chorus grow through the years and feel they occupy a unique niche in the region's musical landscape. I have always been impressed with Eliza Rubenstein's imaginative programming and with standards she sets for her singers. There is a strong sense of mission that is shared by the Artistic Director, Board members and singers alike. And the organization has approached its growth to date with warmth, intelligence, tenacity and professionalism.

No matter the season, no matter the theme, I know that whatever the Orange County Women's Chorus presents will be fresh, melodic, often witty, sometimes unexpectedly humor-filled, and absolutely professional in presentation. Under Eliza Rubenstein's superb direction this chorus SINGS--and clearly has a great time doing so. I always look forward to hearing little-known pieces that Eliza has discovered and new pieces that the chorus has commissioned. Definitely a 5-star group that deserves and will use responsibly any grant that it receives and that merits wide recognition.

The OCWC makes me want to sing. As a singer and former choir member I tend to be highly critical of choral groups and my attention to mistakes often gets in the way of enjoying the music. The Orange County Womens Chorus gives me no room to criticize. Every time I hear them, instead of finding issues with their performance, I desperately want to sing with them. Their attention to detail and sensitivty to dynamics is a pleasure to listen to. I'm pleased and proud to be a part of an organization that creates such a wonderful 'product' capable of touching so many.

I've attended most of the OCWC's performances over the last few years, and I always leave afterward with surpassed expectations and new appreciations. I'm a non-musician, and one who loves but is sometimes intimidated by classical music. For me, the OCWC's programs are invariably accessible and engaging, and are as creatively designed as they are beautifully executed. This group is truly a community treasure.

This chorus is one of the most professional and fun choruses I have ever heard. The women are friendly and can make some fantastic music!

I was singing in a church choir for many years. The opportunity came up for me to join up with some of the church women and start an "all woman" singing group. There wasn't another in Orange County, and as far as I know, outside of High School groups, it still is the only one. The OCWC is a unique experience, with no low (men) voices, and equally unique as we find music not heard in other choral offerings, since it is written specifically for women! I especially enjoy the fact that we perform music for women written by women. It has been said that music soothes the "savage beast". I can say, there is nothing better than to have beautiful women voices doing the "soothing"!

The Orange County Womens Chorus offers a unique opportunity to women in the community who enjoy the challenge of singing in a near-professional chorus, and who are able to make the commitment to do so. I believe my experience is somewhat representative: I minored in music in college, and then went into another field in graduate school, later becoming a professional woman in the community. During my adult life, I have sung in numerous church choirs, community college choirs, and other venues. However, it was difficult to find a choir that challenged my musical abilities and stretched me much further. OCWC does just that. It's an amazing opportunity. I am committed to helping it to prosper and reach into the lives of others. It's a gem.

The OC Women's Chorus brings wonderful music to communities all around the Orange County area. Their concerts are a mixture of well known classical performances alongside commissioned compositions from modern musicians. After being dazzled by a number of their concerts, I decided to get to know the organization and was delighted to discover the amazing breadth of experience, talent, integrity, and perseverance that exists within its board. This is truly a standout arts organization that deserves its bright reputation.
