Attending an OCWC concert is one of the best sources of entertainment in Orange County! Every concert is designed with a creative eye that incorporates rich themes, a variety of cultures, and a mix of the old and new. The performances are always brilliant and supported by a loyal audience with members who end up on their feet cheering at the end of every concert. Eliza Rubenstein's passion and joy for choral music permeates throughout the audience as she introduces the background of variety of pieces performed. My husband and I have attended OCWC concerts for the past seventeen years and after each concert, we leave feeling enriched by what we have experienced.
Audiences are wowed by the Orange County Women's chorus and its amazing sound and repertoire. But did you know that they have a conducting intern program? There are far too few women choral conductors, and the OCWC is working directly to improve this situation. Under this program, a woman conductor in the early part of her career is selected to work with the OCWC for a year, and to learn from its conductor Eliza Rubenstein. This program has helped launch some extraordinary talent, and is helping bring equity to the choral world. Now that is worth a round of applause!
The Orange County Women's Chorus is a great musical organization that presents wonderful concerts at a very high level of musicianship. It also educates the public about some lesser known composers and works, presents work by women composers, and has a conducting internship program for aspiring women conductors.
I’ve always been extraordinarily proud to be a member of this organization that functions so well both artistically and operationally. As our singing lives were changing so drastically in 2020, the artistic and operational leaders of the OCWC quickly found ways for us to gather, “sing”, and learn about how technology can help us create, collaborate and continue to use our voices both actually and figuratively. The result is allowing us to tap into the familiarity of commitment and camaraderie that help our chorus to continue to generate amazing music together. Our leaders are perfect examples of how talent, creativity and “thinking outside of the box” help to refocus energy and ingenuity to keep singers motivated to contribute to amazing virtual music for us and for our community.
The Orange County Women's Chorus is the epitome of a caring community organization. I was on leave last season because of a debilitating health issue. Not only did my sister singers come to visit me, they supported me in so many other ways including sending singing get well messages from Tuesday rehearsals. Their support efforts made all the difference in my ability to get through the 15 months of my health struggle. I am so very happy to be back this season singing with the most caring and marvelously talented group of singers and again feeling the great joy of creating incredibly beautiful music together.
I am a music teacher and I love being a part of the OCWC. Before I was a singer in this group, I was a fan for years. What I love most besides being in a community of good people is the wide range of beautiful music and being surrounded by such talented women. I love that our concerts are full of music by women and people of color, and that we always have something meaningful to communicate!
As a singer and volunteer with the Orange County Women's Chorus for over twenty years, I am continually uplifted by this group. Eliza Rubenstein selects quality music from many eras and cultures. She gives singers and audiences rich and varied choral experiences. The singers represent different occupations, ages, and cultures, and work together with dedication and love. Listeners always comment on the pure, beautiful sound of the Chorus.
I've been an OCWC ticket holder and donor from the beginning, watching my best friend Mary Langsdorf bring unique, creative, feminist music to life in Orange County. My favorite part of any performance is Artistic Director Eliza Rubenstein's commentary on each piece followed by glorious voices. My second favorite thing is the English translations in the programs, providing another way to enjoy music sung in another language.
When I donate to OCWC, I know that these funds are supporting the mission of the organization, to create and perform outstanding choral literature, engage and enrich audiences, and celebrate women in music. Donations provide for commissioned works, instrumentalists, artistic and administrative leadership compensation as well as supplement the costs the singers bear to bring this music to us.
Orange County Women's Chorus provides our community with top-notch choral concerts. The concert themes are relevant and varied. The gifted singers possess beautiful voices that are woven together by their talented director. Each concert is a not to be missed experience unto itself. I have enjoyed each and every concert I have attended and can't wait for their next season!
After two decades, the Orange County Women's Chorus continues to impress and delight audiences with their musicianship. The music they share with their audiences ranges from classics to contemporary, and the music comes from composers around the world.
I am a proud member and serve on the board of the OCWC. The level of professionalism and artistic direction of this organization astounds me. It is wonderful to be a part of this group and to share our gift of music with the community.
I am a founding member of OCWC. The organization has grown from a small group of like minded women to an ensemble of 50+ singers. Our director, Eliza Rubenstein, has become a welk respected internationally recognized director. I couldn’t be prouder of this organization.
I heard this group sing for the first time at their December concert last year (2019). I was blown away! By their sound, their pitch-perfect harmonies, their sheer musicality, the diversity of their repertoire, the joy they radiated. You could tell they delighted in singing together and in using their music to reach the hearts of their audience. I knew I wanted to join this group! Eight months later, in the midst of social distancing, Zoom rehearsals and virtual concerts, I got my wish! As a new member, I am equally impressed with how well-organized they are and with their sincere friendliness. A five-star quality group in all respects!
Orange County Women's Chorus is such a phenomenal organization! Right now, they are connecting with singers around the country through their virtual rehearsals. What a joy it has been to sing with others. We also recently met the musical composer of one of the new works we will be premiering soon. The conversations we had, and the impact that I am sure we will make on an audience, are so necessary for today's troubling world. I am so lucky to be a member of such a highly compassionate and musically-excellent community!
What an inspiration this group is! This group provides a creative and artistic outlet for professional women in Orange County, and they also make great music! Orange County Women's Chorus is a thoughtful, inclusive and professional organization that provides a welcoming atmosphere for women of all ages. Their concerts are not to be missed!
Orange County Women’s Chorus has been an incredibly life giving experience. The leaders and participants in OCWC have serving hearts. They care deeply about their community and world events. They change, heal and inspire others through their music making.
This organization not only creates beautiful music, but they also have created a beautiful community! Anyone looking for superb music and friendship should check them out!
As a nonprofit, they also support causes that are important to me. Helping young conductors break the glass ceiling is such an underrated part of their mission! I donate to the conducting internship every chance I get.
I was lucky enough to join the OCWC three years ago and joined the board this year. It has been a joy and honor to sing alongside this talented group of women and to volunteer my time towards helping the organization grow.
I joined the Orange County Women's Chorus for the 2017/2018 season and couldn't be more thrilled to continue this year. Making music with these talented women under the direction of the amazing Eliza Rubenstien brings so much joy to my life. It is a pleasure to practice, rehearse and preform with this group.
The OC Women’s Chorus is such a wonderful group of talented singers. I’ve been to several of their concerts, and they always sing high-quality literature with character and emotion. As a music teacher, I love sending my students to these performances as an example of musical excellence. I look forward to their concerts every year!
I have been attending OCWC concerts for the last five years, and I'm amazed at the variety and risks they take in their music choices. Eliza Rubenstein picks difficult music for the group, and they deliver. The soloists are generally excellent, and I very much enjoy the 4 member Barbershop Quartet.
I look forward to their concert in December.
Their associations with other chorale groups in the area has always brought terrific results, and their
I attended a few shows and they were amazing. The songs were great and the singers were awesome. I really enjoy the variety in the music.
A very special chorus group that specializes in pieces that are sometimes very esoteric and an eye-opener to those who had not heard these pieces previously. The level of singing is astonishingly superb for a group that is comprised mainly of working people. The professionalism and cohesiveness of this group really translate to excellent performances.
I have been a singer with the Orange County Women's Chorus for ten years now and I find that I love this group more each year and we keep getting better and better! We continue to empower and celebrate women in music by offering our Conducting Internship program for a young, female conductor, we commission new works for women's voices, and we offer scholarships to make it possible for all qualified women to join our group and even go on tour with us! We sing a wide variety of music, immersing the audience into a specific culture, idea or topic, many times exposing our audience to new ideas or alternate points of view. There is always something for everyone on each concert and there will also be at least one piece you may have never heard before!
I have been a singer for 8 years in this group and a board member for 5. I can't say enough about how much I love this chorus! We sing such a wide variety of music at a very high level - not like a typical community women's chorus. We create opportunities to empower women through music with our Conducting Internship Program and commissioning new works (many times by female composers) for women's voices. Eliza Rubenstein, Artistic Director, and Sarah Hughes, Assistant Director, are both fantastic! The innovative programming that they both produce is truly inspiring, and can be used as an example for other women's chorus'. The board is the most functional, happy and hard working board I have had the pleasure to work with. And the singers come from all types of backgrounds and ages, yet can sing and read music at a very high level. Many have become my good friends and we enjoy traveling on choir tours together and partaking in a variety of social events throughout the season.
I have attended several of the OCWC's performances over the last few years and have never failed to be entertained, impressed, and usually stunned by their outstanding talent. The director, Eliza, is educated and spontaneous in her descriptions of the music they present, so the experience is always as educational as it is engaging. Highly recommended!
When I arrived the day of the concert, everything was already good to go from a managerial perspective. Organizers were early and ready to give clear directions for what the group of us needed to do for the concert space to be prepared, and overall I did not feel an ounce of stress due to the positive environment the whole staff put out. It was wonderful to work with this group!
Thank you so much for this review! We're delighted that you enjoyed your volunteer experience and hope you'll join us again.
It's an honor to be a member of the Orange County Women's Chorus! This is an amazing musical organization that not only offers some of the best performances of a wide variety of music, but also works to support and encourage women conductors and composers. The singers are women from all walks of life who come together in their limited free time to make music together. We are led by our talented conductor Eliza Rubenstein whose dedication to this group and to producing the best music possible knows no bounds. If you haven't heard us yet, I invite you to check out one of our concerts!
The Orange County Women's Chorus is an invaluable creative community in Southern California. I started singing with the group last year and was impressed with the level of commitment and musicianship of its members. Eliza challenges us to be the best musicians we can be and her dynamic repertoire choices keep both the singers and audiences continually engaged.
I could not be happier as a member of this AMAZING group of women. The strong connection within as well as outside of the music is something to be treasured. What has been cultivated within OC Women’s Chorus is something so special, after having experienced it, that I could never go without!
This is my 4th Season with the OCWC & I've stayed for the sense of family, friendship, & support in addition to the standard of musical excellence Eliza holds us to. I also very much enjoy the variety of music we perform & our mission to support women in all aspects of music. Having been in choirs my whole life, the OCWC may be the most musically & personally rewarding of them all.
I joined this group because I missed having music in my life and I am so glad I did!! I not only found a group of strong singers who aim for the perfect sound at every rehearsal, I found a community of amazing women who aways show their love for music and for each other.
I've been going to the OC Women's Chorus concerts for the last few years. They always provide an interesting experience - music, history and context. It's a really great group to get exposed to new music with!
The Orange County Women's Chorus is an amazing ensemble of about forty singers with a dynamo for a director. I've learned a lot about music through attending their concerts. The pieces they choose are diverse in origin and language. Their holiday concerts in particular will get you in the spirit of the season, no matter what you celebrate in December!
Wonderful group which is really integrated in the community. Their leader is super enthusiastic and brings tons of energy and joy into the music making, programming and communication with audiences.
At all the Orange County Women's Chorus concerts that I've attended, one of the outstanding features has been the great variety of music presented--from Baroque masterpieces to works by contemporary composers commissioned expressly for the group, and from arrangements of folk and popular song from many cultures to pieces by professional musicians. A December concert is not just the same Christmas carols every year--there is always something new presented in the program notes, conductor's remarks, and expert performance by well-rehearsed singers.
Orange County Women's Chorus is a wonderful vocal group, connected to the local community. Their concerts are always fun and charged with positive energy. The group produces both regular concerts and seasonal "themed" events around Christmas and other holidays, sings unaccompanied songs and accompanied, performs traditional and contemporary songs of all styles and genres. Great concerts for all who love choral music; great for families - the atmosphere at the concerts is always welcoming and comforting.
Over the last 19 years, it has been a joy beyond words to be an audience member of and donor to the Orange County Women’s Chorus. Their concerts are exquisitely crafted with gorgeous, multicultural, multilingual music that ranges from medieval to modern. Not only do the choristers sing currently available music, the OCWC also commissions new works, adding to the treble canon. Each creatively themed concert seems to hold an anchor piece that is wonderfully bold or that incorporates an unusual instrument. The music so beautifully sung by these OCWC choristers can be very powerful and deeply moving.
In addition to the power and beauty of their music, the OCWC group’s commitment to the community and to making a difference in the community is awesome! For many concerts, they have partnered with other community-based but often less well-known groups, thereby bringing these other groups to the attention of music-loving audiences. They provide a conducting internship and scholarships to gifted singers whose resources are limited. Their ticket prices are reasonable and reduced for seniors.
The OCWC is blessed to have Eliza Rubenstein as their conductor. She is a brilliant conductor and a marvelous educator. At each concert, her presentation of the history of the music and the composers is edifying and delightfully laced with humor. The leadership of the OCWC Board, headed by Mary Langsdorf, is truly exceptional to have built and sustained such a remarkable musical group that continues to raise the performance bar each year. --
I have been singing with this chorus for 15 years, and it is one of the best experiences of my life. This group sings with passion, musicality, heart, and social consciousness, providing a transcendent experience for both performer and audience alike.
I've been a fan of this chorus for nearly 20 years. Their clear, pure sound is always a joy, and their repertoire is varied, international, and fresh. Maestra Eliza Rubenstein's introductions to performances teach me so much about music and culture. The singer-volunteers in this group have built a wonderfully strong organization!
The OCWC is such a vibrant and talented ensemble! My husband and I have enjoyed attending their concerts over the past few years. The diversity of the music they perform is quite amazing spanning from classic requiems to Broadway musical songs. It is such a treat to have access to this level of wonderful music right in our "backyard".
Not only is this an amazing choir, but it is an amazing nonprofit that does amazing work. All of the board members go above and beyond, and the volunteers too! If you are looking for an fulfilling way to help your community look no further.
As a singer, volunteer, and past Board Member, I can proudly say this is an incredibly talented group with exceptional leadership in all areas. From artistic direction to day-to-day operations to performing, I have been extremely fortunate to be a member of this very dedicated group of women.
I knew joining this group would push me to reach new levels of singing performance, and I was right! The professionalism of the entire organization is felt from rehearsals to performance to "behind the scenes" Board meetings and organizational planning. This is a truly exceptional group of women, and I am proud to sing and serve with the OCWC.
They always play beautiful harmony in their performances. I enjoy them every time I go to their concerts.
It is such a privilege to not only volunteer for this wonderful group of women, but also sing with them. They have become like any extended family who creates beautiful music together. I look forward to every opportunity to serve and every weekly rehearsal.
I'm both a volunteer & chorus member for OCWC. This is a great group of women who strive to make beautiful music while also developing a great support system for all its members. They almost feel like family & in fact several of them have become my closest friends. Not only are they dedicated to the music, they are dedicated to supporting amazing causes in the community & beyond by participating in fundraiser walks for cancer & other such events in addition to supporting women composers & conductors.
I have sung with this organization for 20 years. I love the way we sing music that is rarely heard, but can be powerful. We have a position for a female conducting intern. It allows us to be active in furthering the career of a woman. I've invited friends to hear us and once they have been present at our performances they return over and over again without my asking. The Chorus is a professional level production available to the community at reasonable prices.
Over the last eighteen years, Orange County Women's Chorus has become the premier treble chorus in Southern California. People still go to performances because they are friends of singers but come back repeatedly because of the excellence of the group. It is the most important vocal ensemble you will ever experience. They work hard to find affordable venues with excellent sound. You can afford to experience incredible music. Just go to: www.ocwomenschorus.org and purchase a season ticket.
I've had the pleasure of going to an Orange County Women's Chorus performance twice now and both times were truly exceptional. So much talent and passion! As a bonus, the silent auctions featured really great gifts as well! I definitely recommend going to see one of their performances - you will not be disappointed!
Performing with the OCWC is an absolute joy, and something I look forward to whenever I get the opportunity. Eliza is an amazing leader and conductor, and the group performs a wide variety of literature, always at the highest level.
I had the privilege of singing 10 years with the OCWC and then off and on for a few seasons as I had time. I have been attending their concerts for the last 3 years and they are as marvelous as ever. They have great blend, wonderful dynamics, and song selections, as always, surpasses expectations. You can't get better than this. They "communicate" real music and make it come alive for the audience.
I've been attending concerts put on by the Orange County Womens Chorus for several years now. They are a top notch organization and every concert is a wonderful and unique experience. I love that they feature and promote female musicians. Their musical selections are always intriguing and open my eyes to different styles of music. Since I enjoy their concerts so much, I felt that they were a worthy charitable organization to donate to.
I joined the OCWC in September 2016. The chorus members, Board Members and conductor have all been such wonderfully welcoming. The music is challenging, diverse and interesting. The organization is extremely well run and organized. It has been a true pleasure and I am so grateful to his group for bringing me the joy of music back into my life!
Even if I had not been a member of this group, it is still precisely the type of organization I would wish to support. Not only does this group of all-volunteer singers bring outstanding music to the public (and at a much higher level than one might suppose for a non-professional ensemble), but they also live their mission: to promote women in music. A conducting internship, commissioned works, and a vast library of pieces by women composers all enhance their importance to the musical community and the public. But OCWC is not just a choir; it is a community. Singers genuinely support one another, both "on and off the stage," inside and outside of rehearsals, in both musical and personal endeavors.
What a privilege it is to sing with the Orange County Women's Chorus! The range of repertoire is amazing--music from classical to contemporary, in many languages, and featuring many women composers. Eliza Rubenstein is a genius for putting together programs and in connecting with audiences. Friends who come to the concerts always comment on the artistry and pure sound of the chorus.
What a privilege it is to sing with this dedicated and lovely group of women. I appreciate the diversity in backgrounds, ages, education--all coming together to not only make beautiful music but to share it with those around us. Each season we set our goals a little higher and then strive to attain them--that's devotion. On a personal level, I consider the women who make up OCWC my friends as well as my co-singers....such an honor to be a part of this amazing group.
I joined OCWC when I moved to Orange County. Not only did I make instant friends, but every week I get to make quality music with creative, intelligent, driven women. Each season we push the boundary of what is possible for a community chorus, not only with out music, but in outreach as well. Nothing unites people in quite the same way that music (particularly choral music!) does.
Orange County Women's Chorus is a very Well-Organized for each Concert they give from their rehearsals to door opens, from the first note they sing to the last when they perform at any venues! The reception after their concert is always fun to stay, talk with singers and musicians, also a good place to meet with old and new friends who love and enjoy wonderful choral music!
The OC women's chorus brings together women young to not-so-young, to share their love and passionate for the great art of song. They do this in concert with a passionthat is seen, heard and felt.
OCWC is an amazing organization that promotes women in music. Not only is it a warm and welcoming community of women, but it is also educational and thought-provoking. If you are looking for an organization that makes a real impact in the world of music, look no further!
I was so impressed by the Orange County Women's Chorus at a concert that I auditioned to sing with them the following August. This is my second season as a member, and I couldn't be happier. Every rehearsal and concert is such a pleasure that the time I volunteer doesn't feel like a sacrifice. The women within the chorus have created a wonderful community of mutual support, and I am very privileged to be a part of it.
You cannot imagine how wonderful it was to see this group perform in Wales this past summer and to know they are right here in our area to enjoy! I am purchasing a season ticket this week. Please take the time to experience our Orange County talent.
A well organized organization for both singing members and audience.
Concerts offer versatile, artistic, and enjoyable programs and performance every time.
Many who come to hear the OCWC expecting the usual go home very surprised at the sheer quality of this community chorus.
The choir is extremely well-organized and the conductor is fantastic. This is also a very talented group of woman who are positive and supportive of each other. If there ever was a winning formula, this is it!
This amazing group of women has brought me so much enjoyment over the years. They perform the best music & support both emerging & lesser known women composers.
The Orange County Women's Chorus has been presenting fantastic concerts for 18 seasons. The music spans the globe, often featuring new work by women composers as well as quality music for women's voices from Hildegard of Bingen to Brahms to Poulenc. The artistic director and singers really connect with their audiences!
A wonderful group of women with various back ground uniting different colors of voices and making one beautiful harmony.
Orange County Womens Chorus is a awesome community of singers dedicated to making beautiful music as well as sisterhood. I enjoy my time volunteering for the group. The women are talented. Every concert performed is fulfilling.
I joined this group to continue challenging myself to be a better singer. The repertoire we sing, and the standards our director, Eliza, expects us to uphold certainly has improved my skills as a singer. This is a great organization for the community, both for singers and listeners!
The Orange County Women's Chorus provides exceptional performances of music across a wide selection of genre, from across the centuries and in many languages. The chorus sings with great technical expertise and with feeling and downright joy. Eliza Rubenstein brings out the best from each performer and melds the voices together into a cohesive whole. She is also a genius at programming.
I always find each concert to be a learning experience through Eliza's introductions to each piece, including background on the composer. The chorus' service also extends to the conductor intern program, in which they provide a gifted young woman an opportunity to work with a group of dedicated performers. Well done!
