Mission: Orange County Amateur Radio Emergency Service (ARES), a volunteer group of FCC licensed amateur radio operators, providing emergency support communications for Orange County in the event of local disasters and regional mutual aid. We are part of the national amateur radio emergency preparedness organization sponsored by the American Radio Relay League (ARRL). Training activities include emergency communication drills and related public service events in Orange County, NY as well as inter-county ARES training sessions. Membership in the ARRL is not required for amateur radio operator to be an ARES member. The mission of the Orange County ARES is to promote emergency and public service communications in Orange County, New York. Orange County ARES is dedicated to serving as the communications backbone during any disaster or disruption of normal communications channels. The organization also serves as the Skywarn spotter network for the Orange County area. Orange County ARES cooperates with local emergency management and other public service agencies needing assistance during a disaster.
