I love the OHouse Thrift Store!!
I donate there regularly and love that: 1) it's a local spot and everything stays local, 2) they take anything, and 3) the folks that work the drop off zone are always there with a smile and willing to help you unload your car. Doesn't hurt that it's a tax write-off, either ;-)
As for shopping, I've found some screaming deals on furniture, house goods, as well as costume clothes. You can't beat the prices at any other Vacaville thrift shop.
I also decorate a mini-tree every year for the Festival of Trees. I LOVE shopping here for my tree decor ... and the fact that they give anything from the store to you for free (if it's for your tree) totally helps.
I have donated here and sometimes I shop here, the people are always friendly and most importantly your donation stays local!
It has been an amazing experience working with other volunteers in order to make Opportunity House such a success. So many dedicated professionals in Vacaville offer their expertise to make this life-changing program possible. Everyone is so blessed to hear how so many of the clients are able to find work soon after moving into the Opportunity House and to learn of parents being reunited with their children.
As others have shared, the Opportunity House Thrift Store is a great place for rummaging and finding good deals, especially on the third Sunday of the month - discount Sunday. In addition, there are the semi-annual jewelry days that are my favorite. The best part about the thrift store, though, is knowing it all goes to a great cause, supporting one of the best homeless/transitional programs in the country.
I shop at the Vacaville Opportunity House Thrift Store on Peabody Rd. in Vacaville almost every week because it's FUN to find useful, clever, beautiful and crazy things that enrich my family's life and make us smile. I'm always on "the hunt" for certain treasures, and I am never disappointed because eventually I WILL find them at Opportunity House. The staff is good-humored and friendly and the cashier near the door calls out a welcome every time I show up. I guess you can tell I love shopping there. I do.
For several years now, I've been a volunteer at the Vacaville Opportunity House Thrift Store, located on Peabody Road in Vacaville, CA. This thrift store is amazing in that it has so many clubs, individuals, organizations, churches, youth groups, etc. that give their time and donations to make this a success. The proceeds to to support a homeless shelter in Vacaville. The Festival of Trees was established to also support the Opportunity House. This is one of the best functions at Christmas time. The number of families and individuals that the homeless shelter has helped over the years is very impressive. People have found support in a variety of ways, not just a place to stay. They have received medical aid, housing, transitional housing, help writng resumes, help finding jobs, etc. I have no regrets about choosing the Opportunity House to volunteer, as it's an amazing organization.
I've been volunteering at the Vacaville Opportunity House Thrift Store for several years now, and I've seen it grow from the small store on Main Street in downtown Vacaville to it's much larger location on Peabody Road. There is always a huge variety of merchandise; you never know what will be donated. The prices are reasonable, and they often have sales for different occasions, a Senior day on Tuesdays, and a 40% off sale on a Sunday at the end of the month. There are some paid employees, but there are also a lot of volunteers at both the thrift store and the shelter, as well as a board of hard working people. The proceeds go to support the new homeless shelter that is located on Bennett Hill Court in Vacaville. It's a wonderful house that was built with donations and a lot of materials and physical help by the community. I know it has made a huge difference in many people's lives, and I'm proud to be a small part of their success. They have done wonders for our community by helping the homeless find shelter, housing, jobs, and confidence. The Festival of Trees donates thousands of dollars each year to Opportunity House, and many youth groups volunteer their time. It's an amazing success story, and people are invited to visit the shelter and see for themselves how it all works.
I love the Opportunity House, this is the place to go for us on SS, I find some great deals on things I couldn't afford if I bought new, I am in the store at least twice a week, great and friendly personnel, and volunteers working there, Have been going here for the past 7 years, ,way back when they had the small store...keep up the good work,,we need you Shirley
Becoming homeless in most cases is not an individuals choice, and it is because of non profits like the Vacaville Opportunity house that people in our community have a place to turn to when needed. The Opportunity House is by far the best non profit in the fine city of Vacaville, serving those in their greatest time of need. I feel blessed each and every day that I am able to contribute to the growing changes in peoples lives, and always keep in perspective the role that this house is playing in helping implement these changes. The Opportunity House is so much more than a non profit business, as it serves the entire community in many ways on an individual level. The staff and board members are caring and compassionate people who believe in the common good of the people that they serve. I consider myself truly lucky to be a part of this organization and look forward to the growing changes that will define this company, employees, clients, and the community they serve. ~ Shaun C.
