I had always heard good things about Operation Kindness and even donated occasionally but never realized what a truly amazing place it is until I finally visited the shelter in person—and was so impressed I signed up that same day to become a volunteer. The facility itself is beautiful -- bright, spacious, clean—and every process is designed with the animals' safety and comfort (both physical and emotional) top of mind. Most importantly, each dog and cat is treated as an individual, with love, kindness, patience and respect. Two years after my first visit, I've seen scores of pets find their forever homes, come to know many of the staff and volunteers personally, broadened my own knowledge of animal behavior and care, and even fostered multiple kittens—only "failing" (ie adopting) twice! To think of a shelter as a happy place might seem strange, but seeing the good work being done at Operation Kindness each and every day is truly spirit-lifting.

I visited Operation Kindness with high hopes, but my experience left me devastated and disillusioned. What was meant to be a place of compassion turned into a nightmare for me and my beloved pet.

My cat, Titan, was wrongfully surrendered to Operation Kindness by someone who falsely claimed ownership. Despite my frantic attempts to rectify the situation and provide proof of ownership, the organization adopted Titan out within just two days, showing a shocking lack of due diligence.

When I reached out to Operation Kindness, I was met with indifference and bureaucracy. They refused to acknowledge their mistake or take any meaningful action to reunite me with Titan. Their "kindness" seemed to extend only to potential adopters, not to rightful owners desperately trying to recover their pets.

This experience has caused me immense emotional distress. Titan wasn't just a pet; he was family. Operation Kindness's actions have torn apart that family, leaving a void that cannot be filled.

I urge potential adopters and those considering surrendering pets to think twice before engaging with Operation Kindness. Their hasty processes and lack of thorough verification can lead to heartbreaking consequences. A true animal welfare organization should prioritize reuniting lost pets with their owners, not rushing through adoptions without proper checks.

My story serves as a cautionary tale. While Operation Kindness may have good intentions, their practices can lead to devastating outcomes for both pets and their rightful owners.

I have been wanting to volunteer helping dogs in need for many years but, due to my busy schedule was not able to do so until September 2023. I asked around about the best place to volunteer and a friend suggested Operation Kindness and I am so glad I found them! Not only are the staff and volunteers wonderful but, also the experiences have been so rewarding for me! There are so many opportunities to choose from and I look forward to each and every one!

Operation Kindness has an incredible foster program. From beginning to end they are supportive, make the process clear, flexible and go above and beyond to make the foster home set up for success with the animals at the forefront. I have not seen another foster program with this much support and just pure love for the animals. Thanks for all you do to help save animals lives! Here are a few photos of some of our fosters we have loved having at our home.

I have been fostering kitties through Operation Kindness for almost a year. I had fostered dogs many years and was looking for a place to start again after moving to Texas. I went to an open house and signed up, and have since had such a rewarding time helping these deserving animals . OPK is definitely a well oiled machine and they make the process very easy and are eager to help make the experience a positive one. They clearly care for these animals and work very closely with us to help find them the best forever home.

Operation Kindness gave me my best friend when I least expected it. I had recently lost my soul dog and wasn't sure if I was ready for another one just yet. But when I locked eyes with Bruce, my heart instantly knew that he was mine. They saved him from an alleged cruelty case where he came to them full of heartworms, intestinal parasites, and severely emaciated. He was just skin and bones, the pictures of him the day he arrived were heartbreaking. But through the love and care of all the staff at Operation Kindness he was able to receive all the treatment he needed to be cleared of all parasites and gained a healthy amount of weight. His fur grew back and he started looking so bright and healthy again! Because of their dedicated care to the animals, my best friend got a second chance at life. I can't imagine what my life would be like without him. I am so grateful to the entire staff at Operation Kindness for all the love they show to every single animal.

Beware of this organization. They lie about dog vaccines and when they are questioned about it they hang up on you. A friend adopted a puppy from there today and brought her over. I asked to see her records and noticed several inconsistencies. The paperwork was highlighted to show that a little 8 week old puppy had received 3 vaccines already. First vaccine 2/3/03 second given on 2/10/2023 and third on 2/17/2023. This is not possible since they only recieved the puppy on 2/10 and that suppoesed vaccine schedule offers that poor puppy zero protection. If anything, they have overvaccinated the puppy and she runs the risk of becoming very sick. When I called, the staff said that it doesn't matter what the paperwork says because the puppy will still need more vaccines. I asked her why they would put vaccines on her paperwork that were clearly not given and why they would administer vaccines when they were not due to make it appear that the dog had recieved 3 rounds of vaccines. The staff member became irate and then hung up on me. This organization is shady and you should absolutely NOT TRUST any paperwork you are given.

I am VERY disappointed on the service for this company. We were NOT told the truth in returns and the COMPLETE information about our cat’s history was not provided to you on the day of adoption. We had to return the cat as it was in NO WAY compatible with our existing cat.

1. Front people were NOT trained correctly on returns. (Which I suffered from their untruth words.)
2. The EXCHANGE procedure was NEVER explained to me.
3. The COMPLETE history of the cat was NOT revealed to me on the day of adoption.
4. I would NEVER step foot in this location again.
5. Be careful when you adopt from this place!!!!

As a "forever foster" Mom, and long-time donor and volunteer, I've had the pleasure of spending time at "OPK" in the general shelter operations and - now for several years - as a Medical Ambassador in the medical facility. I've witnessed first-hand the love, care and compassion - and sometimes heartbreak - of the vets, vet techs, and kennel staff. I've seen the medical group go "above and beyond" in bringing cats and dogs back to health, or as close to healthy as they can be. There is no doubt that any animal loss is a loss felt by the medical team. I would not spend so much time here, and donate so much money here, if I did not know it to be a first-rate organization. I'm proud to be associated with this organization.

I've been fostering with Operation Kindness for 4 years now. They are great to work with. It is clear they are concerned about the health of the animals in their care. They are super responsive and provide excellent support. I fall in love with every kitten that comes into my home, thankfully my love of fostering kittens wins out over thinking I can keep each and every one of them!
They are definitely a top-notch organization!

After retiring at the end of 2016, I decided to volunteer for Operation Kindness. It's one of the best decisions I've ever made. Operation Kindness offers many opportunities to support homeless dogs and cats. In the years I've volunteered I've been involved in youth tours, dog walking, helping a volunteer photographer with pictures of adoptable dogs for the shelter's website, fund raising events, and administrative support. Operation Kindness does a wonderful job supporting and acknowledging volunteers.

Just like picking your fur baby is about finding the right fit, so is choosing an organization for whom to volunteer your time. I've tried big, small, and everything in between, and Operation Kindness is the right fit for me.

They're obviously well established, which allows them to have the experience and resources to be a well-oiled machine, but they have managed to keep the feel of a smaller organization by making you feel important, communicating so well, and being easy to navigate. When I have had questions or concerns, the staff has been accommodating and patient. The medical team, which conveniently has its state-of-the-art facility on site, is top notch professionally and yet still finds a way to explain things in layman's terms and somehow makes the foster volunteer leave thinking he/she is the one who is the foster pet's hero.

My initial concern with OpK's adoption process was that the foster volunteer couldn't know who adopted the foster pet unless he/she found an adopter. However, this isn't a concern for me anymore because I trust the reasoning behind it and trust OpK to find the foster pet a great home. Also, this limited personal investment comes with the benefit that the foster volunteer is not personally responsible for promoting the foster pet, which is difficult for many people to do, and it ensures that we don't hang onto those for whom we can't find adopters and can open our homes to new ones right away. For me, it's OpK all the way!

Since we began fostering, I have also become a shelter volunteer and being able to see how the shelter works and be a part of that has been a wonderful experience.

I have always wanted to foster but it was a little intimidating. Operation Kindness is awesome and I recommend them to anyone who wants to foster or is currently fostering somewhere else. The training is through but not cumbersome, the communication with the foster office is always quick and easy. I especially like the apps they use to show what fosters are available and to track the milestones of the fosters you have in place. SO happy that I found them to foster with, the best!

Operation Kindness is such a wonderful facility. I have been fostering for them for a few years and can attest first hand how much they really care about the animals behind the scenes. They go above and beyond to help those in need, from tiny bottle fed babies to older animals with medical needs. I ended up adopting my foster puppy a few months ago and couldn’t be happier. He was born blind and had to have eye surgery very young. I am forever thankful they gave him a chance and took such great care of him. I can’t say enough great things about the wonderful staff and organization Operation Kindness is.

I have volunteered with Operation Kindness over the past 5+ years, and have adopted my 2 cats from their shelter. I love their mission to save so many cats and dogs, provide such wonderful medical care, and get them into loving homes. Their shelter is well-run, well-designed, and well -staffed with caring people. Volunteers are treasured and can choose from so many opportunities to help, in the shelter hands-on with animals, or helping with admin tasks, or with outreach projects in the community. Anytime someone tells me they are considering a new pet, I always ask them to start with Operation Kindness. This organization has saved the lives of many, many cats and dogs in North Texas over the past four decades. They have also provided help for the pets of many people in need through their pet food pantry. Operation Kindness staff at every level treat animals and people with respect and decency, and the care they provide to homeless pets is truly excellent. Every pet adopted from Operation Kindness has benefited from individualized veterinary care and where needed, behavioral support. I’ve been a shelter volunteer there for a couple of years and have fostered over 30 cats and kittens for them. I’m proud of that because they’re an exceptional and excellent organization all round. My photos show just a few of the beautiful and deserving animals I’ve cared for as a volunteer there.

Operation Kindness is an amazing no kill animal shelter that has been saving animals lives for over forty years. I love that Operation Kindness goes above and beyond to help the animals in need. They take in sick animals, injured animals, animals who found themselves at kill shelters who need out, and animals whoes owners can no longer care for them. Their wonderful medical staff provides top of the line care and treatment for the animals in the new state of the art medical building. They make sure every animal in medical is comfortable during their stay by giving them plush blankets, bedding, toys, and tons of love. The kennel staff provides all the animals with extra special love and attention. Giving the dogs lots of walks, playing ball in the spacious play yards with the dogs, taking the cats on the catio to enjoy fresh air, and dangling feather toys for the kitties to swat and play with. The adoption counselors are knowledgeable about all the animals available for adoption pairing up the clients with best animal fit possible. I also love how Operation Kindness has a Pet Food Pantry to help provide food for animals whoes owners need a little help. This helps allow owners to feed their furbabies when times are hard. Between their kind caring staff and sweet well cared for animals I would highly recommend adopting a new furbaby from Operation Kindness

I went to their facility and met some of the people and some of the animals they were helping. I immediately knew this was a terrific place with a great mission as a no kill shelter. I jumped right in helping out, mostly exercising and working with the dogs on people skills. I was having so much fun that my wife got jealous and became a volunteer too right away.
We have spent a lot of our time bringing the dogs to various events in hopes of finding them forever homes. I think my most satisfying day was once I drove the adoption van back to the shelter with no passengers, they had all found new families.
Operation Kindness is truly a great place with a terrific mission and a terrific staff.

I was fortunate enough to foster this beauty for a few months until she found her forever home! Georgia had a rough start to her life as she was very sick when she arrived at the shelter. They took great care of her but she developed behavior issues. We decided together that she should go to a foster home where she could thrive and be herself. With hours of behavior training and suggestions provided by Operation Kindness, little Georgia calmed down and learned how to be around other cats. She found a perfect match and got adopted in February!

What started out as a temporary foster that was supposed to last just two weeks...a year later, Brittany is the best thing to happen to our family. Because of her "tortietude", she was considered quite the diva of the shelter. I remember visiting her at the shelter for a few months and walking into the cat room and saying "where's my girl?" and she would wake up, jump down and greet me at her door with a smile. I decided after talking to some of the staff that I would agree to give her some time outside the shelter for a couple of weeks. I fell in love on the way home from the shelter and never looked back. She loves my other cats, greets me and my husband at the door, and follows us everywhere. The loving staff at Operation Kindness always claims all animals as their "favorites" but I know Brittany really was. They always take extra time out of their day with each and every animal. They are truly filled with joy when a pet gets to go home with their family. They always go the extra mile and make each relationship personal. Thank you for taking such good care of my baby!

With a lot of luck and eagerness for little Ambrose, I was the fortunate one. Tara, Operation Kindness, made the process of paperwork so fast and easy. I had been volunteering at Operation Kindness for two weeks when I first saw Coy. I was helping with “Shutter Pups,” a program where a photographer comes to take photos of the dogs for Operation Kindness’ website. It was a Tuesday morning, and almost all of the other dogs in the Large Dog area (now Callie’s Room) were barking and carrying on like they sometimes do—not Coy. Coy was sitting quietly in a pristine kennel with her ears up and her tail wagging slightly. As I removed her from her kennel to go get her picture taken, I was charmed by her sweet and gentle nature. She smiled big for her photo and I returned her to her kennel, but I continued to think about her all day…and the next day…

When I returned to Operation Kindness to help with photos again on Thursday of that same week, I was shocked to see Coy still there. “How could someone not have adopted her?” I thought to myself. Once all the dogs that needed to be photographed that day had been, I decided to spend some extra time with Coy and take her for a little walk (which she desperately needed; she was 50 pounds when I first saw her). As I was walking her, I spoke with a fellow volunteer about how I couldn’t believe that a dog so wonderful had not yet been adopted. She told me that Coy might have a harder time getting adopted because of her age (she was five years old) and the fact that she wasn’t a purebred. I didn’t know what to think, but I DID know what to do…

Upon leaving the shelter that day, I immediately called my husband and said, “I don’t ask for much and I don’t need much…but I think I need this dog.” We discussed everything (“Who will let her out during the day?” ‘What about the cats?”), and we both returned to the shelter that same night after he got off work. I was already in love with Coy, so I was thrilled when she took to my husband like he was her new best friend. The incredibly knowledgeable staff at Operation Kindness performed a “cat test” with Coy and determined that she would pose no threat to our four kitties (three of which came from Operation Kindness). We completed the adoption process, and she was snuggled up next to us in bed that night of Thursday, May 4th of 2017. She transitioned seamlessly into our lives, and she and our (now) five cats get along swimmingly. Coy has also lost over ten pounds and is a healthy 38 pound angel. I am eternally grateful to Operation Kindness not just for the wonderful work they do but also for uniting me and my “soul mutt.”

The first two photos are of Coy when I first met her. The third photo is her enjoying a car ride earlier this month (she loves a good car ride).

I've been volunteering with Operation Kindness for 15+ years and have adopted several babies who have enriched my life 10 fold. Sadly I've had to say goodbye to some due to age and natural causes. Olivia (cat) & Bianca bring indescribable joy. Operation Kindness made it possible.

I was so impressed with the beautiful facility and how well all the animals were taken care of by the wonderful staff. The dogs are happy, you could see it, regular walks, play time, comfy clean bedding, awesome toys and very well fed. I joined up and became a volunteer in March 2017 and adopted my beautiful little Maltese Lily in April 2018. I saw her the day she arrived and knew she was meant for me! Medical gave her a teeth cleaning, updated shots and made sure she was healthy and ready to go. Thank you Operation Kindness for all that you do to care for all the homeless animals, you guys rock!! I’m so honored to be a part of this awesome organization.

Operation Kindness is a true blessing to N Texas! I have both fostered and adopted with them. It’s amazing how compassionate these people are, and what they are willing to do for animals, especially neglected and abused ones. If I lived closer, I would be there every day! I first fostered Timber when he was found with a badly broken back leg, around 7 weeks old. After the wonderful vet staff realized how painful the break was and that it would be very difficult to heal his leg, they had to amputate. I took care of him afterwards. OK has the best vet staff in the world- always helpful and available. Timber healed and I fell in love with him. I adopted him ( now one of 4 that I adopted from OK). Thank you OK for helping him!!!

I became aware of Operation Kindness in December of 2016. I found out a neighbor had given up their dog to the city shelter and Operation Kindness took her in. I was very upset because this was an older dog and one I had cared for multiple times. I went in to Operation Kindness and asked if I could visit with her and seeing I was visibly upset they staff allowed me to say a goodbye to her. I say goodbye because the next day she was adopted! The staff so kindly told me a little about the match. I became a volunteer a week later. The staff is so amazing.

I adopted Bailey from Operation Kindness and it has been the best decision of my life. He was extremely socialized and well adjusted when I adopted him. He came from a puppy mill and Operation Kindness saved his life. Operation Kindness neutered him and gave him all his age appropriate shots. The staff and Volunteers were amazing and helpful. The facility was extremely clean. I would recommend this shelter to anyone looking to adopt a dog or cat. I am so impressed with Operation Kindness that I am not also a Donor and a Volunteer. Please support this wonderful organization. I am forever grateful to Operation Kindness!

4 years ago I saw a Chihuahua on Operation Kindness' Facebook page that I knew was meant to be mine. I went that same day to get him, and I had such a wonderful experience with the staff. They were all so friendly, super helpful, complimentary and informative. My three-legged Chihuahua, Trip, and I are a match made in Heaven. He had heart worms and they took such excellent care of him throughout his treatments, which they also provided free of charge. I can't express my appreciation to Operation Kindness for being so great with my little man! 4 months ago I decided it might be time to get Trip an (older) companion. I saw Annie on their Instagram that very same day and went to go get her. She's the sweetest girl and we're a happy little family. The lengths that Operation Kindness goes to for these animals and the genuine care they provide are so remarkable, and they're worth 100 stars in my book!

They about 60 Cats and kittens that are at 13999 or 14000 Goldmark. The building is right in the back of Spring valley movie studio grill or o. The side of Sonic on spring valley rd. Apparently a lot of people have been leaving a bag of cat food and water and I have been feeding them for 3mths. I rescue 10 kitten 7 has been adopted. Well I have talk to the owner about why are they throwing away their food and water. They said the city said to starve them and so thats what they are doing. I just had heart surgery but I dont know if I can continue to feed them. Please anyone who can help them. Im trying to have them put on more weight. But some have gotten skinny because I would leave the food and in a hour Im back its in the dumpster. Here's a good photo of them when they were fatter. So please save them and mire them to a colony were they will be safe. No animal should be treated that way its in human.

I have never been so disgusted with the way this staff treated me during my recent adoption of a kitty. I adopted a kitty even after being talked down to like I'd never had a kitty in my life. I've grown up around kitties my entire life. I then experienced medical problems with the kitty only 3 days after adoption. Brought him to a vet that op kindness suggested. Paid $250 to get the kitties tapeworm removed. Then was told by OK that I could've brought the kitty in for free treatment by them. I then had behavioral issues with the kitty. After patience and training my kitty did not calm down so I decided with a heavy heart to bring him back. Sobbing in the lobby while bringing him back I was then talked down to by another staff member being told "don't cry" and "we can just exchange him for another cat", talking about my kitty like he's a cologne that can be exchanged if I don't like it. I brought the kitty back after only a week of having him and was told by the supervisor that I could not get back my $135 adoption fee even though I only had him for a week AND paid for his tapeworm removal. I would NEVER suggest this shelter to anyone. What a horrible way to treat a customer and make me feel insignificant. OK should be ashamed of themselves.

Operation Kindness is the oldest and largest No Kill Shelter in Texas. They provide many services to help support the adoption of homeless pets of all kinds. They make a positive impact on animals lives and provide many services to support the community. Last week they had Santa Claus onsite for Christmas pictures with pets to raise funds to support their programs. This event was very well attended by the community and this is a great group of volunteers.

I became aware of Operation Kindness when a stranger dropped two puppies in the bed of my truck while I was inside shopping at my local grocery store. The pups were scared and had no home. I couldn't take them as I had a 6 month old puppy plus a senior dog. Operation Kindness helped connect us with a donor and they were indeed adopted! That was 2005. 8 years later I am now working with the group as a board member. It has been a phenomenal experience for me. Our board is a diverse group of folks who all have the animals at the very center of our efforts. We strive to be a smart, hard-working, active board and because of that I think the halo effect on the animals is a positive one. We have an outstanding group of staff and volunteers that make the group successful - Operation Kindness has helped save and adopt over 75,000 homeless animals since it's inception.

As a donor, longtime volunteer, adopter and former Board member, I feel very lucky to be part of Operation Kindness. It is a first rate organization with a professional, committed board, and excellent, caring, animal-loving Staff. This No-Kill shelter is Nirvana for the animals that are lucky enough to be temporary residents until they find their forever homes. The volunteers are committed and wonderful folks.

(My review is for the location in Carrollton, TX) I believe in Operation Kindness. I financially give to Operation Kindness. I've adopted two of the best kittens I've had from them. Operation Kindness does a great job in caring for and finding homes for companion animals. They have a beautiful shelter that is clean and well lighted, staffed mostly by volunteers. They now have medical staff available at te shelter who can provide medical care, spaying/neutering services, and checks out cats/kittens and dogs/puppies before the adoption is completed. I am glad to see there are no over-paid staff/executives listed here. There are a lot of fundraisers but they are necessary to bring in money to care for the animals entrusted to them. Believe me, the adoption fee doesn't begin to cover the cost of food/litter/medical care for the cats and dogs they care for. Some are older and will be there lifelong since most people want kittens and puppies rather than older animals. Some have medical problems that essentially make them unadoptable. After having two cats that had serious medical problems at a young age and the escalating cost of caring for them, I have a greater understanding of the costs of caring for a pet. Operation Kindness does a wonderful job and I highly believe in them and wouldn't hesitate to give my charitable dollars to them!
