OBOL is an a.azing hands-on non-profit. Elleen and Brad truly care about the welfare of animals and in addition, their work with vets, homeless and education of children is truly admirable. They think out of the box and are always looking for new ways to help and educate the public.
Their 24/7 dedication to this effort is highly commendable!
What incredibly selfless and unique work Operation Blankets of Love is doing! The amount of animals they touch is just beyond! All the shelters in and around Los Angeles are blessed with their generosity. Dogs, cats, critters and farm animals have warm blankets, beds, food, medical needs, and so much more while awaiting their forever homes. This comfort makes them more adoptable because these items reduce their stress. In addition, rescue groups, homeless drives and so much more.
Every natural disaster- OBOL is there! Distance is irrelevant. If they can't drive, items are shipped. I've been volunteering for the last decade with them and we have become dear friends. How could you not? Brad and Eileen have the biggest hearts.

OBOL is absolutely a one of a kind organization that helps every tangent of the animal rescue world! The resources they provide to hundreds of rescue groups, countless shelters, homeless animals to shipping essential needs overseas is beyond generous and truly, life saving. I volunteer at our local county shelter and see first hand how the basics of beds, blankets and towels provide comfort and safety for the dogs and cats, making them more content, trusting and adoptable. OBOL arrives with a smile and truckload of donations each week providing for our shelter and distributing overflow for others in need. Anytime I've gone on a road trip, I find the local shelter, ask for their "Wish List" and Operation Blankets of Love loads up my SUV with all the items they so desperately need. Their love filled reach blesses countless animal and human lives. I'm honored to be a volunteer and dear friend of Brad and Eileen. They have the biggest hearts and do this tough work day in and day out with such joy, positive and humor to boot!
From a compassionate, caring idea in 1995, Eileen & Brad have created a unique and special program thagt grows every day. Expanded from comfort blankets to essentials including food, shelter, medicine and other essentials, OBOL cares for the animals so many others overlook. They are living examples of inclusion, when need is the only criteria for consideration, offering Brad's big whilte van full of hope to all sorts of animals, and for rescues and shelters locally and internationally. A fantastic organization.

Really unique and necessary operation- they support those who have the least, always. Offering the basics, such as food and supplies, OBOL also considers the comfort and (limited) happiness these animals have, so things like blankets and toys make all the difference.
Pretty amazing, and worth all the support we can give them for the support and kindness they provide to both those working to save so many animals as well as the creatures themselves.
I am thrilled to be a supporter/donor of OBOL. My husband and I truly feel Eileen and Brad are earthly Angels helping so many Fur Babies . These dear animals receive food, bedding and health care thru so many fostering programs that survive due to the help OBOL provides .They help provide care for pets of the homeless and veterans in need.
I encourage all our friends to support OBOL. I can't say enough about how honored I am to be associated with them
Operation Blankets of Love may be a local animal rescue organization but they are larger than life and their charitable work extends far beyond our fair city. They are the first on scene in emergencies, they service a multitude of animal shelters and rescues, supplying them with food, medicine, toys, necessary equipment, - you name it, they provide it. Eileen and Brad Smulson really are doing God's work for God's unfortunate animals. Bless them.
Operation Blankets of Love has been my primary animal rescue/welfare organization for my charitable giving for years. Eileen and Brad work tirelessly assisting our homeless pets, our overcrowded shelters, being the first on scene at area disasters (like our California wildfires or major flooding) rescuing the frightened animals, running down to help the neglected animals living on the streets of Mexico. They are unbelievable and indefatigable. I am always amazed at their boundless energy and commitment. We Angelenos are blessed to have them in our midst! Don't even want to think about a world without them.
Eileen and Brad Smulson, Operation Blankets of Love, were a help beyond belief. My brother passed away in California. I reside in Pennsylvania. He had four male cats. Operation Blankets of Love found them a home, kept all four together and were kind and wonderful enough to send me photos of them in their new home. Their outreach made my journey of taking care of my brother's estate a much easier one with a better outcome than imaginable. I very much appreciated how they reached out to me to help and then to let me know how things got finalized for the beloved animals. I will forever be thankful to this organization and feel they go above and beyond what the expectations are. I will gladly give a personal review to anyone that would like. I cannot say enough good about them. connieivill@zoominternet.net
I have worked with this group through a friend of mine for years. I have collected blankets and other necessities for their cause. These folks work tirelessly to help this animals in need. I am so grateful for folks like Eileen and Brad Smulson! God Bless them and their cause.
Operation Blankets of Love is a cornerstone for so many rescues in California. They are some of the kindest people we have ever met, and their generosity is limitless. The amount of help that they provide, and the good that they do, is truly staggering, and they always do it with a smile. Can't say enough good things about OBOL, and we couldn't be more grateful. Kaja Gula-Thomas, S.T.A.R.T. Rescue
Operation Blankets of Love is an amazing Non Profit , not only does this amazing non profit donate all things to rescue groups, shelters and provides a wonderful pamphlets for children in order that they learn how to take care of all animals especially their own pets. I have been a supporter of OBOL for many years and I hope you all will see what a terrific non profit they are. They are THE BEST oh
I know first hand the hundreds of animal support groups that OBOL serves. Multiple times every day OBOL provides food, supplies, and support to needy animals and the people that support these animals. From animal shelters to veterans and the homeless who have pets, from Police canine departments, and everyone who cares for our furry friends, OBOL is there for their needs.
I am proud to be involved with this organization! Keep up the good work! We love you!

I have been associated with OBOL for many years, and it is a privilege to be chosen as a Board Member to serve along side this wonderful organization. They provide millions worth of donated pet supplies to needy animals through hundreds of organizations, helping the veterans, homeless, shelters, and assisting in emergency situations (floods, fires, etc.). I can't think of more hard working people than Brad and Eileen, who sacrificially give of themselves toward helping those animals less fortunate and in need.
Operation Blankets of Love wraps its arms around dogs and cats all over the world, giving them the chance to be adopted, loved and cared for. I was fortunate to meet with and get to know the owners and I immediately wanted to be a part of this wonderful organization. I am a director of a small Charter school where I support and lead over 65 fourth and fifth grade leadership students. I shared with them the vision and history of OBOL and they couldn’t wait to help! Every year we bring our school and community together to help pets in need. We make and collect blankets, food, beds and any other supplies needed to help support pets in shelters just waiting to find their forever families. This has taught my leadership students about what it means to support and give to animals in need. Every year the owner comes to our school, sharing her vision and message with our students and families, the children really enjoy her visits and coloring books, teaching them about how to care for animals. OBOL is our top non Profit to support for dogs and cats. Their dedication, love
and enormous effort to spread the need of sheltered and homeless pets is amazing and we are honored to support them!
I love this organization not only for how much they help animals but also for their origin story. A woman thinks, "If shelter dogs had a comfy blanket to sleep on instead of the cold, concrete floors at a shelter, they'd feel better, which might make them more adoptable." So, this remarkable woman and her husband started collecting blankets to donate them to shelters. They've grown from blankets to collecting almost everything a shelter/rescue needs to help animals: food, leashes, harnesses, medicine, toys, etc. And yes, still blankets! I support them with a monthly financial donation and my company matches it.
OBOL has been doing great work helping so many over many years. I believe the work they do assists shelters, rescues, individuals with pet needs and have expanded their operation over the years to include so many more who call on them for help.
They have recognized by many who realize the good they are doing for people and animals, all over.
Please help by donating any way you are able.
I love OBOL, as they are literally in the trenches every day, providing great support, supplies and LOVE to the most vulnerable animals in our area. Wonderful people, wonderful cause!

Our family has been supporting Operation Blankets of Love for over sixteen years. One day, my daughter found an older dog sitting in our front yard. He looked like he was homeless, lost, and fierce. She was leaving for a law school class but decided that helping this dog was more important. She took chicken pieces akin to Hansel and Gretel (Grimm et al., 1979) trail of breadcrumbs, and she led this poor dog into the garage, and gave him food and water. Later, when my husband and I came home, we approached our Fred with a blanket for him to rest upon. The look in his eyes was one of disbelief, appreciation, and gratitude. His magical eyes said it all. He was home and he knew it. He curled up on his blanket and fell asleep. We have supported Operation Blankets of Love because they too know the importance of compassion and how one act of kindness toward a homeless animal can set off a magical chain of events – giving them hope, humility and a new chance at life. It is the small acts of kindness or compassion that can change a life. We would like to thank Operation Blankets of Love for their hard work and dedication in helping homeless animals. OBOL has been my charity of choice for years. They are such wonderful caring individuals and give so much time and energy selflessly to help these animals in need. They are my pick for greatest non profit.
Well, I’ve been donating to OBOL now for more than a decade. I only donate to a very few animal charities, but OBOL is, and has been, at the very top of my list. You won’t find a better charity to send your dollars to. I have personally witnessed firsthand the work that they do to help other animal rescue groups, and it is mind blowing to see what they have accomplished over the years I’ve donated to them. I will continue to do so in the years ahead, and would advise anyone looking for any kind of charity to donate to, then don’t look any further than OBOL…Eileen and Brad Smulson are the heart and soul of this organization and deserve much more praise and funding than they now get. In fact, OBOL should receive the kind of funding that the ASPCA gets!

OBOL is the group that actually rescues the other rescue and foster groups whenever those groups need assistance with food, blankets, beds, treats and other assorted pet items. They are a one of a kind organization that deserves the highest praise for what they do. I have visited with Eileen and Brad over the past two years, and seeing them in action is the real deal. I’ve been donating to OBOL for nearly a decade and will continue to do so. Out of the hundreds of nonprofit pet rescue groups out there, OBOL is absolutely the top of my list! The attached photos are just a small sample of items I donated last year.
This is a great organization that helps so many animals. I love the work they do with children to educate them about animals. They have a wonderful booklet they created for the children as well. They also help veterans. So many different animals and people are helped by OBOL.
This is a great Organization, helping animals all over, rescues and shelters all over the city. Please help them achieve their goal of rescuing and helping animals in desperate need of food, meds and blankets.Thank you OBOL for all you're doing.
The greatest thing about OBOL is that it helps any person or group that needs help. They don't care about politics or what group you consider yourself part of, as long as you are helping animals. They help rescuers, food banks, veterans' agencies and homeless outreach programs. They even help elderly people take care of the animals they love and depend on so much but can barely afford to feed on a fixed income. What an amazing organization.

For over 20 years, I have helped a variety of animal rescues and animal-related organizations, and so many of them are full of complete nutcases. It is truly rare to come across an organization like Operation Blankets of Love, where their focus is on helping and the task at hand is what's most important. It's not just the blankets they give out with love, it's the overall support they extend to small, independent rescuers who most likely don't have any other support and can barely afford pet food, let alone all the extras that OBOL provide. Eileen and Brad are at it seven days a week, unable to even take a vacation because they know the need never stops. I am honored to be able to help such a worthy group, and I finally feel like I'm truly appreciated for what I do. I wish I had been more involved for the past ten years, but I'm glad I'm able to help now.
We are a 501c3 charitable animal transport organization and Operation Blankets of Love has been invaluable in providing us with supplies, ie. blankets, leashes, collars, food, treats. They provide critical lifesaving support to so many individuals and organizations like ours. I don't know what we would do without them. They are true team players!
I first heard of this organization at least 10 or 15 years ago when attending a dog show in Simi Valley. I thought it was a great idea and immediately went home, gathered up lots of towels, blankets, etc. and returned with my donation. Since then, I have visited shelters on several occasions and generally found them to be rather dismal, regardless of how clean and newly built they are. I think the main reason is because the animals are often left in bare kennels without any blankets, beds or toys. OBOL provides these "comfort" items to many shelters through the state, and even to other countries. They also provide food, leashes and other essentials to these facilities, which can either use them or gift them to new pet adopters. I have personally seen a difference in the demeanor of animals whose kennels contain something as basic as a bed. I am now in a position where I can provide a small measure of financial assistance to OBOL. I have personally met with Eileen Smulsen and know how much she and her husband truly care for her mission.
Operation Blanket of Love has helped fur~babies around the world for as long as I can remember! They have helped animals & many families through house fires, wildfires & disasters. Any time I have called or referred anyone to Brad or Eileen they have never turned anyone away without helping them, whether it be a newly adopted pet getting set~up with their forever family or a foster family. Their passion to make the furry friends comfortable while they are in shelters until they are adopted are so comforting to all. They are 2 of the most caring people I know, even thru their own personal struggles, they have been there for our communities in need! Love attending the Bingo Nights at Hamburger Mary's too! Always such great Fun! It's been amazing to watch how much they have grown & all the partners they have acquired over the years. Also the education they give freely to kids of all ages from 1 to 101 are always fun & interactive along with information everyone takes home on how to care for their pets, the blanket drives & drop~ locations are convenient too! They always answer their phone calls with a "Smile" & how can we help attitude!
Several months ago we discovered them at our local pet store in Simi Valley when they were having their 10 year anniversary celebration. We spoke with Eileen and were impressed with their mission. I didn’t know at the time how valuable what they do is; I didn’t know shelters etc. didn’t have any budget for animal comfort. Since then, we’ve been donating around 20 blankets a month at our pet store for them. I also decided to donate money monthly as well. BTW, if you live close to an Ikea, they have blankets for as little as $1.99 each. I intend to go there regularly to buy lots of blankets, and encourage everyone else to also; such an inexpensive way to help so many needy animals.
I really love that this is a grassroots charity and not one that spends its donations on boards of directors and sending money in the mail to get money back. I’ve donated and feel that my donation is truly spent on what I’ve donated to… helping animals. When I’ve reached out with questions, Eileen has personally responded quickly. No other charity that I’ve donated to has the person/people running the charity also be the person who cares enough to respond to everyone personally.
Operation Blankets of Love (OBOL) has been helping California Miniature Schnauzer Rescue with donations of food and other supplies for about a decade or so (and we have donated both cash and excess supplies to OBOL. OBOL's donation to us have helped us immensely, and they have allowed us to furnish our excess supplies to other rescues/shelters rather than having those supplies go to waste.
We hope Brad and Eileen continue their good work for many years to come.

Operation of Blankets of Love has been of immense help to California Miniature Schnauzer Rescue. They have given us food for our rescue dogs, wire crates in which to keep dogs recovering from surgery for broken legs, "donuts" for dogs to wear after surgery so that they won't chew on their sutures, and occasional other things.
In turn, we have given Operation Blankets of Love money for the gas they need to deliver supplies to disaster areas and excess supplies we did not need. On a couple of occasions, it was a joy to see other rescues gratefully take supplies we brought, rather than have them go to waste.
OBOL is a Great Nonprofit organization for Homeless Animals. Truly one of a kind, run by a dedicated couple, wife and Husband, Eileen and Brad Smulson. They have some volunteers but both of them also work so hard, almost 24/7, 365 days, driving around town, state and even travel out of the country helping Animals and all the shelters , picking up and delivering all sorts of items, food, cages, blankets, toys, etc, etc... they even help Veterans with dogs . Eileen goes around schools and holds educational sessions for the kids.
Every penny donated to OBOL is worth a lot.
I've been involved with OBOL for over 10 years now and feel proud to have been chosen to be a member of their Board and be associated with them. Brad and Eileen work so hard day in and day out to make sure hundreds of rescue groups (with so many more needing help each year), in multiple states and countries, get the supplies they need to be able to continue to rescue the many animals that would have no hope otherwise. OBOL provides all types of supplies, including food, free of charge, to rescue groups which helps allow them to be able to use more of their precious funds towards paying for the medical costs of the animals they’re saving.
OBOL also assists and provides relief during disasters and emergencies (fire, flood and most recently the devastating snow storms in California). They are also very passionate about a providing much needed humane education for children. Your dollars do great work when you donate to OBOL.

I’ve been involved with OBOL for almost 10 years now and they just keep getting better and better. I’m proud to be associated with them and donate to them knowing how genuine, passionate and hard working they are with helping hundreds of rescue groups every year. Operation Blankets of Love (OBOL), which is run by Eileen and Brad Smulson, provides necessary items for animal shelters. I am a volunteer at the City of Los Angeles West Valley Animal Shelter and I have seen items that have been provided by OBOL, such as beds, blankets, and toys for the animals. In fact, I have been at the shelter when deliveries from OBOL arrived. OBOL has provided necessary blankets and bedding when washing machines or dryers at the shelters have broken down. OBOL has been providing food and supplies for the Pet Food Panties run by the City of Los Angeles shelters. OBOL also helps private rescues and other charitable groups by providing necessary pet items. I highly recommend OBOL.
This review is submitted in my individual capacity, not on behalf of the Animal Services Department.
I don't even know where to start...Brad and Eileen are the saving grace of cat/dog rescue in Los Angeles. They are ALWAYS there for me, my rescue pals and whoever needs their help. After all these years I can even call them FRIENDS, which is the BEST thing EVER!
The Underdog Community Project is doing a once a month pop up type clinic for the homeless people's pets at the Skid Row area of Los Angeles, where we administer vaccinations (including Rabies), deworming treatments, flea treatments, some cosmetic services for dogs and cats, and we give away important supplies for these pets all free of charge.
We are very thankful for OBOL's ongoing support that helps us greatly to be able to provide some of the much needed supplies for these homeless animals.
I am a lifelong advocate and support to ALL things animal related in terms of financial, merchandise, food, blankets etc. Not only domestic but Wildlife and International as well.
OBOL is close to home for me and because I don't have the space at home to do more I gladly make as many donations in a year as I possibly can. I am Grateful and appreciative for ALL the work they've done these past 16 years.
I am loyal to their cause and will ALWAYS be there for them and all they do.
I love this organization. I work in the film industry and, when production buys towels for anything water related, I always donate them to OBOL when we wrap. I love knowing that the wonderful animals will benefit. Keep doing great things!
It was actually my wife Sandy who would go the pet stores in the area to pick us all the blankets etc and drop them off or Brad would pick them up at our home. It’s simply a great cause so help please if you can
OBOL is a constant source of inspiration. Their dedication to helping animals in the wake of natural disasters domestically and across the globe to the devastation in Ukraine is a shining example of the best of what people are capable of. I've been honored to donate goods and money to their work.
The people of OBOL set it apart. They are so personable, responsive and genuine towards not only the animals but also to people like me who are looking for ways to be of some help.
I would also commend their email communication and design work, which immediately draw the eye and make clear what OBOL is focusing on and what is needed. They make it easy and compelling to help.
Brad and Eileen have helped our rescue with supplies that were needed for medically challenged dogs from broken legs, wheelchair and Cerebellum Hypoplasia puppies. They are our heros! Our rescue is Saving K9 Lives plus
I run a non medical rescue which serves animals that are seriously, sick, injured abused and abandoned. We need endless supplies caring for 400 dogs at a time. OBOL rises above and beyond every time. They never let us down . They are always ready with a hug and a smile . No matter how much we need or what time we need it they are happy to help. In 16 yrs of Rescue I’ve never seen the need so great or the dogs so desperate. They are a truly amazing organization. Brad and Eileen 2 of the most incredible people I’ve ever had the pleasure of meeting in my rescue career .
Operation blankets is one of the best organizations that we have dealt with they are carrying loving and look out for the animals they are generous and they really love the animals and take care of the people in the animals I recommend them for anybody and everybody God bless America for them
I manage a homeless outreach team in the San Gabriel Valley. Our organization is Union Station Homeless Services. We serve the homeless and many of them have pets in need of food and other items. Operation Blankets of Love is an incredible organization who provided our team with pet food and other pet supplies. Brad from the organization let us know, when we run out, just contact him and he will do his best to help us out in the future. They are an amazing organization and we will make good use of their services. The pets of the homeless thank you! Union Station Homeless Services thank you, Brad and Eileen! The best experience ever, dealing with this organization!
I can remember when Eileen and Brad started Operation Blankets of Love. Their goal was to make shelter animals more comfortable which would make them more adoptable and give them those forever, loving homes. I am always blown away, all these years later, to see the scope of their work. It's not just CA; it's not just dogs and cats, and it's certainly not just blankets and towels. Eileen and Brad are the most dedicated people I know to provide care and nourishment and love to needy animals and the people who support them.

My story goes back to the beginning of OBOL when there was Eileen, Brad, their extraordinary rescue, Ginger, and a sadness for all the animals languishing in shelters. Eileen had the idea if these creatures had a soft blanket or towel to sleep on, they would be happier, present better, and be more likely to be adopted. They put this idea into their nonprofit and it grew exponentially. Now it can be street dogs in Mexico, the homeless with pets, abandoned horses, wolf pups; what ever organization needs help. OBOL provides not only blankets but food, beds, and all sorts of supplies. I have OBOL send a tribute to friends and family who have lost a beloved pet. I know the wishes are sincere and the donation I make is helping to make a difference in an animal’s life.
Operation blankets of love has been instrumental to many small rescues in Tijuana and Mexicali . Without their help, we would not have been able to help feed sooo many homeless dogs, and help rescue as many as we have. Their continued support has been a life line to so many.
Thank you for all you do to help us out.
Operations Blankets of Love was front and center when a devastating fire tore through Los Angeles and Ventura County providing supplies and support to shelters, rescues and families evacuated from their homes. Daily, they provide blankets, support and love to the many animals in shelters across Los Angeles County and beyond. I so appreciate the work they do and I absolutely know that the dollars sent will be well used.
When I donate to OBOL, I know that my money is actually providing comfort items, food and necessary supplies to cat and dog rescue organizations. My money helps to improve the health and well-being of the animals, increasing their chances for adoption.
OBOL goes above and beyond the typical outreach efforts to help rescue and re-home adoptable pets. They serve not only Southern California, where they are based, but they have volunteers who rescue dogs from Mexico, to be re-homed in the US, plus they have assisted in efforts to rescue animals out of Ukraine while they are under attack from Russia. OBOL uses their resources wisely, accepting wide variety of supplies to help their animals.
I’m from Saving DAI Rescue in Bakersfield. I rescue the Discarded, Abandoned, and Injured (DAI) dogs dumped in the rural farming areas . They are left to fend for themselves on dead animals and trash that have been dumped by disgusting people. We have set up feeding and watering stations for them until we can trap them. THIS WOULD NOT BE POSSIBLE WITHOUT THE SUPPORT FROM OBOL. THEY SUPPLY US WITH FOOD, BEDDING , AND MEDICAL SUPPLIES TO HELP THE DOGS. HATS OFF TO OBOL FOR ALL YOU DO FOR THE ANIMALS!!!
How did I miss that animals on shelters , tens of thousands of them, have no comfort? No blankets, no beds, no toys. So many others missed it, too, but not OBOL. They have brought some comfort and relief to thousands of animals and I’m so grateful to personally know these wonderful and compassionate people.
1) They have the hardest working captain behind the wheel who is on the road each & every day to destinations far & near! From private rescuers who are grateful for the free food & comfort items that comes to them from the OBOL Van, to even the county shelters surrounding Los Angeles.
2) OBOL is one of the few charities I support because I can see where my money is going!! ~that's huge. OBOL is available to me through Facebook, as a FB follower, I see the posts daily (including Sat & Sun because the work never stops is their motto!
3) When our parrot died, OBOL accepted 3 large bird cages from us which were quite heavy & barely fit in the van. But the assurance that OBOL will find a good home for them to ease the grief, came through the pictures on FB when all 3 arrived at a bird sanctuary for vets recovering from PTSD ..

I was introduced to OBOL when they were invited to be guest speakers (Eileen AND Ginger) at my local women's club (MWFC) and we came away with a story about a dog who inspired her Mom & Pop to begin this operation. They wanted to do 'something' and SOMETHING they did. Loaded up van ++ with bags & bags of dog food, cat food & other essentials for making an animal more comfortable while living in the shelter, waiting for a real home. Personally, Brad was at the ready when I asked him if he would take 3 large bird cages from us and send them to a place where most needed. Veterans! Helps ease the pain of PTSD. All the county shelters get a visit from OBOL regularly & even work well outside Los Angeles County. A lot of driving! I support them monthly, mostly for Gas!! Lovely People, Eileen & Brad. Media savvy as well ~~
I was a volunteer for OBOL so I know first hand the amazing work they do. They have helped so many animals through shelters and rescues. They never stop. Very impressive organization.
Always ready and willing to help at a moment’s notice! Most generous people out there

I always ask tenants in my apt. complex to donate blankets & towels they don't want anymore.
I recently learned you also get food, beds, leashes .food ,dishes so i ask for that. I bring them to the Tail waggers near me and drop them off.
This is my boy Mighty who I euthanized this past December. I miss him so and wanted to share. Picture taken 2 days before, he doesn't look sick but he was very sick.

I've known Eileen and Brad since the inception of OBOL. They have incredible drive, energy and compassion for the plight of homeless animals. They truly care from their hearts and want to help.the rescuers, homeless and other animal-related organizations by providing necessary blankets, food, carriers, etc. Eileen is a dedicated educator and by creating her children's coloring book on pet care, she is spreading her knowledge on how to be a responsible pet owner in this country as well as outside the US.
These people are SERIOUS animal lovers. They work their butts off to provide for us. My rescue has been able to help animals 5 times more than I used to thanks to the food donations provided by Operation Blankets of Love . They also provide many other things when needed. Thanks to them, my rescues are kept warm during our VERY freezing winters. Every dog/cat has their own bed and blankets. We could NOT do what we do without them.
Wonderful people and wonderful non-profit organization who help with disaster relief, and day to day challenges us rescuers face. I know when I make donations, it always goes to good use.
Blankets Of Love is a wonderful organization as far as I’m concerned. The great work that they do for animals is absolutely amazing. We have been a drop off location for Blankets Of Love for several years and when people drop stuff off They’re actually excited to do so.. I see that people love to give just as much as Blankets Of Love ❤️loves to receive ..
These guys always come through for our rescue. Recently we took on several cats and kittens and we normally are used to dogs so we didn’t have any supplies- Blankets of Love supplied us with everything needed to rescue these endangered pets and get them to foster care with starter kits! They also help us with many other needs. Brad does all of this from his heart!
They are so generous for my dog rescue! Whenever I need supplies brad and BOL Is always there for us. He cares about our animals and we truly appreciate his consistent support. We cannot do what we do without BOL.
OBOL is always there to help out our small dog rescue with any supplies we need. If it wasn't for the supplies we get from them, we wouldn't be able to continue our mission.
I have been a supporter of OBOL for over 10 years. I’ve never met the couple who founded it but I know what they do makes life a little better for shelter dogs, pets and their people. Over the years their network has grown and their reach has broadened. I will continue to support them and all their good works.
OBOL founders Eileen and Brad Smulson are busy 7 days a week, 365 days every year bringing food, bedding and supplies to rescues up and down the state. If there's a fire, a natural disaster, or a gathering of veterans, they are on the scene in a day handing out pet supplies to everyone who needs them. They are in the trenches helping people who rescue animals, generously donating their time, energy, and support. OBOL is the definition of a genuine service organization. They really are remarkable!

I've supported Operation Blankets of Love for at least 7-8 years. Over the years I've seen them grow from serving local shelters and rescue groups to giving aid to national and international emergency efforts. OBOL is a remarkable, small non-profit that uses boundless energy & hard work to steadfastly provide tons and tons of material support to hundreds of rescue groups and shelters working in the trenches to fill the tremendous need of caring for the world's homeless animal population. OBOL is grassroots with an incredibly gigantic heart and mighty energy! This group is the absolute definition of what selfless service is all about!
They have always been there through thick or thin. And believe me it's more thick than thin.
You can donate a one dollar or five hundred and they are just as appreciative. I can not tell you how great the work these people do day in day out.
Wonderful organization who is always ready to help any animal in needs. Extremely caring and dedicated. Without them, a lot of shelter pets will be without blankets and toys.
They have been there whenever our 4 legged friends have needed help for years. They are the greatest non profit out there!
I first found out about OBOL through a friend about 10 yrs ago and have been doing collections of pet supplies, blankets and towels at my job since then. They are a great organization and every Christmas for our gift exchange I ask for a donation to be made to OBOL.
I would shout the following statement from the roof tops.. Brad and his wife Eileen are the most selfless people. They travel around to animal groups in need to make sure people have supplies to feed and house animals. Even in a Pandemic!!, They are out there. I call this caring, and going above and beyond!
Personally, I work with a reptile education group and rescue, they have donated items to us such as tanks, this was very valuable to ensure the reptiles safety while they are healing or awaiting a new home.
Also, I work with rescue dogs and have received blankets from OBOL which were so crucial to the care of the dogs in the winter. This is also useful anytime of year to make sure rescues have something comfortable to sit on to avoid sores from the hard concrete.
Brad and Eileen are all heart and they love all animals! they are very personable with people too. They are my favorite Animal people
Operation Blankets of Love is a very unique organization with fantastic and passionate leadership. They do amazing things from what I see and deserve all the praise in the world for their wonderful work!
I met Brad And Eileen before they co-founded this amazing non-profit organization OBOL.
Watched them put all of their passion and time to create, and fund OBOL as they dedicated 150% to inspire others to donate as they rescued and were present to first call emergency situation for many suffering animals everywhere in they San Fernando Valley.
Their cause was well received and fast growing as people took notice of their efforts.
Now years later it’s one of the best well organized non profits, where many love to participate volunteering their time and donations.
Both Brad and Eileen Smulson’s vision has inspired oh so many more throughout California and beyond!!!
OBOL deserves the recognition and the honor of the 2020 award!
I donate monthly as I am aware that the funds are well received by so many abandoned and suffering souls.
Kudos for OBOL!!!! Very grateful for Brad and Eileen’s vision and lives of purpose!

I have been a donor of both money and blankets/towels to Operation Blankets of Love for years. What started out as a small, local organization has grown into one of the most generous advocates for shelter animals all over the country. Eileen and Brad are selfless in their efforts to bring comfort to animals languishing in shelters.
Operation Blankets of Love (OBOL) collects and distributes desperately needed supplies to animal shelters. Many shelters in our area have no beds for the animals so they are on concrete floors during all types of weather. They also provide feed to shelters that are running low, bowls, toys, etc... These poor animals have nothing OBOL does so much to give them some comfort. They are a wonderful organization.
OBOL is run by some of the most kind, compassionate and enthusiastic people I’ve met in the rescue business. They graciously take donations of all kinds (food, leashes/collars, crates, blankets/sheets, and cozy items) and distribute them across SoCal to help some of the most vulnerable pets be comforted. Which besides being amazing, helps the mental well-being of these animals which increases their likelihood of getting adopted. Simply amazing. I’ve been a supporter for 7 years and I hope to be for 70 more!
I remember when Blankets of Love started more then 15/20 yrs ago and I remember the hard work Ellen and Brad did to get it started. It is still going strong and well run!
When the Virus hit, one of my first donations went to them!
They have total devotion to Rescuing animals(dogs)

I have a lot of blankets that come with information about me. thats what a blanket has, information about everything that has anything to do with it. im hoping my blankets will be used right so we can resurce our environments
Opening up (4) New Homeless shelters in Los Angeles isn't the easiest task. These shelters are all located in Los Angeles and Hollywood and they house homeless Men, Women, Children, and Emotional Support Animals & Sevice Animals. It takes a lot of different Organizations to bring our shelters to a place where our guests can call their temporary home.
Operation Blankets of Love has been one of the most important resources for myself and our shelters for the last five years! They are always there with open arms and well needed supplies- (Comfort and Care items) ranging from food and snacks to leashes, collars and more treats, plus; Beautiful Blankets and beds for our guests animals. All we would have to do is call Brad and Eileen Smulson and give them a list of what we need and arrange a pick-up date and all our needs and more will be met. OBOL- Operation Blankets of Love is a Heaven sent Non-Profit Organization, that i can't even begin to explain how much Love they have contributed to make our shelters run efficient and be productive and Pet Friendly. Our Sincere Gratitude goes out to OBOL... We are Voting OBOL as #1 Top Rated Non- Profit~
Thank you does not convey the depth of gratitude that is sent to operation Blankets of Love!!
It takes a village to support our local community in caring for the animals in need. Blankets of Love was there for us when we were in most dire need. We were at capacity and asked to house an 46 additional medical needs animals. Blankets of love came to our rescue with food, medical supplies, crates, dog beds and toys!! Their generous donation has allowed us not only to care for these animals, but aid in the adoption of all! The simple words of thank you will never be enough for the support and generous donations that they have provided us!
A heartfelt thank you for all you do!
Animal Basic Care Network
Operation Blankets Of Love May be a misleading title. Although they may have started out with just blankets. The organization has morphed into a full blown disaster relief, homeless supples provider, as well as a pet supplies and a real life food bank for unwanted homeless dogs and cats. For my particular rescue org. We specialize in medical and behavioral Mastiffs. “Out of the shelter” is NEVER safe. This is when the real work starts. A large breed dog with any sort of medical or behavioral issues can be hold-up in rescue on average for about a year. Feeding multiple Mastiffs can and is a daunting task. OBOL has cut our food bills down by 3/4. We were spending between $5,200-$5,800 on dog food per year. Now we only spend about $1,000 and the extra funding now goes towards medical bills or saving more dogs as there is funding for boarding and paid fosters. OBOL is a God send to both dogs and people alike. They have now added a new dimension of educating the young about early spay/neuter and the ethical treatment of animals. Early education is the key to lowering the homeless people and pet population in the future. Eileen and Brad are very forward thinking and to stop these issues at the root cause while supplying and underfunded community with much needed supplies.
This organization is full of the biggest most genuine hearts in the field. It was born of compassion and generosity, and functions as a “life-ring” to the community, at no cost to its beneficiaries. I hope for many more veterans aided, pets comforted, and fur-ever families brought together by Operation Blankets of Love.
I met Eileen and Brad in 2016 when I called them to help at a Homeless Connect Day. They said "yes we will be there" and they were wonderful. They gave pet food, blankets, leashes, collars and toys to homeless people with dogs and cats - with smiles and kind words. I was so impressed with what they did, and continue to do, that I joined them. Since then I've helped at many Homeless connect Days across San Fernando Valley and Santa Clarita Valley as an OBOL volunteer. The people we help are so thankful and at times cry because they are so happy they can still care for their fur babies. Thank you Eileen and Brad for creating OBOL.
OBOL and its Founders go to GREAT lengths to help ALL area animal shelters, foster rescue organizations, animal sanctuaries, Veterans with animals and homeless with animals, get the proper pet supplies and food they need to help their furry friends in need. Even in natural disasters like the recent fires, floods &earthquakes, OBOL is always there to help provide disaster recovery to the pets involved. OBOL is like the Red Cross for the animal world I proudly support this organization and have recently personally hosted a Fundraiser where 40 people attend to support their wonderful cause!
The love and care that OBOL provides is unbeatable! They have done and continue to do so much selfless work to help save thousands of animals! They are top notch!!
Operation Blankets of Love is an amazing one of a kind organization. The amount and variety of the supplies that Operation Blankets of Love GIVES AWAY for FREE to rescues, shelters, needy, homeless, and my favorite, the VETERANS of this Country. I have rescued multiple dogs and OBOL IS ALWAYS THERE to make sure that every animal has what they need to be happy and healthy. I do hospice fostering and I can only do this because of OBOL. Not only am I a recipient of their life saving love, I worked with them for a few years. Brad and Eileen make sure that no matter what the disaster is, you can count on Operation Blankets of Love being on the FRONT LINES handing out free supplies to comfort all the confused displaced animal. When our pets are at ease it makes a HUGE DIFFERENCE in allowing the humans to deal with the situation. This organization puts their own well being second when it comes to helping others in emergency moments.
Blankets of Love helped me when I started my rescue and helped me all along the way. I’ve also had the opportunity to work with the organization. All the people are wonderful and are doing such great things. Love, love Blankets of Love!!
I really enjoy working with Operation blankets of love because I am able to donate to so many shelters in my area. I use the obol children's activity book to teach children in Spanish and English how to care for a pet and to respect animals. The shelters and Veterans service dog groups are so thankful we can stock them up with supplies with just a phone call. OBOL has helped me do my part for homeless pets and Wounded Veteran's service dogs and it is so rewarding
Operation Blankets of Love has been there for me and countless nonprofits I have worked for or volunteered for through the years. "Do you have a wire crate?" Bam, it's there the next day. "Do you have any towels for cat trapping?" The response is, "when can you come get them."
They are so generous with finding items that will work for the situation if it is to help dogs, cats, rabbits, wildlife - you name it, they have comfort and useful foster items that help save lives.
Whenever there is a disaster that involves animals my first thought is, "I bet OBOL is there helping them." Only later do I get the confirmation via social media that indeed, they were there to help rescuers save lives.
Thank you Eileen, Brad, your volunteers and all who donate financially and through gifts in kind to make this the important organization it is today. If the animals could talk they too would mew, bark or pinky, "Thanks OBOL for making us more comfy while we wait for our forever homes."
I moved here to California from NYC just about a year ago with my mom and my rescue dog Lyric. When I got here I was unemployed and looking for a job. During that time I had heard about the great work OBOL had been doing for so many people and their pets. I reached out and got a ton of information about what OBOL does and was totally amazed by what they had accomplished over the years. They donated a new pet bed, leash, collar, a few cute dog outfits, a carry case so I can bike with my baby, and tons of food and treats. The amount of money they saved me was insurmountable. I was down on my luck they came to my rescue for my rescue. I will never forget how they were there for me and Lyric!
As a volunteer at a local nursing home I was offered hundreds of used blankets & towels, some with frayed edges & a few holes to donate to OBOL. No longer used for the residents these items were welcomed for the animals in need. The nursing home was glad to be able recycle them to such a good cause.Thank you OBOL.
I first learned about Operation Blankets of Love in 2016 when I asked for help with a Homeless Event in Santa Clarita. I visited their facility and was impressed with what they provide for dogs and cats of homeless people, shelters and recuses. They were at our event with open arms giving them everything they needed from food, dog beds, crates, leashes, collars, bowls and blankets (blankets good enough for people too). Also, whenever or wherever there's a need (hurricanes, fires, earthquakes in different parts of our county, OBOL is there helping out. I was so impressed that I've became a volunteer helping at Homeless Connect Days and hope to continue volunteering for many years to come. Thank you Eileen and Brad.
I donate both money and used blankets/towels. They are a great organization bringing happiness and hope to animals.
I had signed up for an email list with Best Friends Animal Society at a street fair and later on got an email about a Drag Show to benefit Operation Blankets of Love. Seeing that they were based in my neighborhood, I decided to reach out to see if there was some way I could get involved. My rescue, Clyde, changed my life for the better in countless ways and so I wanted to do whatever I could to help other pups realize that for their human pets. Since then, I have volunteered with OBOL at least once a month, I help spread the word of the great work they do for our animal community and I've made some great friends. A great organization, run by amazing, caring people that I am proud to be a part of.
OBOL is an amazing organization which works tirelessly to support homeless animals. Eileen and Brad are extraordinary individuals.
I have been a volunteer for Operation Blankets of Love for about two years. This is an organization that is very close to my heart because the mission of the founders, Eileen and Brad Smulson, is to save shelter and homeless animals. They do this by providing all types of supplies (blankets, beds, crates, food, leashes, collars etc.) to shelters and animal rescue groups that do not have the resources for many of these items. A dog or cat who can sleep on a blanket or pet bed instead of a cement slab becomes a happier animal and a happier animal is often more "adoptable" than one who isn't. In addition they provide supplies to pets of the homeless and are responders for providing these supplies to hurricane, flood and/or fire victims. I have worked with and observed Eileen and Brad as they work tirelessly to save these precious animals. When a call comes in to them from someone saying they need assistance OBOL is there to help! Their dedication and love for the voiceless ones is truly inspirational. In addition, a very important aspect of their work is to provide humane education to children of all ages. I have been involved with this program and have visited schools with Eileen where children are given information on caring for pets in an interactive and fun way. They have made a fabulous English-Spanish coloring and activity book called "How to Care for Our Pet Pals" which is distributed to schools and is a wonderful tool for teaching children how to respect and care for all types of pets. It truly is an honor for me to volunteer for Operation Blankets of Love and to be a part of Eileen and Brad's honorable mission.
Eileen & Brad are so dedicated to helping comfort all animals in need. They go above and beyond in every way possible. Everyone at OBOL is dedicated and passionate about education and comfort to all animals. It's an honor to help them.
Operation Blankets of Love is an organization with a heartfelt mission, run by the most selfless of people. Giving so generously to any who ask or are in need, OBOL provides lifesaving support to various shelters, rescues, and pets of both veterans and the homeless. The world is a little brighter each day because of their dedication to animals in need.
Operation Blankets of Love always goes above and beyond when it comes to providing comfort and survival items to homeless animals. When a beloved rescue I have adopted from (Dobies and Little Paws) found themselves in evacuation due to the SoCal fires last winter, OBOL made multiple trips out to the evacuation site with blankets and food for the dogs. But the help didn't stop there! They are continuing to support this rescue and countless others with the donated items they procure and distribute. Hats off to them!
OBOL has been there for sooo many nonprofits, shelters and rescuers in times of crisis and on an ongoing basis helping comfort homeless pets. Their generosity is endless - they provide blankets, towels, food, toys, cages, carriers, leashes, collars, etc. that keep costs low for those caring for animals in need. Their education programs for children have helped spread compassion to the next generation. Shelters rely on them on an ongoing basis for animals who need fresh bedding and comfort during their stay - it makes them more adoptable too! Rescues who have little to no funds can call OBOL day or night (practically) with request for carriers during fires, major rescues, or when their supplies run low. The public loves giving to OBOL to take their gently used items and convert them to life-saving products for rescued pets. I can't speak highly enough of Eileen and Brad Smulson and their volunteer team who always have the animals first in their heart. It's truly a labor of love and they need more support for gas for all the thousands of miles they rack up driving needed goods to shelters, rescues, etc. all over the state of CA. They also need to disburse information at their drop-off sites, in schools and for the general public. I will always support the work of Operation Blankets of Love - won't you?
Operation Blankets of Love has given me hundreds of dollars worth of pet food and supplies. This allows me to foster cats and save them from being euthanized in overcrowded shelters. Without them, I couldn't afford to do it!
Review from Guidestar
I met Eileen and Brad Smulson about 2 years ago because of my work with Animal Rescue here in Northern Baja MX (CA). They started this wonderful non-profit when Eileen, who worked in the corporate world, visited a animal shelter and saw the many dogs shivering and afraid as they laid on cold metal in their cages. That was the genesis and from their Eileen quit her job and began her work to collect and distribute as many blankets, blankets and beds to the hundreds of thousand dogs in need. They in turn give selflessly to other rescues like our little entire volunteer organization, VIVA, here in San Felipe. They have donated many blankets, towels, toys and food to help us help other animals in need. I think this non-profit should be one selected by your organization for consideration. We are working on establishing our own 5013-C here so that we too might be able to apply for help. The need is tremendous and the drain on our limited finances constant. Thank You for your consideration of "Operation Blankets of Love"
I first heard of Operation Blankets of Love through a co-worker who was collecting blankets at the time. Being the proud parent of a shelter cat that I adopted over four years ago, I immediately gathered whatever I could from storage and friends, washed them all up, and brought them into work for my friend to donate to the cause. I have even contacted Eileen via email and she responded very quickly and was very nice.
This organization is amazing. It donates blankets to animals in the pound. The pounds have no budget for any type of floor coverings. The animals are put on cold cemet floors. They are already scared, and some sick. The little warmth these blankets bring can turn a cold scare animal into one that can be rehomed. Please dontat your old balnkets, washclothes, and sheets to this organiztion. It makes a big difference to these poor animals.
