Mission: Open table ministry seeks to provide a faithful response to and an enhanced understanding of homelessness in our community, and to guide homeless people towards long term health and wholeness by building relationships, meeting practical needs, and connecting with existing community resources.
Target demographics: the homeless community, in particular the unsheltered
Direct beneficiaries per year: In 2016 we provided almost 4000 meals, provided temporary shelter for 46 individuals and children, and partnered with other agencies to obtain permanent housing for 36 individuals. We also distributed almost 200 pairs of long underwear, more than 50 pairs of boots and shoes, and more than 1000 pairs of socks.
Geographic areas served: Downtown Durham, NC
Programs: Clothing/tents/furnishings: We provide our homeless clients with basic needs such as new clothing and shoes; we give away tents and sleeping bags to keep the homeless sheltered from the weather, and heaters and propane tanks to provide heat in winter plus the ability to cook food.
emergency shelter: We provide our homeless clients with safe housing during times of medical need, inclement or dangerous weather, or other dire situations as warranted.
food: We provide our homeless clients a hot lunch weekly as a means of fellowship and gathering.
case work: We meet with them individually to discuss their overall status and progress while providing an opportunity for counseling and assistance with obtaining housing.
