Open Media Foundation (OMF) hired me on a commission-only compensation basis from October, 2017 through March, 2018. They appreciated my work and hired me on a 32-hour work week from May 1 st through July 27, 2018.
On July 26, 2018, the executive director called me into a conference room and told me the commissions I had earned were “giving him a headache” and that either I could forfeit the commissions or lose my job.
He gave me 5 minutes to decide.
The following day, the executive director leaned over my desk, screamed in my face, and cursed at me, saying that he ‘f---ing hated dealing with this situation’ and that I was attempting to take advantage of the organization by attempting to claim commissions that I had earned. I felt as if he was going to physically attack me. He stared me down throughout the day.
At another point that day, he suggested that my attempting to recover due commissions stemmed from a psychological problem of feeling undervalued and that this was something he would need to watch while managing me moving forward.
Given the harassment and failure to pay due compensation, I was forced to quit the organization. I have been attempting to fully recover due commission ever since.
