I have the honor and blessing of knowing Shernet James and she is what makes One Love 4 Kids a successful and amazing nonprofit. Her hard work and determination result in putting smiles on the faces of children. Members of my church, Seneca Creek, joined with Shernet to have a day of service for children. We gave out stuffed animals, clothes and treats. We had a children's author read to the children. We had a crafts table where the kids could make their own bookmarks. It was a wonderful day of love and fun. What could be more important than making a difference in the life of a child. Hats off to Shernet!!!

Tutoring, scholarships, supply (clothing, education, food, medical…) distributions, literacy programs, and community outreach programs are just some ways in which One Love 4 Kids has been changing lives (US, Jamaica, Africa...) and impacting the world. It’s an honor to be the founder of an organization that has been changing lives for more than 6 years. One Love 4 Kids is a 100% lead volunteer organization that aims to meet the needs of children and families affected by poverty and abuse. Programs are carried out with limited recourses and financial support. Nevertheless, One Love 4 Kids strives to set a high standard of leadership as it continues to focus on the needs of the people and the positive impact being made in the lives of others and the world. One Love 4 Kids is about changing lives for the better. And the organizations’ education development programs, community outreach programs, and health programs have been doing so for over 6 years. As a result, One Love 4 Kids is always grateful for the hundreds of women, children and men who make it possible for us to be a small organization that is making a huge impact. But there is still much more that One Love 4 Kids need in org to be successful. So please take the time to learn about our work and us. And as always, your support is appreciated and needed. I do some fundraising to provide small bursaries to help students, particularly high school students, in Jamaica who are struggling to meet basic needs such as transportation costs, lunch, tuition fees n exam fees.

One Love 4 Kids has been a helping hand on more than one occasion for the above-mentioned.

Thank you to One Love 4 Kids, Shernet James for a generous heart n spirit. May you continue to be blesses!

This non-profit organization goes far beyond its' expectations for the children of the community. The volunteers are amazing and so are the organizers...... They really care about the needs of the children including their educational, material and basic fundamental needs. All of the requirements to grow healthy and happy, well-balanced children are strived for and are lovingly met with the help of internal and outside donations. I love helping in any way I can.

As a board member, I have been with One Love 4 Kids since it's infancy.
I have seen both the progress and the challenges that we, as a organization,
have faced in helping our community both locally and abroad. Although we
have continue to face challenges, One Love 4 Kids has continued to offer supports to anyone with our limited resources.

OL4K prides itself on the our many charitable endeavors that we have embarked on. Our organization is one that believes that a healthy community is the best community. And as such, we continue to persevere through our most difficulty times. However, in order for us to continue doing our work, we well need both volunteers and additional funding.

With very limited funding, and volunteer help, OL4K continues to provides goods and services for various programs. The communities we serve greatly appreciate our contributions and we are very happy that we are able to provide help.

I had the pleasure of volunteering during a community literacy event organized by One Love 4 Kids. Families had the opportunity to meet an author and hear him read his books. Children made bookmarks, were given a book to take home, and participated in other fun activities designed to get them excited about reading. We were also excited to partner with our local community center, which hosted the afternoon. Job well done!

I am proud to be associated with One Love 4 Kids. I have seen this organization help so many people all year round. They have changed lives and empowered individuals. They have provided more than material items to those that come in contact with them. They have provided advice, security, self help skills for persons and overall just positive reinforcement. It is also awesome to see kids of all ages involved in giving back. Continue to do what you do best One Love 4 Kids organization.

I met the Founder and CEO of One Love 4 Kids, Inc. in 2010 when she volunteered to partner with me on a project. Shernet James and I partnered for the next four (4) years. Her organization, One Love 4 Kids, Inc. has helped me by providing funds for i) a nutrition program and ii) a sports program at a primary school in Jamaica. Some of the children also received personal effects, clothes, shoes etc.

With very limited funds, this organization has managed to host summer school programs for needy children. Volunteers and children were provided with lunch.

I am amazed now (as I was back then) as to how charitable, forward-thinking, tenacious and multi-faceted Shernet James is. She possesses a wealth of ideas on how to positively affect the lives of under-served and at-risk children globally.

One Love 4 Kids, Inc. has also provided tutoring services to children at no cost to families. Children were fed and instructed in spaces that were rented.

The efforts of this organization are thwarted by lack of funding. More volunteers are also needed.

I would love to see One Love 4 Kids, Inc. grow exponentially and reach more at-risk children.

I volunteer with One Love 4 Kids through their tutoring program. The students I tutor range from age 6 to 6th grade. What I like most is the joy that appears on a student's face when there is that 'aha' moment when a math concept finally makes sense. The frustration turns to joy. It warms the heart.

This organization has helped to transform the lives of children not only in the United States, but also internationally. Its grassroots efforts help to bring hope and inspiration to communities of children in need, as well as tangible resources that will impact their lives and continue to position them for success.

I have personally volunteered at a One Love 4Kids event, where I was afforded the opportunity to see firsthand of the joy that children received from being gifted with such necessities as clothing, shoes, books and more. This is the type of work that needs to be visible as well as celebrated!

Our donors and volunteers are the backbone of this organization and we could not have gotten this far without all of you. But there is still much more that One Love 4 Kids need in org to be successful. So please take the time to learn about our work and us. And as always, your support is appreciated and needed. As donations have continued to decrease, the need of the goods and services that we provide has remained high. As a result, we are always looking for additional ways to increase our funding as we continue to meet the needs of those who need our love and assistance. Join me in supporting One Love 4 Kids. I was able to see and experience first hand what the CASACO foundation did, I had volunteer with them at their annual Christmas treat in December 2010. The organizers and funders make sure that that every single child was fed and got their bag with goodies, which include book bags, pencils, crayons and other things that they were happy to have. Without this organization many of these children would not be able to have a clean pair of socks to put on Christmas day. I was happy to take some time out of my vacation to give a helping hand, if there were more organization like this one, that try to make a difference in the lives of those who are less fortunate this world would be a better place to live in, I have seen the shine in the children eyes and the smile on their faces. A job well done on that day.

As a teacher, I am well aware of the many challenges and needs children within the Jamaican society face on a daily basis. It is indeed a fact that many of our children would achieve more if they could get a strong foundation and ultimately a sound education. Unfortunately, many of our students miss out on these opportunities because of the lack of resources and financial stability. As such I must say that I really recognize the effort that One Love 4 Kids is making to fill the gaps as they strive to improve the lives of children within the Jamaican communities. They have taken a holistic approach in the overall development and well-being of our Jamaican youths-which I am sure, will scaffold the younger generation and the Jamaican society at large. One Love 4 kids your efforts are invaluable, keep up the good work.

Its always a pleasure to find time to give back, to anyone or anything, when then oppertunity came to be a voluteer for one love for kids i felt , blessed, honered and garteful to have returned to my community to give back. To give is to receive and thats what we do at one love for kids, we put a smile on a child face by just being present in these inner cities, we put a shoe on someones feet ,who might have been trodding the roads bare feet for decades, we allow all kids to go to school with supplies. These inner cities mark the dates to welcome us knowing full well , that they will be blessed somehow.Deuteronomy 15 vs 10 says give generously to him and do so without a grudging heart; then because of this the lord you god will bless you in all your work and everything you put your hand to.So here we an organization started by family funded by family giving in love and beleiving in faith for in to become bigger better and brighter. I am tremendously pleased with the work that One Love 4 Kids foundation is doing for the children in Jamaica. OL4K provide children with the basic necessity they need to thrive and grow, such as school supplies, uniforms, meals, medical and monetary aide. One Love 4 Kids is an inspiring Non-Profit foundation that children in Jamaica depends on, and look forward to especially during the holidays and back to school. But what I am especially proud of is the compassion the Co-founder of OL4K has toward the children of Jamaica. I am pleased to be a co-founder, volunteer and president at One Love 4 Kids - a 501 (c) (3) charitable organization serving children and families.

One Love 4 Kids (OL4K) is a small, but growing organization that has seen tremendous growth in the number of children, schools and families that it serves every year. Each year since 2007 OL4K has provided food, clothing, school supplies, health and career advice and much more to needy children and families in Jamaica. However, the great thing about OL4K is our volunteers' awareness that children are best understood within the context of their homes, families, schools, community and society. Consequently, OL4K utilizes an integrated (family, school, community…) approach as it aims to meet the education, health and economic needs of sick, disabled, abused and poor children in Jamaica.

You can make a difference by joining our group of caring board members and volunteers who make it possible for many children to develop in productive members of their families, communities, schools and society.
Thanks and One Love Always~

Casaco foundation was founded by Mrs. Shernet Dixon-James a Jamaican who grew up in a very humble home with her mother and four sisters. Due to her trying circumstances like going to school and receiving other basic needs growing up, she always demonstrate a passion for helping those who are in a similar situation. Hence the forming of this foundation.
For the past three years she has visited Jamaican inner city communities, her alma mater Providence Primary School, homes for the disabled and also homes for boys and girls who are less fortunate than others. I have been a volunteer for her organization for these yeas because I see the benefits, joy and smiles it brought to all these faces whom have benefited from her foundation.
What I admire about the foundation is that the founder herself gives a lot of hands on contribution as nothing is too difficult for her to do. She makes presentations, she shares with the children, reads for them, sings for them and cries with them. She finds out their individual interest and makes them available. She makes things happen. Things are not just promised, they are being delivered.
Some of the supplies which are donated to these less fortunate children are books and stationeries, clothing and shoes, bags for school and for special needs, equipment to help students grasp learning concepts easier.
I remember Christmas 2010, the foundation held a treat in Kingston Jamaica, Mountain View. In my view that was the treat for the year. The children and their parents came out looking forward to have a lovely time and they did. They were feted with speeches from representative from the Ministry of Education, constable and inspector from the police force both encouraging the children to be exemplary citizens. Dinner, ice cream, cakes drinks soups, sweets, giveaways of educational items were made available.
Children were allowed to show piece their talent and basically to be themselves.
The Casaco Foundation was also involved in another treat in the Mountain View Back Bush area which again gave satisfaction to many people. The aim of Casaco is to take their donations and what they believe in all over the Caribbean. I wish them all the best.

Too often the social problems of illiteracy, hunger, and even poverty are overlooked or sheltered under the 'wings' of jamaica's sceneries, hotels, night life and culture on a whole. This foundation lends itself not only by donating essentials but also dedicates time and energy into the needs of others.

This organization has been very helpful to children in Jamaica who don't have a lot. I volunteered to help Mrs.Shernet Dixon-James because what she has chosen to do with her life is very appreciative. During her stay in Jamaica I have helped to distribute school supplies and foodstuff to children's homes, schools and also the community in which she resided for her duration in Jamaica.

At the children's home we took pictures giving the supples to the children and also speaking to the founder. Mrs.Shernet Dixon-James has shown that help can come from anyone. Her organization has made people feel that there is a sense of hope in living.

In December 2010, a treat was held for approximately 200 children in the community of Top Range in Mountain View in Kingston, Jamaica. Clothing, foodstuff, dinner among other items were distributed.

The exemplary work done by Mrs. Shernet Dixon-James and her sister Mrs. Tanya Dixon-Phillips (founders of CASACO) shows that every one of us can make a difference.

These young ladies along with their fellow board members and volunteers have worked tirelessly and selflessly to bring what seemed at first a wild idea to something much more tangible...an organization that is making a difference in the life of poor at underprivileged kids in communities across the Caribbean.

Their absolute commitment to helping these kids is the fuel which drives their efforts and has transmitted itself to the other board members, donors and volunteers like myself.

In December 2010, after spending months of canvassing donations of everything from cash to foodstuff to clothes and shoes to diapers and toys, the foundation put on a treat for approximately 200 kids in the community of Mountain View in Kingston, Jamaica.

The event was well organized and very well received by the kids who benefited from it as well as their parents.

It was hard to tell who enjoyed the treat more, the kids who we catered to or the parents who enjoyed a couple of hours of downtime while at the treat, or us the volunteers who took great pleasure in catering to kids.

CASACO is still a growing organization but the steadfast commitment shown by its founders and their infectious enthusiasm will ensure its success in the years to come

I met Ms. Shernet Dixon of the CASACO Foundation over the telephone back in October or November of 2010. She wanted to donate some items to approxiamately three (3) schools in Jamaica and to host a Christmas treat for children in one (1) community. Being a non-profit organisation, she wanted assistance in getting the items cleared from the wharf when they got to Jamaica, I advised her that she would need to contact the schools and have them write a letter to the Mnistry of Education in Jamaica and they would provide a waiver for the Government taxes. She called me several days later to say that the school principals aren't being helpful because when she told them list of items and that the items will have to be shared among the three (3) schools they wouldn't write to the Ministry of Education unless they were receiving ALL of what she had listed. Any normal person in my view would say to themselves,

"these people are greedy and selfish and I wont have anything more to do with them"

Needless to say, this was not her view, she called me back and asked,

"How can we help the children without involving the principals?"

I advised her that she can send all the documents along with a list of the items to me and i would show it to my supervisor and if he found the items acceptable for schools she could ship them to the Ministry of Education, Jamaica and we could provide the waiver from the Mistry and she could collect the items and deliver them to the students herself. That is what she did. she was RESILIENT. She never gave up when the going got rough.

One last thing, she called back to say THANKS, being a Government employee, it is viewed that the service we provide is our job and therefore we need not hear 'thank you' for doing your job. Ms. Dixon did not think that, she realised that without my help she would not have been able to do what she did and she called to say 'THANK YOU'.

I have volunteered with Casaco Foundation since 2007. I have seen the impact that Casaco Foundation has made in the lives of more the 1000+ children in the top Range Community and other communities, schools and orphanages in Jamaica.
Casaco Foundation has work very hard to provide food, clothing, books, school supplies, toiletries, toys, special education equipment and more to so many children in need. As a result, many children in Jamaica now have access to material needed for school. The members of Casaco foundation has worked diligently to get funds to cover the cost of shipping items to Jamaica and clearing them from customs. I have seen firsthand how the foundation president worked hard in 2010 to obtain a waiver from the Ministry of Education in Jamaica in order to clear a shipment of 3 boxes and 5 barrels containing books, backpacks, clothing, calculators, crayons, personal hygiene products and other school and personal supplies that the children need. These items were donated to New Providence Primary School, Hope Valley Experimental School, Jamaica Christian Boys Home, St. Anthony’s Children Home, Best care Children’s Home, and children in the Top Range, Backbush Community and neighboring communities.
Casaco Foundation is making it possible for many children to be exposed to literacy materials which arevery important for success in life and beyond. The foundation is working to revitalize a school in school in Kingston, and they are also trying to sponsor abuse children living in orphanages. Casaco Foundation is also looking to assist the Top Range Community implement and mentoring program, library and computer lab. This is all good stuff, but we need money and support to make it happen.

I am very proud of the work of this organization. The Caribbean is a very beautiful place yes But beyond the warm sun, beautifl beaches there are many problems , problems that goes unseen. one of which is the affordability of education. This foundation will assist and positively impact the lives of many and they have my 100% support

i am truly proud of the work this organization is doing. Too many times, attention is only placed in African nations and not in this part of the hemisphere(the Caribbean) where there are many persons in need of very basic needs such as food, clothing even running water! Truly applaud this charity. Great initiative!

Jamaica is often times seen as a shining jewel in the Caribbean to tourists who come to the island to escape from their everyday lives. They get to see the other amenities the island has to offer visitors but rarely see the true Jamaica. The true Jamaica consists of an island where kids go to bed sometimes with little to no food to eat at night and the clothes they wear are falling off of their backs. The parents of these children can hardly find the money to provide the basics which leaves the children having to manage with nothing a majority of the times.

The CASACO foundation is seeking to make an impact on some of these issues through various activities and community outreach programs throughout the island. On a recent trip to the they were able to hold several clothing drives that provided clothes to kids who are currently and have been in an orphanage for most of their lives. They have no family to turn to that can provide basic necessities but CASACO was able to do that. On another outing they were able to hold a community event where they put on a live show, provided a hot meal and also passed out books to children who could not afford them but were eager to learn.

Although the foundation is still in its infancy, with the right funding they will be able to make an impact on an island where the people are not as fortunate as others. It’s important to remember that helping others should not be something you do because you feel guilty but rather something you do because you have the means to do so and it’s the right thing to do. CASACO is an organization that will go on to impact the lives of many Jamaicans and hopefully can help provide the people of the island with the little comforts they otherwise might not be able to afford.

This is a great charity and I happily donated my clothing and household items to them when I was preparing to move. They even donated some items I gave them no questions asked to Goodwill that they couldn't use for their project. And gave me the receipt as well. This was very generous of them and saved me time as well.

Jamaica and other Caribbean nations are often looked at for their beautiful beaches, warm sunshine, good food and more. But, too often we forget some of the real issues that plague these nations. CASACO Foundation is doing an awesome thing by championing efforts to further educate and inspire young people throughout various communities.

I am very familiar with the founders of this organization and strongly support their efforts to reach masses of young people, through their various program initiatives. They are working to open a library, to partner with local teachers to enhance the educational experience for kids as well as open a computer lab to further advance the skillsets of these young individuals; presenting them with opportunities to utilize what they have learned to enhance their quality of life.

Winning the Winter 2011 GuideStar-KIMBIA Nonprofit giveaway would help the CASACO Foundation to impact many lives and help to steer a generation in the right direction. Please support their efforts with this award.

Growing up in a country where many kids specially young girls are not educated always inspired me to do something about it. The CASACO foundation is actually doing what i always dreamed of doing by providing books, toys, hygienic products to the less fortunate. They plan on opening a library, having local teachers come in and teach the kids how to read and write. The foundation will like to open a computer lab maybe renovate a school , support young athletes in the most deprived neighborhoods.
Winning the Winter 2011 GuideStar-KIMBIA Nonprofit Giveaway will help the CASACO foundation change the lives of many.

There is an old Chinese Proverb: “Give a man a fish and you feed him for a day. Teach a man to fish and you feed him for a lifetime.” The CASACO Foundation strives to improve the lives of children who are deprived of fundamental educational needs. In the past few years, I have watched the CASACO foundation move from an idea discussed around a table and flourish into an awe-inspiring organization that has and continues to provide substantial help to hundreds of children in Jamaica in the form of food, clothing, shoes, bags and school supplies.

The CASACO foundation intends to build a library as well as a computer lab in the coming years. The library will give the children access to books that they otherwise would not have access to as well as a place to read/study in peace in a region surrounded by chaos. We tend to take the things that we have for granted. While computers are an everyday convenience to us, most of the children in this program have not had any contact with computers. A computer lab will not only increase the children’s skill sets, it will also give them access to the rest of the world. Allow them to extend their dreams beyond their every day set-ups.

By improving the education opportunities of today’s impoverished children, the foundation is shaping the futures of their families. The passion displayed by the founders of the CASACO Foundation is exemplary. One of the founders said to me in conversation: “It is a mistake to do nothing because you can only do little- do what you can and make a small difference.” We can all learn from this. Winning this grant will make a world of difference for the children and families in the Caribbean.

I have worked with the CASACO foundation as a board member for the past two years. I have personally been involved with the outreach that CASACO has provided in Jamaica. This past year I was able to take part in a service project in the Kingston neighborhood of Mountain View. About 200 children were treated to speakers, games, food and supplies for food. The foundaton included speakers from the government and the local police to try and ispire the children to do what is right in their community.

I also felt that the event could have been better organized in regard to the clean up after the event. We should have set up garbage bags throughout the facility in which the event took place so all of the garbage could have been deposited by the people who were discarding the garbage. Many people just dropped their food containers on the ground rather than in garbage bags.

Other than that I feel this particular event was a success due to the high volume of participants and the fact that everyone stayed for the entire event.

Supplies for the event were gathered in a number of different ways. Some of the supplies were purchased by the CASACO foundation officers at local stores. Other items were donated by CASACO contributors. We also collected items in White Plains, New York at a local Church of God, International congregation that we have partnered with for future events.

As a donor and a watchdog on behalf of children I have been involved and monitoring CASACO Foundation since its early days. My philanthropic contributions include five annual scholarships to local schools as well as support for a number of other non-profit causes. As a recipient of a “Champion for Children” award in my community, I am well aware of what it takes to make a difference and I can safely state that the passion that CASACO and its staff has demonstrated towards the improvement of their community and, in particular the children is exemplary. In today’s world, it has becomeincreasingly difficult to discern between true organizations or endowments. It is very important for private fortunes to become financial endowments that are given annually to colleges, universities and, in particular, private institutions. Clearly, some large educational institutions desperately needthese funds as part of their operating or capital requirements. From property improvements and state of theart equipment to endowed professorships, these funds fulfill a significant need. However, for individuals such as myself who believe that all children—not just a selective few—are entitled to a starting point from where to launch their lives, grassroots organizations are worthy of admiration. CASACO is one of these. And because none of us has a crystal ball that tells us where or when the next wave of leaders will emanate from, it is up to grassroots organization to lead the way, even in small dosages. We must remember that leadership—whether industrial, political, civic, or religious—lives deep inside our hearts and is usually fueled by a good mix of adversity and good will. CASACO is plantingseeds that will be harvested by these children as they near adulthood. Their work is not only essential, but should serve as a model for others to follow.

The CASACO FOUNDATION exemplifies the spirit of giving and helping those in the greatest of need. The goals they set for helping the impoverished childeren and orphans in Jamaica is truly inspiring. Think of what it would mean to these kids to have a library with decent resources so that they can educate themselves to better their own community. In this world, knowledge is power and this project would be a small but vital part in helping children, who normally would not have the resources, to gain the knowledge and become the future power of their country.

It amazes me how two person can affect thousands of children and families in need. This organization brings hope and strength to those who struggle with providing for themselves and other family members. Education is a valued asset amongst many who are unfortunate and Shernett and Tanya both, provide the tools needed for those who seek a better education and want the American dream. Whether its books, clothing, hygiene products or just a hot meal, it means a lot to those who don't receive it or have no way of getting it. Organizations like this particular one needs to stay alive. Not just to give, but to make people aware of the deep-rooted struggles and hardship of those on an island that is normally betrayed as just a awesome vacation spot. If any organization deserves $5,000 it should be the Caribbean Student and Community Outreach.

I was first introduced to the the Caribbean Student and Community Outreach Foundation more than a year ago, when I met Shernet Dixon-James. Having grown up in Jamaica, herself, Shernet is deeply committed to improving the lives of the children there. Her passion for and commitment to providing much-needed supplies to community schools and orphanages in Jamaica is evident. Traveling to Jamaica annually to work directly with school and orphanage administrators, Shernet devotes a tremendous amount of her time to raising funds and gathering supplies to send to Jamaica. My family has donated items that Shernet has been able to send to Jamaica for the children, as well. With Shernet's creativity and her knack for leveraging resources to benefit the Foundation, the $5000 available here can allow her to make a huge impact and change the lives of so many Jamaican children.
