One House At A Time

The One House At A Time Beds for Kids program supplies new beds and associated items to needy children in the greater Philadelphia area. In addition to the bed, each child receives a sturdy metal frame, pillow, pillowcase, sheets a blanket or comforter a new toothbrush, age-appropriate books and a stuffed animal. A small staff and many volunteers make this operation work. To date OHAAT has supplied over 2,000 new beds to needy children this year. The work done by this organization is incredibly important. I have volunteered, brought tours to the facility, participated in fundraising and help with spreading the word at my school. The director has come to speak to my students. The program is such a benefit to the community and everyone is sincerely touched and thankful when they receive donations from Beds for Kids. The leadership is kind, hard-working and generous of their time and talent. Volunteers are always welcomed and encouraged to do what they can! This is truly a. wonderful organization which I am so glad to have in my mocal community.

OHAAT’s Beds for Kids program is changing lives for families in Greater Philadelphia. For families struggling to survive in today’s challenging economic environment, Beds for Kids ensures that children have a safe, comfortable bed to call their own, along with a bedding set, book, and stuffed animal.

In addition the Beds for Kids staff and trained volunteers offer high-touch, thoughtful service to families, adjusting protocols as needed throughout the COVID-19 pandemic to keep serving the community in need, while minimizing risk.

I fully support OHAAT's Beds for Kids mission for several reasons.
First, as a long-time bed delivery volunteer, I have personally seen how effectively, quickly and inexpensively lives can be changed by something as ordinary as a bed. Until I got involved, I never knew that there was a need for simple, but good quality, beds for children. Nor did I know how extensive this need was, and is, in the Philadelphia area.
Second, I know that OHAAT has a strong and diverse group of volunteers that believe in what OHAAT is doing, without exception. My own group of volunteers has supported OHAAT for over 6 years. Routinely, on our 9 or 10 designated Saturdays each year, we get up early, load the OHAAT truck, and spend the next several hours delivering beds to underprivileged families. All of us come away from each experience humbled and grateful to have been able to do something that is immediately important and valuable for the families that OHAAT serves.
Third, I support OHAAT because I have seen how it spends its money and how dedicated its very small staff is to the cause. A visit to its warehouse shows that OHAAT's mission is all about beds (as well as sheets, pillow cases and stuffed animals) and that overhead is kept low. This is as it should be.
Finally, and for all these reasons, I support OHAAT financially and try to encourage others I know to do the same. Metropolitan Philadelphia is fortunate to have OHAAT working to make it a better place. And, OHAAT's volunteers are also fortunate to be part of that.

They are efficient with volunteers maximizing the impact they have on our community.
