Mission: To provide education and employment opportunities for communities in africa that are severely impoverished.
Programs: Fresh water projects: one heart africa built two fresh-water wells in the 2014 fiscal year. The first was in licilo, mozambique - an village of 6,000 which only has one other source of clean water which is a well dug by one heart africa in 2013. The second well was dug in siteki, swaziland and is also the first clean water source in a three-mile radius. The total amount of people who now have access to clean water is 200.
in the fiscal year 2014, one heart africa established a sustainable farm project in siteki, swaziland for the purpose of training and employing locals living with hiv as well as sustainably grown, organic, nutrient-dense produce for families in siteki that have at least one hiv-positive family member. Two 800-plant shadegardens were built and five acres of land were cleared for growing crops. At harvest time, the produce from the farm was able to feed 25-30 families. This farm employs two local, full-time farmers and offers seasonal harvesting jobs to 20 local widows.
sharing hope preschool in licilo, mozambique provides free education and daily meals to its students. In 2014, sharing hope preschool had 70 students enrolled and trained and employed four local mothers as teachers and support staff. The children in sharing hope school receive clean water access (one of two sources for the village of 6,000), daily meals, medical attention, and free, quality education.
trash pickup program: trash cans were installed in rural villages in swaziland to help decrease sickness from infants and children playing in the trash. This program impacts 250-300 people. Vision trips: young adults travel to our projects in swaziland and mozambique to volunteer and learn first-hand about sustainable community development in southern africa.
