Nonprofit Overview

Causes: Animal Protection & Welfare, Animals

Mission: On My Way Home Rescue is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization located in Las Vegas, Nevada. We rescue dogs, cats, small animals, reptiles, and farm animals, although most of the animals that we intake are dogs. We are a foster-based organization at present. In our rescue, we focus upon rehabilitating the animals that we rescue on an individual-basis approach. We espouse a socially conscious rescue philosophy of transparency, commitment to excellence, and focus on the needs of each animal individually. We believe in quality over quantity in order to maximize the potential for each animal in our care. We accept animals from high-kill animal shelters, owner surrenders, neglect situations, and puppy mills. Some of these animals have been abused, neglected, abandoned, forgotten, or simply re-homed due to necessity or convenience. In addition, we help pet owners and other non-profit organizations in need of financial support get necessary and affordable services for animals in need. In our rescue, each animal receives a full medical evaluation, temperament testing, foster care, rehabilitation, training, spay/neuter, microchipping, vaccinations, dental attention if needed, and other medical care as-needed. They are each placed into an appropriate foster home that has been vetted by our team. Because we tailor the rescue process to the unique characteristics of each animal, we have enjoyed a great success rate with our adoptive families, as each animal’s individual needs are identified and addressed prior to their adoption into loving forever homes. Our adoption process itself requires meeting each animal, followed by a cooling off period of at least overnight away from the animal to remove the risk of spontaneity adoptions. A home check is required. While not every adopter is approved for adoption, the focus is always upon what is best for the animal so that they are placed as responsibly as possible.

Target demographics: Animals needing rescue from high kill shelters and owner surrendered animals that we can keep from entering the shelter system.

Direct beneficiaries per year: 50 animals to find their forever homes.

Geographic areas served: Southern Nevada with Las Vegas as our primary area of focus.

Programs: Medical care, rehabilitation, fostering, and love while a forever family is found for each animal.

On My Way Home Rescue is by far the most ethical and amazing Rescue I have ever come across in all of my years of being a pet owner. Stephanie went above and beyond to make sure the dogs I adopted from her were comfortable and safe in my home. They do in person home checks with the animal you were wishing to adopt, they make sure that you are a loving and responsible pet owner and all the animals are vet checked and vaccinated before you adopt them. Both of my babies were taken out of animal shelters in poor conditions and put into loving homes and given the best care they could possibly receive before being put up for adoption. Both of my babies are wonderful, they are my children and I could not recommend this rescue more to anybody who is looking to adopt a new family member. I cannot say enough about how wonderful Stephanie and all of her volunteers are I recommend them100%!!!

I have volunteered with On Way Way Home for many years. What I love most about this rescue is the total commitment that Stephanie has maintained throughout the years to saving the lives of animals in need. I have seen her bottle feed day old abandoned puppies; nurse starving dogs back to vibrant health; as well as caring for puppies fighting parvovirus- sometimes winning the battle!
Of course this is not accomplished by any single person. Stephanie has successfully built a community of fosters and volunteers; and has also partnered with community businesses to help pay for all of the mounting veterinary care bills.
I highly recommend On My Way Home and Stephanie as an amazing ethical and compassionate community non-profit animal rescue!

Our family has been acquainted with On My Way Home Rescue for nearly ten years. We have also had the honor to adopt two Dachshunds from them. Over the years we’ve witnessed countless animals helped and supported by this rescue (yes, they help other animals in need of needed!), and to say it’s a thankless job is an understatement. Tears have been shed watching miracles happen and seeing these animals get adopted and going to their forever homes. With all of the education this rescue has about dog breeds, and it’s thorough vetting process of potential adoptions, they ensure that these rescued dogs are going to good homes. I can not recommend a better rescue that is more ethical, thoughtful, and heartfelt as On May Way Home.

I adopted my sweet Sophie from On My Way Home back in 2010. She was 6 and had come into rescue because she snapped at her human sister (a toddler that pulled on her hair). Sophie was absolutely lovely and lived another 8 years without ever snapping at anyone!

My story doesn’t end there. Because of Sophie, I got involved in the rescue. When I first met Stephanie, it was like we had known each other for years. Her excitement, enthusiasm, caring and loving way with the animals made me want to get involved. I volunteered from 2010 to 2013 when I moved out of state. I was blessed to foster 6 dachshunds during that time and interact with so many of the other amazing animals the rescue brought in.

Stephanie has the biggest heart of anyone I know and I often shake my head in wonder of how she does it all! I have known her for 10 years now and have recommended many people to seek her out to adopt from her, foster from her or sadly to sign over their kids in cases where they can no longer care for them. She treats each pet as her own and vets all people involved with the animals.

This rescue is still so near and dear to my heart for bringing my kid into my life. And even though she’s been gone almost 2 years now, I STILL donate to this amazing organization BECAUSE I know Steph is running it. Steph & On My Way Home Rescue is the reason I love the dachshund breed so much.

I have been a foster mom for this rescue for over 10 years. This is not a typical rescue as it takes in a LOT of dogs with medical needs or dogs requiring hospice care. I love that the dogs who may have been euthanized due to health problems are given a second chance at life by On My Way Home Rescue. The dogs who enter the rescue are often not adopted out right away because the rescue founder prefers for each dog to have time to acclimate to new surroundings so that a proper behavior analysis can be done on each dog so it can be determined what type of forever family would suit the dog best. I have fostered, rehabilitated, and adopted many dogs over the years from OMWH and I know they all found a wonderful forever home. I have also made some incredible friends within the rescue who are also fosters!

We first met with On My Way Home Rescue when we adopted our sweet Mooch. That was in 2011 and since that time we have adopted two other dogs from them after foster-failing with them. They give great attention to making sure that the dogs are placed in the proper environment with home checks and making sure they are chipped and in good health. Our business (named after our Mooch), helps with support through fundraisers and donations. We would only do that with a group that we believe in. We love On My Way Home and what they do!

On My Way Home Rescue is one of the rescues that my organization serves in the Las Vegas community. Over the years of working with them, we have found them to provide the most quality care for animals, helping those in need recover from some of the worst imaginable health issues. They truly care for the animals and ensure that they are adopted to the best forever homes. The generosity and kindness that they have shown not only to the animals, but to those in the rescue world has been tremendous. They share their knowledge, support, resources, and help others to succeed. We enjoy working with this organization and are happy to give them our recommendation.

Years ago, we were put into contact with OMWHR to help save a dog at the shelter. Not only did they spring the pup from the shelter, but they assisted with vetting potential adoptees and helping get the pup re-homed. We have volunteered, and done whatever we can to support this organization. The animals come first, and the years of experience and dedication are something we respect and support. We highly recommend On My Way Home Rescue!

5 years ago we got our precious boy from On My Way Home. Great organization. Helped us when we ran into a situation 3 years ago and couldn't keep our dogs. Watched both dogs, even though we only got one from them, for several months until we moved. No problems getting them back.
Thank you so much!!

Very caring rescue organization. Stephanie works so hard and put in a lot of time to rescue dogs. My husband and I fostered a senior dachsund w tumor and luckily found a forever home right away. Fostered 3 more mostly seniors and ended up adopting them. I highly recommend this rescue place and if anyone is able to donate please do, so On My Home Rescue can rescue more dogs :)

I lost both my parents and one of my dauchsunds within 10 months. Needless to say I was devastated. I wanted another dog in my life to help bring Joy in my life. We still had our little Apple Dapple but she was sad as well. So we looked on the internet for dauchsund rescues and found on my way home rescue. We fell in love with a little boy named Stanley. We got a hold of Steph and he became ours. He was my spirit animal and my best friend. My husband teased that I loved Stanlwy more then him. Then looking on Facebook one day we came across Beejay. Had to have him as well. Thanka on my way home rescue for giving me my 2 boys who I love more then anything.

I have volunteered and fostered for this rescue for several years, as well as adopting dogs from her. They are amazing to work with and try to always do what’s best for the dogs. They will accept older or medical dogs, even when they are harder to adopt out. Stephanie is amazing and I highly recommend her!

I've never met so many supportive people in an organization, from the foster dad to the head of the rescue who adopted my boy to me 3 years ago. They were super nice at the store when we met and they came over. Even helped me fix my gate so my boy would be safe!! Over the years, we've kept in touch and they have always been there with advice and support when we needed some guidance. My boy has been a challenge but he is my boy and I love him so much! I recommend this rescue very highly.

This is my favorite rescue in Las Vegas. Any dog that gets rescued by this organization, gets top notch care and placed in a well screened home . They never turn their back on a rescue. Once a dog is part of this rescue, they are considered family for life. They also step up and take on some of the most difficult cases and go above and beyond to help the dog thrive and live the life they deserve.

I can’t say enough good things about On My Way Home rescue. We have adopted 3 babies from there over the years. Stephanie is wonderful and very thorough when placing any animal with a family. When I lost my husband and had to make hard quick decisions, Stephanie was there for me. When I couldn’t keep both my babies (a completely heartbreaking decision) Stephanie helped me through it and found him a new home after fully vetting them. I love the way they take care of all their animals and I am proud to have adopted from there. Even after adoption OMWH always checks on and cares for their alumni.

On My Home Rescue are dog thieves running a puppy mill under the guise of a do-good non-profit. Approx 7 years ago we purchased a chiwuawa from this non-profit for over $300. Recently we asked them if they could watch our dogs for a few days while we looked for a new home. Now they refuse to give us back our dog.

My Dad stumbled upon this charity via Twitter about 3 months ago. We were originally going to adopt an older dachshund. Once we met with the rescue, we discovered their needs were greater. We have become volunteers and fosters to 3 dachshunds. They truly care about each and every dog that comes through the rescue, and any dog for that matter. They go above and beyond to care for the dogs, regardless of the condition they arrive at the rescue. Sick, injured, or a dog that needs a little love and reassuring, no dog is turned away. I'm so glad we found them and we're able to work with them.

I fostered an amazing pup, Yoda, through this rescue group. This is a relatively small but VERY supportive, closely knit group of dedicated, ambitious, productive and compassionate rescuers. They are so well organized and consistently on top of their game. Never does a phone call go unreturned. They picked up my foster pup and took him to adoption events when I wasn't able to. They set him up for BEAUTIFUL professional pet portraits. They tended to any concerns or needs that the pup had AS WELL AS myself... I couldn't be in greater company. They have monthly events at Lake Las Vegas called Bottles for Barks that are fun, interactive, well-networked, beautiful and successful. I truly can't say enough about this rescue group. Steph is especially wonderful, tirelessly devoted and active with genuine care and concern.
