The 2016 event featured 1,800 athletes representing all 50 states (with a max of 52 athletes making the olympic team), 750 coaches, and 600 support staff. The event also featured 300 credentialed media and over 800 plus volunteers. The joint venture (made up of osc and usa swimming) sold over 200,000 tickets, equaling approximately 14,000 spectators per night. There were also 23,000 hotel room nights booked in the city of omaha. All 8 evening sessions aired live on nbc; with preliminary coverage on nbcsn (a total of 16 hours combined). Over 100,000 people visited the aqua zone, the interactive fan fest free to the public. The economic impact of the trials to omaha was $74 million.

This is a made for tv event that aired nine, two hour spots on nbcsn and webcast throughout the world. The event was comprised of four countries - united states, china, japan, and scotland - with men's, women's, and mixed doubles teams (totaling 40 athletes).
