Mission: OHALC was founded in 1987 by local citizens who recognized the excessive levels of illiteracy, unemployability, and lack of necessary educational and social skills for employment in this Appalachian area. We provide a center for educational and personal development that has a reputation for high quality and success. OHALC''s mission is to empower people in our community to realize self-sufficiency
Programs: Olive Hill Adult Learning Center serves an average of 1221 adults per year, providing classes for adults 16 years and older so clients can gain basic literacy and math skills; earn a GED; create job resumes, complete job applications-- and apply for jobs via the internet as well as in person; become computer literate to gain and/or advance in employment. Industrial jobs in our area require successful completion of academic testing, so they upgrade skills with us to become eligible for employment. Adults who want to enter vocational training and college upgrade skills in order to pass the ACT test. We also offer family literacy classes for parents; after school tutoring for children to be successful in school; and music and art to develop self-esteem and creativity.
