Opportunity Inc. is dedicated to serving those in need in our area. Those in the community feel comfortable referring anyone to the organization for a variety of needs and they work hard to ensure the needs are met. They work closely with all the other agencies and churches in the community to coordinate services and provide resources to both clients and partners.
I am very thankful for this organization, where we can donate to help People who are down on their luck..I know how hard they work to give these people a hand-up to get on their feet...Anyone of us could be in the same place , I have visit this organization and found how hard they work& how pleasant they are..
in 2010 i was a young single mother at my wits end.I applied for assistance and was working really hard to get it.I was about to be homeless when one day at Jobs Plus i met with a lady named dianne from this organization. From that day on i had hope.I knew i was not alone,I no longer felt ashamed for asking for help.I am proud to say this organization helped me with deposit on a home and water and i completed my G.E.D.I will tell you this though for Christmas she helped me make my children smile and that was a gift from God.I know have a job and work and still live in the home i was abe to get and I look back at my lowest time and know I was given an oppertunity by God to meet wonderful people. I saw how much these homeless and giving organizations mean to our community.Without these organizations some of us would never have the chance to rise to our potentials.I am where I am at with the help of the homeless and Oppertunity Inc. Thank You to all the wonderful people that work with these organizations to make our communities better.
This is a wonderful organization, made up of caring people from a variety of disciplines and specialties. There are varied views and perspectives all working toward a common goal of reducing homelessness one person or family at a time. The stories of the many successes are wonderful but the overwhelming need is what drives this group to give and work sacrificially to impact people's lives. I am thankful that we have such a group in our community and encourage the reader to get involved, however you can. Make a difference!
I joined the Okaloosa/Walton Continuum of Care for the Homeless over 2 years ago as a result of my desire to implement a soup kitchen in our church. Because of their tremendous support and guidance our church, Christ the King Episcopal Church in Santa Rosa Beach, FL, is now up and running at full speed with the lastest number of meals served being 108. I have been so impressed by the leadership and organizations included in the Continuum. So much so that I agreed to join the board over one year ago and thus have become more and more involved in their successful efforts to aid families and veterans that have been sorely impacted by our declining economy. It is an organization that helps those in trouble, but more importantly helps them to become self-sufficient and productive members of society. I think the single most important accomplishment is the establishment of a 10 unit transitional housing complex for struggling families with children. The success rate has been phenomenal and the many families that have benefitted from this endeavor are forever grateful. I am proud to be a part of such a fabulous organization. Sincerely, Ann Wallace
As a board member and local business owner, I have seen first hand the impact that Opportunity Inc. is having on Okaloosa/Walton County in helping our community get and keep themselves on their feet. There are stories each and every day that I see that inspire me to keep opening my eyes to all of the opportunites we all have to give back to our communities.
As a social worker in the community, Opportunity Inc. has been a resource for homeless families and those individiduals and families at risk of being homeless. Opportunity Inc. goes above and beyond to help needy families in the community as well as other non-profits.
I have been a volunteer with the Okaloosa/Walton Counties Continuum of Care for a couple of years. I have watched it grow into a strong force in our community helping the homeless and those on the verge of becoming homeless. With a very small paid staff, they have opened a shelter for women and families, supported the churches opening as cold night shelters for the homeless, magaged the Homeless Prevention/Rapid Rehousing program, and the current program for assisting homeless women veterans with housing and employment. They are always on the front lines of making the public aware of the plight of those in need, especially children. It's an amazing group and I'm grateful to be a small part.
Opportunity, Inc. is an exceptional program. The social workers and members of this organization truly care about the people they are helping. They have made it a personal goal to help get people back on their feet and into their own home. I know several of the social workers personally, and they continually impress me with their empathy and passion to create a better world. Long days and nights are spent negotiating with landlords, and employers in the hopes of getting homeless families into a home. This program empowers the homeless to lead better lives by giving them hope that they will have a place to sleep and live.
As an elected official, I hold a seat on the Board of Directors. I've been aware of the Continuum of Care almost since its inception and have been amazed at the level of engagement the organization has had. In a county with multiple service providers, duplication of effort, and struggles to gain support and awareness the Continuum organization has made a tremendous difference. Service providers meet monthly to strategically plan, share information, discuss and pursue grants, plan fundraising activities, and efficiently meet the needs of homeless in our communities. Without the Continuum, there would be large chasms, not merely gaps in the services provided for the homeless population. Our commitment to meeting the needs is stronger and more focused as a result.
I have been struck by the depth and breath of activities that Opportunity, Inc have done to help the community- including helping children and young families get off the street and directed towards self sustaining employment and housing. They assist and coordinate with multiple other charitable organizations in the county including transition housing for the homeless and/or children leaving foster homes. Opportunity, Inc helped the local board of health find funding for health care for the homeless.
The residents that graduate from Opportunity place leave with more than just a job and a direction. They leave with a sense of pride.
Having been involved with many organizations on a volunteer basis, I choose to get involved with Okaloosa Walton Continuum of Care because I see results, lives changed, families healed and a community that supports this works with time and precious little money.
Opportunity, Inc. provides information on homeless activities in Okaloosa and Walton counties, disseminates grant invitations to its provider members available only through the Continuum, provides the public and members with listing of service and resource material for the homeless and other in need. It is heavily involved in helping the homeless veterans and participates in the veterans standdown offering medical services including wound care and flu shots. We maintain a comprehensive web site for the benefit of the provider members, donor members and the public. www.okaloosawaltonhomeless.org.
