Mission: Oil Change International is a research, communication and advocacy organization focused on exposing the true costs of fossil fuels and facilitating the coming transition to clean energy.
Results: Since our founding in 2005, Oil Change International has established itself as a leader in policy, research, and activist efforts supporting a clean energy future. Oil Change coordinated policy advocacy efforts leading up to the Obama Administration's call for fossil fuel subsidy reform in the Group of 20 nations, resulting in the pledge by G20 countries to phase out inefficient fossil fuel subsidies. With hard-hitting analysis, Oil Change exposed the fact that the oil from the proposed Keystone XL tar sands pipeline was destined for export, and not for U.S. consumption as proponents claimed. Via our DirtyEnergyMoney.com database, Oil Change has led efforts to expose the connection between campaign contributions from the fossil fuel industry to U.S. politicians and, in turn the money the industry receives from the government via fossil fuel subsidies.
Programs: Our Separate Oil and State campaign exposes money going into government from the fossil fuel industry and out of government in the form of fossil fuel subsidies in an effort to end the cycle of support for fossil fuels. Our Extreme Fossil Fuels campaign tracks fossil fuel industry developments in order to end the rapid expansion to more extreme sources of oil, gas and coal, with a focus on hydraulic fracturing and tar sands. Our International Energy Finance campaign advocates globally for a shift away from fossil fuel subsidies towards financing for clean energy and promoting sustainable energy access.
