My time as a board member with Ohio Animal Advocates (OAA) has been one of the most rewarding and impactful chapters of my professional and personal life. OAA's unwavering commitment to making Ohio a place where all animals are protected from cruelty, abuse, and neglect is truly inspiring. The organization works tirelessly to improve the lives of animals across Ohio through education, advocacy, and collaboration, and it has been an honor to contribute to such a compassionate and forward-thinking nonprofit.
From the moment I got involved with OAA, I was impressed by the board's professionalism, strategic vision, and passion for animal protection. The organization takes a holistic and proactive approach—whether it’s advocating for stronger animal protection laws, providing humane education and raising public awareness about important issues, or partnering with other agencies to amplify its impact. Being a part of this mission has deepened my understanding of animal advocacy and given me the opportunity to help drive meaningful change across the state.

Mission: Our mission is to make Ohio a place where all animals are protected from cruelty, abuse, and neglect.
Results: 2024 Success Stories: OAA successfully hosted our annual Tristate Community Cat Summit in partnership with Together Initiative and Give Them Ten. This virtual summit brought together more than 350 animal advocates from Ohio, Indiana, Kentucky, and other parts of the United States, Canada, and Mexico. A huge thank you to our keynote speaker, Bryan Kortis, from Neighborhood Cats. Thank you to the Kenneth Scott Charitable Trust and the Joanie Bernard Foundation for their generous support! Check out our new website for more information on community cats and our statewide directory of low-cost spay/neuter providers. OAA has reorganized our statewide directory to suit our community's needs better. We have compiled directories of low-cost spay/neuter and TNR providers, pet food pantries, safe havens for people and pets escaping domestic violence, where to report animal cruelty, and our NEW list of veterinarian providers. Access the new and improved statewide directory on our website. In addition, OAA continued to educate professionals on the link between animal and human violence across the state of Ohio. In 2021, OAA passed House Bill 33, which requires social service counselors and veterinary professionals to report suspected animal abuse and neglect to humane enforcement. It also requires law enforcement, dog wardens, and animal care officers to report suspected child abuse. Over the last two years, OAA and AWI have trained Ohio Law Enforcement, in partnership with the Ohio Peace Officers Training Academy, on the link between animal and human violence, and will continue to over the next year.
