Causes: Arts & Culture
Mission: The purpose of the oaac is to be an artistic, educational and civic not for profit organization for members and support members of the oakland avenue artists coalition (oaac). The oakland avenue artists coalition seeks to create a platform for detroit's multi-generational, creative community in artistic work. Oaac will also engage and encourage neighborhood youth in positive self-expression. Oaac can engage in all other programs not inconsistent with such charitable activities as set down in section 501(c)(3) of the internal revenue code.
Programs: The north end urban expressions art festival: the healing 2014. Partnered with north end christian cdc, know allegiance nation, red door digital, modcar and others to pick where the first festival left providing a series of art education and creation workshops (mural design, arts & crafts, future mothership design, gardening, and pallet re-use), performance opportunities, and community conversations in a public space that lacked engagement. -5 rain barrel murals were painted. -around 500 people attended the event. -about 100 youth were reached and participated via workshops, activities and performances. -26 performing artists/groups performed -6 workshops were held
we created murals on rain barrels. Through the art and healing festival but also through a commission from the sierra club. 3 additional murals were created and 3 additional art stipends were created for community artists.
