Causes: Education, Special Education
Mission: The mission of Oakes Children's Center is to provide educational and therapeutic services to children with mental health challenges, emotional disturbance and/or developmental delays. We provide enriched emotional, psychological, and educational support to these children and their families. We help children to develop the skills and resiliency necessary to continue learning and to fully realize their potential.
Results: Since 1963, Oakes Children's Center has served hundreds of children and at-risk youth, particularly from underserved communities, through mental health therapy and support.

Geographic areas served: schools throughout San Francisco and at our Center
Programs: mental health support to enable children to succeed in school and in life. Oakes' mental health services include individual and group therapy through our Outpatient and school-based Partnership Programs, family therapy and support, crisis intervention, and psychological assessment. Our Outpatient Program serves developmentally delayed and emotionally disturbed children and adolescents whose special needs cannot be met elsewhere. Therapists also work with students individually in schools and at our Center and in socialization groups focused on peer relations, appropriate behaviors, and developing interests at our Center. Oakes also provide psychological assessment services. We provide family and parent support for all clients through our Caregiver Support Program. Our Partnership program works with children and youth in over 60 public schools throughout San Francisco, supporting students in SOAR classrooms, their families, and their teachers. Oakes Clinical Training Program trains tomorrow's mental health professionals to best meet the needs of developmentally delayed and emotionally disturbed children and their families.
